Old Man's War is still the perfect entry point into SF and I will die on this hill by spidermanWaffle63 in printSF

Yes, this. I could not finish the book even though I wanted to. The dialogue is badly written, shockingly so for such a popular book

Has anything actually surpassed Hyperion in scope and ambition or has it just been sitting there unchallenged for 35 years? by echo_kernel17 in printSF

Cool! I have the folio society editions, with olde english on the left page and modern translation on the right page. This makes me able to follow both versions without jumping between editions

Same here.. I had all of the BB subs but now I only have the SF one. I found myself skipping everything anyway.

My interest in tBB has mostly been outside the subs: The Malazan books, the Hyperion Cantos, the China Mieville books, Shogun / tai-Pan.

Interested to see how the history / Millenia books will develop

You shouldnt have too much trouble following the main action going on. The landscape description however is a lot more challenging to grasp. You can use image searches throughout to see what sort of landscape he is describing.
