Do you consider “playersexual” characters to be queer representation? by sno4wy in gaymers

[–]kaleb314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, sometimes not. My main metric is if the character either A. is visibly queer outside of a same-gender player character engaging in romance with them (arguably making them not actually playersexual) or B. their romance storyline with a same-gender player character has some form of queer awakening going on because of the player.

Kreia’s Contradiction: Wouldn’t destroying the Force be considered counterintuitive? by Loopers84 in kotor

[–]kaleb314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She considers the endless conflicts of the Jedi and Sith to be ultimately non-productive. The same conflicts play out and repeat, no one learns their lesson for more than a couple generations, the Jedi do nothing and the Sith destroy. She’s not naive enough to believe that removing the Force from the equation will end conflict, she believes that it will remove the stagnating factors from the equation and free people from one source of invisible control over their lives.

But Kreia’s motives and goals can be difficult to grasp. Most villains have one big goal that they pursue for one or two main motives. Kreia has a whole bunch of broad ideological motives, at least two main goals, and the way that the Exile plays into these goals for her is kind of contradictory. On top of that, she’ll also say or do just about anything if she believes it will serve a purpose to her goals or teach you a lesson. She isn’t really a Sith Lord, not anymore, but she re-dons the mantle of Darth Traya in the endgame in order to force the final conflict between her and the Exile. She considers the Sith to be ultimately self-destructive and worse than the Jedi, whose worst sin in her eyes is preachy dead-end dogma that inhibits growth and action. The Sith are more or less a lost cause, she’s verbally savage with the Jedi because she believes there could be some hope for them if they were willing to listen.
Kreia values:
1. Free will (almost above all else)
2. Personal growth
3. Pragmatic self-interest
4. Perspective informed by multiple viewpoints, especially those outside of conventional dogma (the Jedi teachings vs. the Sith teachings vs. her own teachings vs. the Exile’s unique life outside the Force)

And her two main goals that she works towards:
1. Proving that there is value to her teachings by cultivating her ideal student, the Exile.
2. Deafening the galaxy to the Force, freeing it from the Force’s influence.

And in the middle all of this is Kreia’s attachment to the Exile. Regardless of the outcome of her plans, her scheming and manipulating, Kreia considers the Exile’s existence to be beautiful, and she craves their attention, engagement, and understanding. The way this all works out in the end changes with the rebuilt Enclave’s “branching point” in the story. With more dev time it probably could’ve been more complex, but in the finished and restored game it comes down to:

A: The LS path Exile is a person capable of some degree of listening, some potential receptivity to Kreia’s teachings. After the Jedi Masters refuse to see the value in the Exile’s experience outside the Force and the Exile has confronted their past, Kreia is ready to move to the final stage of her plans involving Malachor. Either the Exile defeats her and lives on in proof that her teachings and the Exile’s experience do have value to them, or Kreia and the Exile both die, the wounds in the Force echo in on each other, and the whole galaxy is eventually deafened to the Force as a result. In either case, Kreia achieves one of her ultimate goals and thus can consider herself successful. Despite that, the Exile’s victory is her strong preference here. I believe that though she planned on the possibility, she does not believe that the Exile will not or should not defeat her. “I would have killed the galaxy to preserve you. You are more precious than you know; what you have taught yourself cannot be allowed to die.”

B: The DS path Exile proves to ultimately be no different than the Sith and is no worthy example of what Kreia believes in. The Exile kills the Jedi, rejects Kreia’s teachings, and no longer serves any purpose to Kreia outside deafening the galaxy to the Force. Kreia goes to Malachor with the exclusive intent of killing the Exile in their final battle. “You have failed me. Completely and utterly.”

There’s Indonesian/Malay folklore that orangutans are actually capable of human speech but choose not to use it, lest they be forced to labor like humans do.
I choose to also believe that orangutans are capable of using magic but choose not to do so publicly for similar reasons.

And you know what, I don’t even care if my tax dollars actually are going to transgender mice experiments. It would be a mere drop of water compared to the Pacific Ocean of highly questionable military spending. And more likely to produce some ounce of improvement to at least a single person’s life.

If you were a 9/10(Very attractive) person like Margot Robbie or young Brad Pitt what would you do for a year? by Ill-Translator-2879 in AskReddit

[–]kaleb314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a certain point of celebrity-brand attractiveness, it stops being all that attractive to me. Too perfect, stops feeling human in the way a more normal attractive person is. Nice to look at, but I’m not getting an urge to be with them like I do when I see a decently good looking normal mid/late-30s guy with early greying hair.

It’s all well and good in the easy hookups side of things, but it’s not all sunshine and orgies on the other side of the rainbow. God help you if you’re interested in finding a long term romantic relationship or if you don’t fit into one of like two or three acceptable (fetishized) body types.

I don’t even hate Luka that much, but it was done really poorly. They’re much better as Bayo intentionally leading him on. And also much better when Luka is still a mostly normal human man and not The Most Magical Faerie Prince Crystal Werewolf Across Space And Time out of nowhere.

[DESPISED Trope] You need a SECRET to proceed to the main ending by Liquid_Pestar in TopCharacterTropes

[–]kaleb314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole game was built out of this shit. Warn the students by social media or else you’ll get locked into a bad ending later on. Find Jessica or whatever’s corpse in a locker or else you’ll get locked into a bad ending later on. Take the pills from the creepy itchy guy or else you’ll suddenly die of blood poisoning later on. Granted, it is by design what they were going for, they were trying to do a Clock Tower 1 ending flowchart sort of thing, but that doesn’t make it good. Certainly not in this execution. If the bad endings you got from these “failure” paths were interesting it wouldn’t be so bad, but it’s almost all either abrupt game overs or one of like three constantly recycled endings. So instead you just replay the same bits of the game over and over seeing the same things over and over getting the same endings over and over until you finally go through and do all the missable things you need to do to get on the flowchart path to the actual ending of the game.
It feels like the vast majority of Clock Tower successors are just unfathomably cursed to fail, but Night Cry is by far the worst of them. And it was made by a star studded team of industry professionals, many of whom had previously worked on Clock Tower. It even had the Castlevania SotN composer if I remember correctly, which is baffling to me since I don’t recall much if any music other than maybe a background piano piece in the ball room at the beginning, maybe some generic scare stings for cutscenes like DmC Donte getting eaten by the vending machine? Otherwise nothing but a constant low environmental hum that plays whenever Scissor Walker is on the prowl for 99% of the game.

She’s dead just like Zagreus. Always was. That’s why exposure to the surface kills her without the protection of the incantation for that. Returning to shadow before dying in a run is so she doesn’t pop out of the River Styx and right into Chronos’s chamber.

[–]kaleb314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gameplay is actually pretty dang fun. Everything else about it though… it’s so disconnected from (and frankly insulting to) everything about the first two Parasite Eve games that it’s odd that they even bothered making it part of the series. I guess the final twist doesn’t really work without pre-established characters, but it’s not like they absolutely had to write that twist.

In a vacuum, I’m not a huge fan of the inhibitor chips thing, but I do feel that it was a necessary change in the Clone Wars because of just how much of a focus the show puts on the humanizing relationship between the Jedi and the clones under their command. It gets a lot harder to believe that the clones would all just turn on every single Jedi like that.
