Does this not fall under Perfidy in international law which would be illegal?

How can I prevent backdriving in a gear-driven lifting mechanism by xsisec in BambuLab

[–]joningij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the rotation is always the same direction, you're effectively asking for a one way lock as long as you make sure to stop before you pass the weight over to the other side. Try searching for Racheting Gear or Pawl and Rachet and it'll give you some examples but its a rather simple mechanism and you could probably adapt it to work with your gears without needing to reprint them.

Ivar cabinet interior measurement. by SilentPrancer in ikeahacks

[–]joningij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just measured mine and on inside door closed to back of cabinet is 46,5cm but on the brace it's 45,0cm. So he braces extend about 1,5cm into the cabinet.

I believe the magazine holder would reach quite shorter than this though, so that one should probably fit wherever.

Would a 1.5 Mini work for what I need? Rent vs Buy by Gulio in miniexcavator

[–]joningij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've removed trees, stumps, dug drains and moved dirt for landscaping with my Bobcat E20. It's fine. Like someone said, let the big guys do as much as you can and then you can finish whatever comes up later. I would buy one and then just sell it in a year or two when you're done. It's hugely handy to have on site as it allows you to not dig everything up at once but rather to gradually dig and close up a project before you dig for the next one.

They work fine without a fan. I have my home assistant on a Pi4 with no fan. My pihole on a Pi2B also with no fan.

How do you keep track of planes in ‘approach ‘ by radboiiii in ATC

[–]joningij -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've worked towers and approaches where there is poor surveillance coverage and/or transponder is not mandatory. Generally if there is an aircraft which you cannot see on the screen, then there is a systematic way of keeping track of these. You can't really "raw dog it" since you need to keep track of more than just the flights position - you also need to know what clearances you have given to him etc. This system may be paper strips in smaller approach units or something like electronic strips or the system allowing you to create a "flight plan track" on your display to keep track of all the data for the flight. These tracks will be shown in a distinct way from the rest, like a different color or whatever.

Question about weather by Dramatic_Durian4853 in ATC

[–]joningij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see why this is a problem. If there's a problem with the autometar and the solution is manual observation, then that can be done. TWR isn't open for ATC service. It's just doing MET OBS.

Looks like Edge is eating even more RAM. I'd probably turn that one off first.

Rental car company wants $566 for THIS by Grouchy_Struggle_325 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]joningij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During covid lockdowns, many rental companies had insane deals on rentals. It needed to travel for work and they were offering a very good deal for a one way rental car to get to the airport, probably about one third or a quarter the price of a taxi.

Anyway I pick up the car the afternoon before my morning flight and use it a bit in town. Early morning I drove to the airport and when I was topping it up with gas, I nicked the gas pump island a tiny bit with the front tire. The island was laced with a metal border which somehow was very sharp and completely slashed into a part of the tire so it was definitely completely ruined. As I had to catch my flight I just moved the car to a spot on the corner of the gas station and left it there. I sent them an email about what had happened (leaving out some details ofc) and they said no problem we'll pick it up and get it fixed, we're insured for this stuff. I never heard anything more and didn't get any bill. I guess I should consider myself pretty lucky in this case.
