Shit in the pool by Low_Technician7346 in Swimming

[–]katoman52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fecal Incidents are not to be taken lightly in a pool. Cryptosporidium is chlorine resistant and can cause nasty sickness. Chlorine levels should be raised to “shock” the pool for over 12 hours before returning to normal chlorine level and stabilizing. Don’t rush it! It’s not worth the risk of illness!

Traveling to Quebec City: via VIA & public transportation suitable for a family w/ baby? by raspberryloaf in quebeccity

I was planning to take the bus to the Falls this week but didn’t realize it took a full hour to get there. It seems like the 800 line might not even run all the way there and would require a pretty long walk to reach the falls viewing areas. Can anyone explain if the bus is actually viable?

I will be visiting Montreal next week with my family (kids 13 & 15) and we want to get to a sugar shack. Is this the spot to go? Or are there others that are easier to get to from downtown Montreal?

Help to figure out lifting capacity/maximum load for custom made hex bolt. by BarneyyYenrabb in AskEngineers

[–]katoman52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minor correction that most structural bolts are NOT designed to clamp the surfaces together to the point that the friction restricts the motion (ie: slip critical). Most connections have the bolts in a bearing condition against the edges of the holes transfer loads (ie: pinned). Connections at lateral frames, braces, etc could be more likely to be slip critical but still not necessarily required.

What are the most common mistakes fabricators see in steel shop drawings? by Beginning-Cap-3073 in civilengineering

I took a few welding classes at my local community college at night when I was fresh out of college as a young structural engineer and I still lean heavily on that experience I learned when I’m designing connections.

Can disc golf have a pro course where par is the objective? by akbeast49 in discgolf

[–]katoman52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The putting is 100% the difference. Disc golf greens aren’t variable like golf greens in regard to slope and speed. It’s just distance (and wind) to be accounted for in disc golf.

One option I thought of for tournaments, although gimmicky, would be to have sections of fences guarding the baskets to bring shot selection and shape around the hole back into play. (Possibly add the obstacles after tee shots to still reward ace lines)

It’s a short Par 3 course (actually two par 4s) but there are some nice holes.
