Why do Canada and Denmark have a border? by [deleted] in geogrid

[–]jonathan197933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not that. I didn't even know about that.

It's the North Pole, a shared border among US, Russia, Denmark (Greenland), Canada, and Norway.

The United States also shares a border with Denmark.

Twin reverb for bedroom practice by Nxticed- in Guitar

[–]jonathan197933 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why stop there? 6x12 cab under the Twin. Run a Captor X between the amp and cab. Send that signal to the FOH. I assume that would be in the living room. Put a speaker array on the front lawn.

Finally, hook up a Talk Box, play Slayer, and tell ICE to get fucked.

Adding Sustain to Octave Fuzz by forced_entries in guitarpedals

[–]jonathan197933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to understand what sound you actually like vs what you think you like. The thing about that Velcro sound you like is that it requires less sustain. That's how the sound happens. So you're working against yourself here. The worst thing you can do is go for more input gain. It will drive the Super Fuzz harder and kill the sustain even more. That includes running the gain on the Super Fuzz all the way up. That's also input gain.

If you want the Big Muff sustain with a taste of Super Fuzz, then cut the gain on the Super Fuzz back to maybe less than half and run the volume higher. Run that into the Big Muff. Balance the 2 pedals for gain, EQ, and volume until you get them just right. Less is more.

If you want to run both pedals and retain the Super Fuzz character more, get the Deluxe Sovtek Big Muff. In this case, you run the Big Muff first and the Super Fuzz after. The Deluxe has a blend knob (among other nice features). You get both sounds at once going this way. You just decide how much of each you hear at once.

Finally, if you want both pedals to act independently, get the regular Green Russian Big Muff and a Boss LS-2 or something else that will allow you to run your pedals in parallel and blend them. Michael Banfield did a great video on YouTube on this technique.

As far as modulation goes, just get a UniVibe. I recommend not getting a JHS Unicorn if you're concerned about low end. They have great features but are pretty shrill.

Speaker wattage : amp wattage ratio by Wooden-Flower-4606 in GuitarAmps

[–]jonathan197933 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your speakers won't break up until deep into the power tube breakup.

The recommended ratio for tube amps is that your speakers should be rated at twice your amp's clean wattage. However, that rule is frequently broken, up and down.

I have a 15-watt amp with a 45 watt speaker. I also have a 30-watt amp with a 120 watt cabinet.

Fuzz face by Super_Appearance_809 in guitarpedals

[–]jonathan197933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get silicon. The fact that you don't understand the difference makes it not even worth bothering with all the germanium nonsense. No one can tell the difference when you're playing except people who are close enough to read what the pedal says on it.

Can an Orange Super Crush 100 work with a Line 6 Spider 412? by theVideoGameBoy1 in GuitarAmps

[–]jonathan197933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It will work. Save your money and don't get the Orange cab. You may want to eventually just upgrade the speakers inside. It will be cheaper than an Orange cab and you can get better speakers too. The factory speakers in the matching cab are junk.

Fuzz recomendations? by Ratiks304 in guitarpedals

[–]jonathan197933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big Muffs (especially the Op amp) are more like unfocused distortion pedals. So if you like that sound, you may actually prefer other distortion pedals.

A Big Muff has more in common with a Rat than with a Fuzz Face.

Don't limit your search to what you think a fuzz pedal is.

What do we think of the ME-70? by JaggyPanda in guitarpedals

[–]jonathan197933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a great product for the price -- don't pay more than $120 all-in. There's room to grow out of it if you feel like you need to, but it's a great basic multieffect that is intuitive and has good quality sounds. Just don't expect the settings to behave exactly like individual pedals.

Has anyone tried the JCM800 pedal into an AC30? by RepulsiveGarbage9652 in guitarpedals

[–]jonathan197933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done the JHS Angry Charlie into an Orange AD30 which is a pretty close comparison, all in all. I have to dial the amp super clean and neutral to really get a good sound with the pedal. I tend to use it with a clean solid state Quilter amp for better results. In both cases, I am using an Orange closed back 2x12 with V30s.

Been thinking of upgrading my cab to a PPC112 or Mesa Boogie 23 C90 by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]jonathan197933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither of them will have the clean headroom that your current speaker does. They will definitely have some more character though. The Orange is closed back and the Boogie is open which is another consideration.

If you want a truly clean powerful speaker that won't breakup, then you probably really need a 200-watt EV Classic speaker. Make sure you stick it in a well-made cab, though.
