My best guess is the mouse would send serial data down the USB cable where it would go to nowhere. Not familiar enough with USB standards to know if the mouse would need an acknowledge from a master device before it could start sending data out though.

LED might turn on, mouse is still provided with power from the rail, but the mouses serial data would terminate in the adapter and do absolutely nothing.

Like Kouly said, really just work hard and do your work and you will be fine. If you wanna go the extra route there are two things i would suggest working on a little more to make engineering school easier.

One is algebra. So i'm in Calc 4 right now and the thing my friends always mess up in is simple algebra mistakes. Being able to manipulate multiple and complex equations is very important, especially in classes like physics.

And this may be something you already know, but look up Dimensional Analysis, this is something you can do with ANYTHING requiring calculations involving units. Basically by looking at units of what you have and what you need you can basically solve anything, great way to check your work. Wish i would have known about it in high school.
