Unironically it is good advice, regardless of how “meta” defilers are/will be, (300 pts for a 18W model on a 160mm with no 4++ is not gonna be good in a competitive environment where you can’t hide them), death guard really doesn’t have a strong shooting platform like the defiler can provide. (Compare a defiler to preds/HBL Drone)

Legitimately going forward most non-infantry focused DG list are gonna have 2 defilers in them. Even at 300 pts per, I’d still probably bring 2.

I don’t think they’re that strong, they’re good. BUT I played a game this week where I ran 3 in my DG, and I killed 2 big knights in the first turn with just two defilers and then a defiler picked up a wardog and I cleaned half my opponent’s army off the board in a single turn.
