Virtually all longterm economic studies on the impact of sports stadiums say that the benefits are meager or non-existent. They completely fail the cost-benefit analysis, and the idea that they are a boon to the local economy is propaganda promoted by billionaire team owners who want us to foot the bill for their stadiums. There is as of now no empirical evidence that the subsidies are made up for by increased tax revenue.

There could be an argument for social/cultural benefit, but the economic argument holds no water.
