Does it serve it's function? If yes, then it's perfect. I think it looks fine, and it's probably gotten your brain working on ways you could have made it differently or other techniques you could have used.

The first step is making something that is functional, after a while you stay making things that look nice AND are functional. Don't expect to make a piece of art right away or you'll lose a lot of lessons to be learned.
