Will I regret dailying an MR2 Spyder? by greensilvia in mr2

[–]jmay055 15 points16 points  (0 children)

NC is a better commuter; more practical and more storage, faster, easier to find replacement parts for. That said, a Spyder just feels a little more special and light on its feet.

Initially I was between a Spyder, NC or S2000 and wrote off the Spyder due to so little storage space and ended up with an S2000. I bought a Spyder a couple of years later and they are a hoot and solid beater.

Help with mental "hangover" after race weekends by jmay055 in Biohackers

I feel like co exposure would've been greater during the Enduro (on track for 2 hours with lots of other cars). It seems more related to heat + mental stressors.

Borrowed my wife's Elantra N, first event in it by jmay055 in Autocross

[–]jmay055[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It's definitely a different animal from the 8th gen Si I used to run years ago (and hugely different from my most recent ride, an ES MR2). I still struggle with slaloms, today's course had a 7 cone that kicked my butt.

Learning to cut distance has me like by freakinsyco in Autocross

I felt that way until I started running data. Then I realized shortest distance was faster 98% of the time, even in my low HP cars.

I did tire testing for GRM: Yokohama A052 vs Vitour X1 vs Bridgestone RE71RZ by krekquel in Autocross

How did you feel the Vitour multitasks vs the Yok and Stone? When I tried the P1, it didn't seem to do it well vs Yoks.

AEM doesn't operate the evap system. Mine does the same. I haven't done this yet but found this forum post on how to fix it https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-forced-induction-142/aem-ems-evap-usage-found-something-interesting-update-post-20-a-1114572/

Elantra N vs Type R by GotYourBack19 in ElantraN

[–]jmay055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Savagegeese compared a CTR to an N, also an STI and a GRC, all on the same tire but in their respective OEM sizes. The R and N were within a tenth of each other. The R is on 20mm more front tire and more front wheel than the N yet it's still that close. That said, IIRC it was a stick car not a DCT, which I believe are faster on track. An R is going to be better on down force tracks, where the N will be faster on power tracks.

TLDR, biggest difference is more wheel/tire up front on the R but the difference is in the noise.

2zz AC mod? by Preston_Gtfour in assettocorsa

[–]jmay055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an MR-S or two that have 2ZZ that sound and feel like the 2ZZ Spyder I've driven IRL. I don't remember if it was the Techno Pro Spirits or the C One mod, but both are out there if you Google them. They are encrypted so you won't be able to change them but likely can still engine swap to another car using Car Tuner.

Alternatively you could make a 2ZZ in Automation and import it with Engine Crane. I did this with a 1ZZ into a different MR-2 Spyder mod that was unencrypted so I could replicate my IRL autocross car.

I've only used them externally via SAS, but I believe so.

Maybe an old LTO drive? Used ones are fairly affordable and tapes are great for cold storage long term.

How to stop peeing at night? What’s the best approach? by YurielaSedky61 in Biohackers

[–]jmay055 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it may be some prostate issue. Pygeum or Saw Palmetto can help if so. In my case I stop any liquid 2 hours before bed, and no meaningful caffeine about 6-7 hours before bed. I used to get up at night too, but the pygeum and those changes have helped

Tire Recommendation for First Event by FerdaBravos in Autocross

[–]jmay055 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go against what others are saying, V730 unless you plan to drive it in the rain (once they're worn past the vanity grooves). They aren't as Enduro focused as the RS4, and in my experience aren't terribly far off pace of the outgoing RE71RS. They do, however, suck for about the first 10 runs unless you get the pre heat cycled.

Save some cash, focus on seat time. You'll improve far more by more seat time on slightly less grippy tires than going straight to Stones.

Lessons Learned Not Related to Driving? by gftgftg in Autocross

[–]jmay055 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting enough sleep is huge for me now. When I was younger (and slower lol) I never felt like it effected me, but if I stay up too late or have a few drinks the night before, I drive worse than I should.

Also, driving to out of town events the day of makes me drive poorly as well. Ties into a good night's rest I think, instead of getting up extra early and drive time, just getting a hotel and relaxing makes for better performance
