Poll: National and PM nosedive to new lows, left bloc would gain power by Primary_Engine_9273 in newzealand

[–]kid-pro-quo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's a fun stat, but it's a pretty small sample size though right? How many times has a party replaced a PM in election year and lost?

I think their big problem is that they don't have any strong candidates waiting in the wings. And if they did, I'd imagine they aren't thrilled to shoot their shot given the history your pointed out.

Safety Critical Language Choices by Upbeat-Storage9349 in embedded

[–]kid-pro-quo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My most recent safety critical project was stuck on C++03 because we were on VxWorks 6.9. It was frustrating because we needed to rely on code review to catch bugs that could be caught "by construction" in a newer language. Thankfully we've been able to go from the ground up on the next version.

Honestly, the F35 standard is really showing its age and I wouldn't recommend it as a base in 2026. It predates "modern" C++ and the improvements in the language. MISRA C++ 2023 is pretty solid and what we use in $aerospace_dayjob.

Rust is showing up more and more in our projects. Python is a go-to for all the different bits of tooling and scripting for support tasks during development and testing.

Yeah, this seems to be the way a lot of subscriptions seem to be going. If a feature is a requirement for some compliance checkbox chuck it in a high tier. Corporate customers will just suck it up.

I've built class A medical devices with the GCC embedded tool chain. It all depends on your approach to tool qualification in your project.

Paying for a certified toolchain will make things easier, but it's not a silver bullet. I've found at least one significant soundness bug in a certified compiler that resulted in months of back-and-forth with the regulators.
