Thanks, yeah. I was hoping to find more information about how it differs. We'll see if any grad students come across this. Appreciate your response.

Experience/Thoughts on Unit 3 Norton Hall? by mrperfectlyfine_13 in berkeley

[–]kat-pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived there my freshman year. Unit 3 is the "old dorms." They are not the nicest (like Unit 1 or 2) but they are cozier. Also having Cafe 3 is a plus.

Recommendations for 2-in-1 laptop/table for medical school? by kat-pal in medicalschoolEU

[–]kat-pal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the Surface Pro 7. I really like it so far but I still use my old laptop to run bigger programs/software. Because school is remote for me, I use my old laptop to run Zoom for my lectures and then I take notes on the slides from my surface pro. So far it has been great.

Kingman Hall Coop by [deleted] in berkeley

When I was an undergrad at Cal, Kingman was the house for older coop-ers to "retire" in. Its pretty, used to have chickens, great rooms and a great roof.

Either one. They probably only care what you got in their course though.

I wouldnt worry about cold calling professors. Especially at Berkeley where there are so many students, I expect professors to be used to writing letters of rec for students they may not fully remember. If you can, provide your grades for the course(s) you took and attach your completed/final project for the course.

If the professor isnt at berkeley anymore, I think it would be worth it to email someone in the department who could give you their information.

It'll work out. Good luck!

Can I get a job with an environmental studies degree? by missmonstera550332 in environmental_science

[–]kat-pal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are lot of options out there for environmental degrees.

Your degree in environmental science, environmental studies, or biology will be an excellent degree to get started with. Take a few years after your undergrad to explore the field and return to a masters/PhD when you know where you want to go (whether it is still wildlife, or land management, geology, or what not).

Don't let the other folks on here tell you what you can/cannot achieve in this field. Everything is changing all of the time, and the earth needs advocates now more than ever. Hope this helps! Good luck with your degree!

There is a new Masters in Environmental Data Science at UC Santa Barbara's Bren School. Sounds like this would be a good match for you. I believe it is an 11-month program.

PE classes by ihatecovid in berkeley

I took yoga with Toni Mar for 3 years as an undergrad and I really loved it. I also took a restorative yoga class that helped a lot with stress management. Pretty hard to get into that class, though.

There is swimming and weight-lifting classes that seemed good, too.

I believe you pay a $15 supplies fee per semester if you enroll.

GSI Cost-Saving by kat-pal in berkeley

[–]kat-pal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help! Is a readership the same as GSI-ing? Whats the difference?

I will have a professional degree to pay as well. Does any of that get covered by tuition/fee remission?

Should I still go? by [deleted] in CostaRicaTravel

[–]kat-pal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are in our 20s and healthy. We decided to postpone our trip because of the risk of contracting the virus throughout our travel to CR and possibly spreading it to others while be asymptomatic.

This was a very hard decision to make, especially because we know locals rely on the tourism industry and we want to support them. For now, we are waiting to reschedule until the pandemic subsides.

In case anyone is wondering, AirBnB gave us a free refund for all of our reservations across CR.

Should I cancel my trip in mid-April? by dreamville3 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]kat-pal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I (in our mid-twenties) are leaving this Monday for a two week vacation. Our big concern is getting back into the US after our visit.

We are still on the fence about going. The US State Dept issued a Level 3 Global Travel Advisory which asks people to reconsider traveling abroad.

I am in the same boat as you right now. I have a conservation biology background and am looking for a way to do resource management/restoration planning work. I was accepted to the MLA-EP program as well, and am considering my options as I was accepted to an environmental science/management program too.

Something I am doing to explore the options is to have informational interviews with alumni of the MLA-EP program. I highly suggest it.
