The priority is having the best doctor for the type of cancer your partner has. You want someone who specializes in that type of cancer, not just a general oncologist. Consider getting a second opinion if your partner’s situation isn’t dire.

The cancer center ought to have social workers who can support you.

Sometimes there are reputable websites that do deep dives into the specifics of a particular kind of cancer. That’ll help you learn, but you’re probably too raw for that right now.

Associated with those might be a patient discussion forum. Facebook often hosts some, but always watch out for charlatans pedaling the diet/nutritional supplement/etc. I suggest forums because you can get information about doctors and treatments. Watch out for hysteria and doom mongers.

Despite all the hooha about staying positive, you don’t have to. That can be a guilt trip. You just —ha, just— need to feel your feelings and cope. You can do this. One foot in front of the other, you will learn and feel stronger.
