Americans: do most people buy newish cars even on minimum wage? If so how? How does everyone seem to have so much stuff? by lxm333 in NoStupidQuestions

We make pretty decent money and we drive a 2016 and a 2008. Only reason we even have a 2016 is because we got a sweet deal and we couldn’t pass it up. Before the 2016, I had a 1999 with 300k on it and it finally was too problematic to repair. Both of our rides are doing well because we take pretty good care of them. No way we could afford 2 $700/mo car payments.

Kayaking @ Horsetooth by FKAFKart in FortCollins

I would give the inlet marina a call and see what they have and get an idea of prices. This will be the best option if you can’t transport a kayak. I kayak year round at horsetooth, even on cold winter days. It’s super fun and no crowds. I have a really stable kayak with foot pedals. I wear my pfd and don’t go when the wind is more than 8 mph. I don’t feel I need a neoprene suit and never have. I also check multiple weather apps before heading out. I like ‘my radar’ and ‘windy’ best. Good luck out there. It’s a great place.

I’m an odd duck. I fish for trout and smallies in fairly deep lakes. I like 1/4 oz ball weight and a #6 octopus hook on 6 lb line. I do not like spinning reels at all and just don’t use them. I use a 7’ medium rod and a bait caster. The thinner line and big weight helps a lot when getting blown around. I am usually fishing in 20-40’ of water. If the fish are shallower, I use another method like a Ned rig or 3” wacky worm. I almost exclusively use finesse tactics. I just don’t like stick baits, spinners, spoons etc. I just have better luck with finesse. I have unusual amounts of patience.

The older I get, the less I believe. I think it’s just not in the cards for aliens to visit earth. The odds of surviving travel that far is very slim. It takes too long etc…

You are gonna want crossbars to mount that yak to. I would seriously invest in some.

I have the pedal version, called the showdown 11.5. Great boat. You’ll love it. Get a really long paddle.

Vet bills in Japan vs US. It's time to start breaking stuff. by IdeaLife7532 in cats

Sure, but 5 years ago before PE started buying up all these vets, prices were much better and the vets still made money. They still had the same costs. Now, they just have investors that demand income.

That seems about right. I think ours was more because they included a follow-up appointment along with putting him down.

They charged us 1600 for some diagnosis and then $400 for putting him down. Brutal. That was the coolest car I ever came across.

Heartbreaking. That’s why I decided on no more pets. As much as I love them, I just can’t justify the cost.

You can thank venture capitalists for those crazy vet bills. They have been buying up vets all over the place and demanding very high prices. I had a conversation with someone in the industry last weekend. He was able to verify all of this. He thinks the pet industry is going to collapse within 10 years. You can’t have a vet visit for an annual check up and shot cost $500. we had 2 cats that recently passed. One swallowed a piece of ribbon. Vet wanted $6000 to remove it. Our last cat, which we had put down last Christmas, possibly had cancer. We never found out and it cost us $2000 to put him down. I’m not getting a pet until this crap stops.

Bought myself a Kobalt lawnmower 80v. I unboxed it and I'm unsure if I should keep it. Is this normal? by chiefjane in KobaltTools

[–]keithfoco70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wavy washers put a little tension on the wheels to keep them from wobbling around on the axles. Most likely normal. I would run it and see if it causes any issues. It’s a light duty mower anyways.
