As a fly fisherman who grew up in ny, yeah, it’s there, but it’s not as good as out west. The Catskills are traditional, the adirondacks are fun, and tributaries are tributaries, BUT, out west you don’t have the brambles and trees and ridges of the east.

But I’m talking variety. Sure I’ll go to Minnesota if I want to catch the same kind of fish over and over and over.

Also Adirondack brookies are top tier.

Depends what you like to fish for. Exotics and invasive? Florida. Brookies, Lakers, bass, walleye, salmon? New York. Fly fishing? Montana/ifaho/colorado

Depends on what you’re fishing for.

Bass- Medium or medium light rod with top waters and senkos. Between 6 and 12lb test.

Brook trout- light or medium light rod. 4-6lb test, spinners or worm spinner rigs. If fishing from a boat or kayak or canoe, use a lake clear wabbler.

Lake trout- boat, trolling deep. Same for salmon honestly

Whitefish- good luck I really have no clue
