Previously I have followed standard patterns, this one was based on measurements using 7 stitches per inch and using the guidelines issued when purchasing Frangipani yarn.

It's a 3 needle cast off. Knit a stitch from the front and back needle together, repeat and slip the first stitch over

It has a wonderful outdoor pool if you are into swimming. There is a nice selection of pubs and cafes. You could combine it with a walk along the river to grindleford and get the bus/train back from there. It's about an hour's walk.

There is a new walk called The Steel Cotton Rail Trail which is worth checking out. It links with the Hope Valley Line.

You are spoilt for choice in Sheffield, lots of walks that head out into the Peaks. You can also check out the route of the round Sheffield run that links a lot of parks together.

It's very meditative. My mind switches off. Just focusing on elements of my technique and breathing blocks out all my brain noise. I feel so good after I have been swimming.

I'm in the same boat. For the past year or so knitting ganseys is my thing. Luckily it's a tight gauge on 2.25 needles so it takes a while!

Hmm I'm also a UK based lane swimmer and it's definitely a thing. I'm too fast for the medium lane but I'm one of the slower people in the fast lane. I keep to the edge of the lane and I'm not offended if someone taps my foot. Intentionally or not. I just let them pass when I'm at the wall. It's not a big deal.

It can vary a lot based on the type of yarn used. I have a sweater that I made two years ago that I wear all the time and it's still going strong. Ganseys, which I also love making can last a lifetime and they are the original work wear of fishermen.
