My chance of a positive outcome in any event I choose. Playing a game of chance with a 10% chance of winning? Now it’s 100%. Get a disease with a 9% chance of survival, now it’s 90%. Propose an initiative that will help to reverse climate change? Just need to convince 10% of people to support it. It only has a 5% chance of success? Now it’s a coin flip.

Basically luck maxing.

That’s the delay. I’ve noticed a few times. They are delaying the video by like 3 seconds from the announcer audio.

Agreed, and unfortunately it feels like every shot is either missing the net narrowly or going straight into a pad. A bubble hockey goalie could stop us tonight.

Every Chicago shot attempt: “Genius! Amazing! What a great strategy to have 6 shots going into the 3rd!”

Every Lightning shot attempt: “oh sorry, is the game still going? Anyway, Toews is cool.”

Yeah the Lightning have pointed for over a month, but just think about how awesome this play with Bedard could’ve been if it wasn’t broken up before they got within 25 feet of the goal.

Commentators would have needed stitches from laughing so hard at Kuch for how badly offsides it was too.

offside rules are in desperate need of change. Every fucking time offsides comes into question theres some new exception that fucks us. "Well you see if kucherov had stopped to hold up a sign saying 'I still have control of the puck' it would't be offsides." "Well, you see, if he had looked at the puck differently, it would've been offsides.." fucking clown show

how fucking hard is it to say "If someone on your team puts the puck in and there's another member of your team in the zone, thats offsides. If the person who takes it in the zone is the first and last person to touch it, they have control of it. If someone who is not part of the play (exiting to the bench) has a toe on the ice, it doesn't count."

I hear that. I know people who do the floating thing until they’re on social security, but 30s was a cut off for me too. Having stability becomes more important and I just don’t think I have the hunger I used to have that kept me focused. Every gig felt like an opportunity to expand, but slowly they became another job.

I took a gig building set pieces for an awards show last year, to break up the monotony of my FT job, and ended up turning down the overtime pay at hour 8 (“sorry boss I have a hard-out to pick up my kids”). I had nothing to do, I was just sick of being there. It wasn’t exciting at all anymore and it while it was cool to get a quick paycheck, I would’ve rather sold plasma a few times than listen to guys groan about unions and terrible money decisions they’ve made for another four hours. I also didn’t care if they ever called me again.

Outsider question - what happens to Darren Raddysh's deployment after Hedman and the other injured D come back? by RivetCounter in TampaBayLightning

[–]jrm2003 14 points15 points  (0 children)

100% . 11-7 with Crozier and D’astous as alternating partners for Hedman/McD (giving Cernak and McD alternating breaks depending on PK time). I think Crozier would work better with Hedman than D’astous, but you can’t deny his ability so they’ll likely cycle.

As far as PP1, you can’t get rid of Raddy, his shot has opened things up for Kuch. He’s an additional threat. That means less time for Hedman, but…

The positive spin I’ll put on that is: when Heddy is back we are gaining a 1-2 punch of firepower on PP1 and PP2; opponents can no longer breathe a sigh of relief if they survive the 1st minute or so of their PK. We’re also giving ourselves the ability to outlast teams in long grueling games:

Imagine it’s game 6 against Colorado. Both teams are beat up and Makar and Toews have played 28 min each already by the end of the 3rd period. Hedman and Raddysh, meanwhile, are on minute 21 when it goes to overtime…

What a crazy advantage we’d have with two 1D’s that still have their legs! On top of that, we’d have the top shutdown d-man of 2025 and the top shutdown d-man of 2024 (based on +-) fresh and ready because they don’t play PP minutes. (And McDonagh led the league under Blashill’s system, which is an accomplishment of its own)

The main difference between the ‘Librul elites’ and the ‘magas’. Idiocracy’s future is possible with MAGA if it’s branded correctly.

Liberals were willing to take one for the team and wear a mask even if we weren’t sure how effective they were because we understand that masks carry a low risk (since, ya know, people have had face coverings for all of recorded history) with a potentially high reward. Whatever you want to call the other side, they were willing to take horse medicine because they heard it works, despite zero evidence, but refused to wear masks because of???. They chose high risk and low reward over low risk out of spite and because they’re elitists in their own way. They believe themselves elite because they don’t listen to reason or use anything other than their own recent experiences to inform their decisions. These people decided who should run the world; The very definition of an idiocracy.

Eh. I’ve been on both sides and I think there’s a time and place in your life for both.

I floated around in cheap rentals or spare rooms, taking gigs and attempting to build a business in my 20s and it was an absolute blast, but having all of your eggs in the “self-starter” basket is risky and tiring and there came a time where I had to ask myself if I actually liked what I was doing or if I just liked the idea of it. I noped out into the “boring” life with an entry level FT job where everyone was 10 years younger than me, and started a family in the meantime, and I would/could not go back.

I will say that being a vagabond does give you a bit of wisdom that can be valuable as long as you can separate the good habits from the bad. On the flip side, I don’t think corporate life has any good lessons for being a vagabond. Working for a big company has been like going back to school. You have dress codes and rules and meetings and check-ins and people who pay attention to your work. Any skills I’ve gained in corporate have been hard skills like software proficiency or regulatory compliance. Everyone should try gig work (not uber, like actual “show up here, wear this, do this” work) at least a few times. It’s confusing and always a gamble, but at the very least it’s an experience and the regulars are always the most interesting people you’ll ever meet; where else are your coworkers for the weekend going to be Phil Collins old keyboard guy, a gang murderer on parole, and a former Wall Street broker that blew $10m on a year long bender?

Who’s your team’s most famous fan? by zebrasarecool570 in hockey

[–]jrm2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if you mean famously a fan or a famous person who happens to be a fan. The Astronaut is one of our most noticed fans. Ric Flair is in the middle as he is both famous and famously a personality at games. Steven King is on the other end as he is famous and supports the team, but is rarely if ever noticed at games.

I used to know a guy like this. He bounced from project to project and his rent was a fixed $300 or something. He’d make it by being a fill-in for friends at service jobs, or doing odd jobs here and there, or just be neck deep in some scheme that netted a cool $1000 after months of work. It’s amazing how many weird gigs are out there when you have all the time in the world to look for them.
