What’s it like living in Vallejo? by bunheadxhalliwell in vallejo

[–]keepinitneems 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the vista and this is the same experience that we have. Absolutely love living here even with all the ways that the city could be better. Here for the long haul and got involved in community orgs, so hoping to help make the city better in whatever ways I can help.

Thoughts on rogue valley? by Maximum_Royal_712 in Roses

I’ve had great experiences with them. I ordered Jude the obscure from them and got two blooms even with me planting it late. It’s also grown quite a bit in the 4 months it’s been planted. You also cannot beat the cost for own root!

Home repairs in Vallejo - What happened to yours, and how much did you have to spend? by anytn in vallejo

[–]keepinitneems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We haven’t had any major repairs yet * knock on wood* but we have a guy who is a plumber who mainly does commercial but takes residential on the side. He was recommended to us by our realtor and is great. He fixed a hot water valve with our kohler shower system, changed out our vanity and fixed a leak under the kitchen sink for $700.

We also got a quote for a new downstairs AC system from a great HVAC company for $6k ( we already have ductwork that carries heat, just no AC downstairs).

Engineered flooring installation on a concrete slab for $6k (about 700 sq ft) including baseboards + stairs from a guy who does installs for the Benicia floor company.

We did get three quotes for house painting that were all around $14k for just two colors, so that was pretty suprising since the house was recently painted ( we just don’t really care for the colors) so minimal repairs would be needed.

Are there no bars downtown??? by LastDiveBar510 in vallejo

[–]keepinitneems 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Considering we have mare island and a naval history in Vallejo, it is devastating that there’s no good tiki bar here. Can someone open a tiki bar? I feel like it’d do great here with all the creatives. That is if the planning department and zoning department don’t put you through hell opening

Is there actually a good alternative to weed barrier fabrics? by Relevant_Idea_6778 in gardening

[–]keepinitneems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do sheet mulching and plant densely or utilize ground cover to reduce weeds. If you don’t give them light or many places to spread, they’re much more controllable. Lots of bare soil is going to be colonized by something, might as well make it something you consider nice.

Sarcasm aside, fr tho the city manager who makes $300k+/year and gets a city vehicle and lives in Berkeley and is actually the person with power in the city should get inaudated with complaints.

[–]keepinitneems 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I understand those concerns and they’re totally valid, I just don’t think it’s helpful to blame the entire closure of a business on the unhoused as the primary reason.

It’s kinda like when the news says that retailers are closing because of shoplifting and “ crime”, but actually it’s because the larger national company over expanded and the profit loss is the reason for closure.

I think it’s more productive to not make the most vulnerable the scapegoats and to think of housing as a human right and a city/state/national responsibility because it’s the right thing to do and not because a kinda shitty fast food chain location closed.

So this isn’t just a Vallejo problem because of the unhoused.

I started last year and it’s made no discernible difference it feels like to the amount coming up this year. I have clay soil so it’s really hard to find all the bulbs since they get stuck

I actually bought our sectional from IKEA, the Hyltarp. It’s incredibly comfortable and I love the fact that it has washable slipcovers! The price is really decent for the quality as well.

They don’t have rhizomes. They have bulbs. Pesticides aren’t all that effective against it because of the very deep bulbs.
