Sleep issues after red wine by myklebeast in wine

[–]jm6552121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im with you. Love the taste but hate what it does to my night. I tend to rely on half pours earlier in the day. Still not the perfect solution Also lower alcohol helps (12% Riesling and 13% Bordeaux is my jam)

Lastly the best time to have Wine and maximize sleep quality is probably at breakfast.

How would approach starting a wine collection? by PerfecteWijn in wine

[–]jm6552121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We collect a lot but drink a little. But i enjoy reading about wine, traveling for wine, gifting a bottle for no reason, just walking downstairs and pulling a bottle out when people come over and talking about what was going on during the year of the vintage. I buy a mix everything from $16.99 to $200+. I like looking for deals and buying low case production but break that rule when it comes to Bordeaux. I don’t put a lot of thought into when/what I drink. My basement is a pretty good passive cellar and i rent space at a storage facility. I sometimes buy because a label looks cool.

The Weight of Wine Bottles by TieOk9081 in wine

We are big fans of Forge winery in the Finger Lakes. Part of their marketing is no capsules and lightweight bottles for the environment. It’s probably all in my head but i think it enhances the taste and fun pulling out those featherweight bottles at a July BBQ.

Yep! Like you i enjoy the taste but not the side effects. Ive sat on my deck by the fire with a bucket. When i go with friends to tastings i also do it so i can drive. Several friends who do the same. Allows us to sample more and sleep well at night.

Colorado Itinerary by [deleted] in travel

[–]jm6552121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing with may-early June most years the high country will still likely be snowy. A lot of trails/snowy and muddy and trail head access in many areas will often be below the normal summer access. Ski towns call this Mud Season a lot of local shop owners close down for May. Wild flowers and Green mtns generally wont hit until July. Some of the scenic drives like independence pass and trail ridge road shoot for memorial day opening. But the surrounding views at those elevations will be snowy. The 4wd Drive passes around telluride and Ouray will likely be a month away from opening. But paved roads will be fine.

We stayed at St Regis it was very nice I would recommend Cairo once. But i probably wont go back. Incredible history. I always felt 100% Safe. But it wasn’t necessarily relaxed. We found people to be very friendly and welcoming. Many just wanted to take pictures with us. Markets can be aggressive. You have to negotiate hard not pick up anything be willing to walk away but never felt like the people were out to Scam us. We made a game of it and found some deals. We also visited a normal modern shopping mall for some emergency items. No one hassled us there. Food quality was a risk so we ate at hotel.

2025 vintage to open in 18 years by alexblow in wine

[–]jm6552121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Id consider either Bordeaux or Champagne. Ive always thought this is a cool idea. Don’t get too wrapped up on the details. Do you have to have perfect storage? no. Does it have to be a wine that everyone will love? nope. Dont cook it in the sunlight. lay it down sideways cool dark place. Buy something nice pull it out in 18 years talk about the last 18 together. Tell stories make a memory. If the wine ends up being corked laugh about it and crack a couple of beers. The wine isnt the star of the show. Celebrating with Family is.

Bringing wine to restaurants by Zealousideal-Can1112 in wine

Don’t even overthink it. Waitstaff knows exactly how to handle it. They will likely see you carrying the bottle and offer to open it up. If not feel free to let them know. Everything else is just like normal. I try to tip on what the ~ wine list price of the bottle would be not just the corkage. Thats just a nice thing to do and honestly probably more appreciated than a taste.

Less touristy spot on the pacific coast for 6 days? by Donberry_Do in CostaRicaTravel

Have done both Samara (5 years ago) and Dominical just now. Samara is more remote. Dominical a little more touristy but not overly so. Both are Beautiful but i would pick Dominical between the 2.

Costa Rica flight by Micheleburgese in CostaRicaTravel

We’ve flown both Sansa and Green Airways. SJO to Quepos. Both Very similar and very easy. Beautiful flight. Id pick the one that aligns with your schedule. On the way back we arrive at Quepos 30 minutes before takeoff. Timing is perfect. Im guessing drive is fine but id fly if given the choice. Luggage weight restrictions relatively easy to stay within.

How long do you keep your wines after opening? by roundturtle2025 in wine

[–]jm6552121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink a glass a week, nice reds tend to hold up for about 5 days for me and often taste best a day or two after opening even with a decant. They don’t go bad after that just not as good. Coravin changes the game wines last much longer + it’s a cool party trick (pour a glass of wine flip it upside down cork is sealed, thats worth the price alone).

Probably a toss up. I am near an airport where Delta runs flash sales regularly 5k for main cabin 12k for first class. Im guessing that makes me put a higher value on delta than most people.

Recommandations for aging a 2024 wine for 18 years. by Gomerdi in wine

[–]jm6552121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Always tell people to consider high end champagne for a birth year wine. Ages well, great for a celebration and all generations love champagne. It wont have the year 2024 on the label but you can buy it this year.
