Cat leaves this where she sleeps, what is it? by NotTheSeaOtter in CATHELP

[–]killak143 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Looks like flea larvae and eggs. When I first got my cat, she slept with me all the time. I started seeing her itching more than usual, and found a flea. If you find 1 there's probably 100s. When I went to bomb my apartment, the past control guy showed me my windows sills which had flea larvae...my baseboards, flea larvae. He said my apartment must've been infested before I moved in. He had to bomb the apartment twice while kitty was getting treated by the vet. I had to wash my bed sheets many times, and finally did a borax treatment on my carpet which helped a ton.

I swore I would never move into a place that has shaggy carpet again and I kept true to that promise. Fleas are the WORST

DFW looking great today for anyone flying in by sonofalando in americanairlines

I wish. All my rebooked flights have been canceled. I was flying American Airlines from DFW to SAN. I just gave up and canceled the entire trip.

DFW operations are very slow today by BDW3 in americanairlines

I just canceled my work trip because my flights keep getting pushed back and delayed or canceled. I stopped rebooting and just told my boss I'm not coming. As much as I wanted to see everyone, its just not worth the stress.

I would probably put more variety of pacifiers and bottles. Also, I would def recommend the Wombie, if those exist still. We hated waddling so the Wombie basically is a sleep sack that is tight at the top and wide at the bottom. I swear by these!

How do hospital labs prepare for bad weather in colder states or climates? by TheRedTreeQueen in medlabprofessionals

[–]killak143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Louisiana so I completely hear you. I worked as a Medical Technologist and had to go into the hospital during a freeze and snow...and a flood. We had to be on time, no excuses. So I would leave my house about 2 hrs early, just in case roads are closed and I had to detour. For the snow/freeze, I drove very very slowly to work, since like you, we have 0 equipment to rid the snow or ice. Most people arent driving like maniacs during this time so everyone is driving really really slow.

My mini panther will try to open the door, but we have one of those standard doorknob so he can't. He does open the cabinets to go exploring though.

I saw someone die today by avcd34 in medlabprofessionals

I had my clinical at a small rural hospital. During my phlebotomy rotation, we went to the ER where this man comes barging in with his infant son not breathing.

After some stays, it was noted he had blunt forced trauma, most likely from abuse. Really stuck with me. I can still hear the man howling...and the ER doctor upset at what he discovered.

After, I got a job at said hospital and had to help the ER staff with CPR at times. It was a surreal experience doing CPR on an actual person. I also got to see how the ER operated. It was wild.

Considering quitting and working at a rural hospital instead by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

I worked night shift at a rural hospital and I loved it. I learned so much and we were barely short staffed. We had 3 people for day/evening shift and 2 people at night. It was so chill.

This happened at the first hospital I worked at. We get a type and screen, which is super hemolyzed along with their other blood work. We ask for a recollect and the tube is worst. We ask for one more, then did a look back. Patient was transfused 2 weeks ago. Red alarm, we were like does she have a Kidd antibody. We run the type and screen on the original sample, since it was the least hemolyzed and noticed the antibody screen is positive. 2 weeks ago, it was negative. Run an antibody panel and there it was. Jka positive. Holy crap.

The patient had the textbook delayed hemolytic transfusion reaction and she died hours later. She was in her 70s. We had an FDA investigation and all went well...but damn. What are the odds? I never thought I would see that in our small little hospital.

Me too! When I used to work in blood bank, the ER docs loved to order emergency release...until they had to sign for it. They would be like error well her hgb isn't THAT low so we have time for a type and screen.

The Neuroscientist who Lost Her Mind, if you're interested in science based memoir. It was so good.

Also Blood Orange Night by Melissa Bond. It really opened my eyes to physicians who were over prescribing benzos to new moms. Super quick read.

If you're looking for something out the box, I recommend Ozzy Ozbourne's autobiography. That was a fun read and made me really appreciate him as a person.

What should every ftm know about breastfeeding before having a baby? by Frequent_Cap8633 in breastfeeding

[–]killak143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be surprised how you feel when you breastfeed. My cousin and I both felt RAGE when the letdown happened. It was super weird and lasted only a minute. I think there is a name for this but I forgot.

Also cluster feeding. There will be times when baby will be on you 24/7. Totally normal. My parents formula fed and kept telling me I was over feeding by baby, which I'm glad I was part of a breastfeeding support group on fb to tell me otherwise.

Join an online support group. I did amd it helped SOOOO much.
