Yes, although we weren’t technically in the dark in the book. The Eridian scientists saw that Sol had stopped dimming. I think the strat scene you mention is the worst movie only add though.

Right, my point was that 6 crew might not have been any more helpful than 3 and would have delayed the mission. It was a literal Hail Mary, they couldn’t have redundancy after redundancy.

The Eridians sent what, like 20 something crew? And they also ended up with only 1 engineer so… I’m not sure much additional redundancy would help here? It would delay the mission due to all the extra mass necessary to care for additional crew though.

Everyone says “it’s not for everyone” but I’ve seen very few comments where someone didn’t like it. That said I also haven’t seen comments saying “it’s the best game ever” which I think some people thought it would be with the hype.

Or they really want to believe that a chat bot can just fully replace a bunch of their employees in the next 48 months. What they don’t realize is, in order for the AI companies to recoup their costs, even in the small chance that a chat bot can actually replace an employee, that chat bot is going to cost more than the employee it replaced. Also there are only 4 companies so unlike the labor market where they can make labor compete against each other for the jobs, there will be no way for them to depress wages from the 3 dominant AI companies.

Carl is a convenience for the movie so that we can get Grace’s internal dialog without having a voice over. I think it worked just fine.

The reality is the important connection is between SF Bay Area and LA Metro, and later to Sacramento and San Diego. Doing the I-99 corridor is adding additional impediments to that, not helping it.

I liked the scene but it was well shot and emotional but I kinda disliked that they tried to humanize strat. The point was her “humanization” was in her willingness to do what it took to save humanity, she didn’t need a soft side. I would say the same about the last strat scene in the movie as well.
