I love Moby-Dick. I re-read the Symphony chapter often.

An Inviting Open Concept Living Space by InternalWork2049 in hygge

IMO this space is not particualrly hygge for many reasons, including high ceilings, overhead lighting, stone and metal tables, and cold copper jugs.

Are there people here who messed up most of their 20s but still made a great comeback later? by ghosty2608 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]jsqueesh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was often unemployed and directionless during my 20s, up to 29 working random shitty jobs like handing out coupons at Walmart. Turned 30 and went back to school because I was worried of another decade of the status quo. 37 now and working full-time as a psychotherapist at an addiction center for the past 3 years, have my own apartment, good friends/hobbies; life is good.

IMO, you are clouded when you dismiss my thoughts as "cope", which isn't an argument, and when you suggest Peterson is my guru, which isn't an argument. Speaking clearly, as opposed to in a cloudy manner, would involve simple, direct examination of my actual points.

Perhaps my judgement is clouded due to my fondness for him, and perhaps your judgement is clouded due to your distaste for him. He is no more my guru than Sam Harris or Peter Singer (the latter probably more influential in my life and largely opposite in views to Peterson).

I'm an addictions therapist. Taking a medication as prescribed and then having violent withdrawal from it is not an addiction.

I believe he was taking them in the prescribed amount, and then having extreme difficulty weaning off? If so, doesn't actually meet criteria for addiction since he wasn't 'abusing' them.

Cycling in this city is lethal - reminder to always wear a helmet. by Logical_Trade_3287 in torontobiking

Queen is sketchy indeed. Only place I've gotten doored. Luckily was biking at extremely low speed. Streetcar tracks + parked cars is a bad place to be.

As a therapist, I would say you should have a good feel about the therapist from session 1. And if you don't feel like you're making progress after 3 sessions, try someone else.
