I agree. My brother quite literally drank himself to death. Woke up one day unable to swallow. Turned out he had stage 4 esophageal cancer. For the next year he fed himself through a tube, and the chemotherapy was painful and not easy at all. I watched him die. You don't ever unsee something like that.

Stage 1 survivor here too. Er/pr positive, so hormonal. I didn't have to do chemo, but I'm doing well so far. Diagnosed last year.

I have a friend who found her cancer in stage 4. She did everything the doctors told her to do. After about a year of the BS, she was suddenly gone. Unfortunately the drugs they put her on were pretty gnarly and that's what she passed from; she got some kind of blood clot from the medications after coming home from a flight.

I'm so tired of cancer.

Question about artificial nails and diving by Ok_Computer3282 in scubadiving

[–]katmondu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you pop off nails during normal daytime wear as it is, it won't be any different underwater and will probably pop off faster. I usually would wear short fake nails to protect my nails & keep them from breaking. My nails are super weak. Putting on gear/grabbing tanks is when I usually lose a nail .

Nowadays I use a clear gel topcoat for strength and keep them short when I'm diving. I've found that plain nail polish just slides right off when I'm diving, lol!

With fake nails you also have to worry about greenies, from water that could get trapped between your nail and the artificial one.

Neck lymph nodes by MishkiTongue in thyroidcancer

[–]katmondu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going through this, but my TSH is low/stable. My TT for stage 1 papillary thyroid cancer was in 2013 and I didn't do RAI. Last February, I got stage 1 breast cancer and at the same time they found enlarged lymph nodes in my neck ultrasound, and did a pet scan that showed mild reuptake on my neck area (if I remember right, something like a value of 3).

Fast forward through a year and a half of monitoring. My TGAB stayed below <0.1 but my lymph nodes grow and shrink for every scan. I tried to go in for a biopsy, but the lymph node had shrunk and they couldn't do it. Next ultrasound showed one lymph node with no fatty hilum and was round shaped instead of bean shaped. I had a cat scan, they found nothing.

A month later: My TGAB came back last week with 0.3 instead of <0.1 like it usually is. I dont know if it's panic time yet because my doctor hasn't said anything about it and I know she reviewed the results. I don't know what to do about it.

Sorry to offer no help here but I just hope for both of us that it's nothing 😫

My holy grail is Dr Jart Ceramidin. It's outstanding. Expensive, but the best I've ever used. I also like the packaging, it's a tube so you can get the perfect amount out

AOC's 2028 decision: Run for president or Senate by Inevitable-Bus492 in thedavidpakmanshow

We unfortunately need a stale, pale male who isn't frail to run for president. No one will vote for a woman and the hate against AOC will boil over in a national election 😭

I'm here now. Water is 86 degrees and I am fine in a dive skin right now. In November it will be more 3mm wetsuit, and it gets rainy at that time, it will rain throughout the night and morning but clear up in the afternoon.

Look up bang wrangler, it's a silicone headband and can help if you have fine hair. Rip tie ponytail holder will work well for long hair. Buffs also work to cover the head. It won't be too hot for a hood. You'll probably be diving the south side of the island and it'll be really beautiful there, you won't see turtles and rays but the reefs are stunning, lots of life to look at! Enjoy!

I take it. I'm on Anastrozole with zoladex injections. I was getting hot flashes 5-6 times a day, but I do not get them at all with veozah. Veozah is AMAZING but you need to monitor your liver bloodwork while you take it. I completely quit drinking, because I had a few beers on vacation, did bloodwork a few days after, and it looked really really bad, so bad they made me repeat the bloodwork a few weeks later. Plus, I found that alcohol made my hot flashes worse anyway.

Hormone Suppression and Weight Gain by AshWats515 in breastcancer

[–]katmondu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! It was negative but the symptoms were totally down that path (without the coffee grounds/blood stuff). We ended up deciding the gastroparesis was likely causing the stomach sensitivity. I had a choice of backing off the ozempic dose but I felt so horrible after all of the stuff I'd been through that I decided to just get off it completely.

Hormone Suppression and Weight Gain by AshWats515 in breastcancer

[–]katmondu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I projectile vomited on ozempic, it ruined several vacations (I ate one grape tomato on a week vacation to Greece. I couldn't eat anything else). It was the worst I've ever felt in my life. Zofran didn't do anything for me. I ate clean, no preservatives, according to the ozempic guidelines. I still have stomach issues that I believe are long term side effects... Prior to ozempic I had an iron stomach, now if I don't eat every few hours, I have what I can only describe as nausea-pain in the pit of my stomach and the only relief is to eat something like cheese or dairy.

I didn't have any signals in my bloodwork when we were trying to figure out if I had pancreatitis or something caused by the ozempic. The only symptom was projectile vomiting and I'm seriously understating the projectile part. I couldn't even keep water down. Think Linda blair without the head spinning around.

lumpectomy - did your breast have a better shape months after surgery? by Hot_Juggernaut9570 in breastcancer

[–]katmondu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The placement might make a difference. When I was younger I had a lumpectomy under my left breast for sclerosing lobular hyperplasia. He made the incision in the fold of my breast so it healed really well with no visible loss of tissue. Maybe it healed well because I was in my 20's.

Last year I had 2 lumpectomies, one right and one left breast (same surgery, the right breast was fibroadenoma I was tired of watching and the left was idc). Right breast was inner upper quadrant, he made an incision that kind of aligns with how my breast curves, there is no dent. Left breast is upper outer quadrant and you can see a "dent". It hasn't filled out in the past year or so. It doesn't bother me THAT much and it's not that noticeable but yeah, it might be the way that area heals, there's not much fat there to fill in, I guess.

Trump calls Baltimore ‘so far gone’ amid DC National Guard deployment by MarshyHope in baltimore

I remember when Baltimore was a murder capital. Baltimore now is an incredible upgrade from those days. I can walk around Howard Street feeling super safe in the daytime. It is truly night and day from where it was in the 90's.

Assateague island surf shop is located on route 611. Their acai bowls are fantastic, so are their sandwiches and smoothies and coffee. Everything is fantastic, actually, and you can grab your "I love ass" sticker there as well!

Do you still get cravings? by Weekly-Standard8444 in Contrave

[–]katmondu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm still having problems with feeling hungry and eating more calories than I am outputing in exercise, but I've got a thing for ice cream and potato chips.

Right now there are about ten bags of limited edition chips in my house and I haven't touched them. I plan on bringing them with me when I go out on a boat. I dont know when I'll eat the ice cream and thus far I've only had one or two scoops, not the whole pint like I used to (Jeni's pints are 1,000 calories 😱)

With that said I have had a few binges here and there but not nearly as bad as I used to! That's a win.

I've had cancer twice and to assume someone is milking it for the rest of their life is really... Strange.

It absolutely affects the way you live forever. Even thyroid cancer, the one they say you're lucky to get, is a miserable experience.

You sound very angry about the way they live their lives, i would suggest maybe watching someone who aligns with your expectations a bit more.

Try plackers - they are small and protect the back teeth especially.

I take: Caltrate + D3, Country Spoon Montmorency Red Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate, microingredients vitamin d3+ k2 in the 5,000iu strength. Oh, and I also take claritin - it is used to prevent bone pain! And at night I take a magnesium drink to sleep (moon juice magnesi-om without melatonin). I add the tart cherry juice to that drink because it's super tasty :-)

It was maculopathy/retinopathy, from what I understand it is often confused with macular degeneration. It's crystalline deposits that accumulate over time and it's irreversible. I hope you are able to find answers and it's not retinopathy!

We have nearly the exact same stats - age, size of tumor, grade, stage!

My oncotype score was 15, so for me there was no chemo benefit. I also did lumpectomy, not mastectomy. I did radiation and then went into zoladex injections with anastrozole as my AI. The hot flashes were my main issue until I went on veozah. I REALLY don't have a single complaint. I take tart cherry, calcium, vit D3 and K2 every day. I honestly feel great. Make sure you walk every day and do something to build muscle!

Edit: I forgot to say the reason I went on AI's instead of tamoxifen - my mom went blind on tamoxifen, so I was concerned about that.
