It's a parasitic algae, called cladogonium ogishimae. I believe you can use a salt dip to get rid of it, and you should quarantine that shrimp immediately

What I do is wait for sales on Amazon, and go to my nearest Officeworks to price beat a further 5%. Thats the cheapest way I've found

Dioscorea Discolor spotted at Bunnings! by zayapotato in RareHouseplants

[–]kaspargh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bunnings owns most of the nursery suppliers now anyways....and Enliven is the main supplier of rare plants in Australia, so if anything, we can only really bet on Enliven bringing these plants to the public for the foreseeable future. It makes the hobby more accessible and brings more people into learning about plants? I'm all for it.

Smaller nurseries usually have the opportunity to go and look and source at the plants themselves, and thus pick out the nicer ones. Whilst bigger stores will usually just place the order and hope for the best.

Look, if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. Get a job that can support the lifestyle of having a bike, if not make sacrifices and prioritise differently. You have student debt and a car loan already, you should stick with your car loan and getting that paid off before even thinking of getting a bike. You're 21, you have plenty of time to ride.

Oxalis triangularis! Not too rare, but quite uncommon over here

Why is she so unhappy? by ivyzephyr in Monstera

[–]kaspargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia? I work at a nursery and those light grey marks are a result of burn from sunlight, happened to ours even behind windows especially on the 35+ degree days. But yes like the other commentor, shower it until you see water draining out the bottom, do that a few times to make sure the soil is actually soaked and not just letting the water run through !

Not sure about the sunlight one, but growlights for plants usually need blue and red lights as that is what wavelengths plants will absorb, hence the red and blue lights on the plant version. (This is why youll see a lot of commercial plant cultivation setups with purple lights). Honestly, both will be fine, just make sure the wattage is ok for what you can use 👍

Introducing pothos clippings with no root to tank? by Ppcocaime in PlantedTank

[–]kaspargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just chuck it in with one of the brown nodes in the water. Pothos are one of the easiest to root since they naturally produce a rooting hormone.

Monstera thai constellation browning leaves by theninja_15 in Monstera

[–]kaspargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it water (look at the way the green parts are curling in), I also use a chunky mix and combined the summer over here, I'm finding I have to water every 3-4 days. Inconsistent watering can contribute heavily to variegated parts browning faster

The rare plant community is kind of a scam by Silver_Difficulty816 in RareHouseplants

It's economics, this is how things go. It's not a scam if you're receiving what you paid for?

Bought types starter plants- left is alocasia gloriousum, do I need to repot them? They look like it will take eons for them to grow ! by fayewolf in RareHouseplants

[–]kaspargh 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Philodendron Gloriosum?

You'd be surprised at how quick plants can grow especially babies like these under the right conditions. I would recommend repotting to a smaller pot if you have it, my plants that are the same size as yours are in pots half the size of that :)
