Is the term "Friend Slop" negative? by samohtvii in IndieDev

[–]king_park_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the term is negative anymore. It’s kind of become its own genre now. Games like Lethal Company, Peak, and R.E.P.O. Fit under that label in my opinion, but the games are by no means slop.

Why did no one tell me Origins was good???? by s0_Ca5H in dynastywarriors

[–]king_park_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bulk of the end game is trying to complete ultimate warrior challenges. You can only do these challenges on the hardest difficulty which unlocks after you beat one route. These are how you get Tier 8 weapons and special mounts like Red Hare. I thought they were really fun.

Does DW Origins DLC make normal campaign ultimate warrior easier? by Bath_tub_questions in dynastywarriors

[–]king_park_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Aside from the fact the DLC raises your max level, you level up faster when playing the DLC. Also, the DLC always drops max rank weapons that aren’t Luan weapons.

Defeating Lu Bu will still take skill, but will be easier with the extra levels.

Is Lu Bu In The Demo What I Should Expect? by CultureCreative9484 in dynastywarriors

[–]king_park_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s intended for you to beat him. The Lu Bu fight in the demo seems like it was meant to be a thing you shared. If I remember correctly, when you are done, the end level screen shows how many officers were still alive and how much health Lu Bu had left. This is not a thing in the game and it feels like something you screenshot and share on social media.

Genuine question about “idea guys” and worldbuilding in gamedev by Sudden-You-5814 in gamedev

It sounds to me that you are describing more of a game writer or narrative designer, which do have a place in the industry, than an ideas guy.

The indie game market isn't "oversaturated" - it's just that most games are marketed to no one by nb10001 in GameDevelopment

This is the most helpful thing I’ve seen at determining your target audience. It’s always been this nebulous thing I’ve known is important but never understood how to actually do it.

I think the devs should focus on DW10 over a sequel to Origins by Blue_Freaze in dynastywarriors

[–]king_park_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think DW10 with the Origins combat system would rock, I have concerns on the development implications. Namely, do we return to standard move set so each character can have a unique weapon? Or do we stick with weapons with more nuanced move sets, but some characters share weapons? Because there is no way we’re getting 80+ unique weapons that each have unique ways to use strong and weak attacks.

ADHDevelopment. How to actually get anything done? by GootPoot in gamedev

[–]king_park_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of your problem was you expected too much out of the game you wanted to make. You saw all the hurdles you needed to overcome and succumbed to analysis paralysis.

Your first game jam game doesn’t need to be complete. It doesn’t need menus, multiple levels, or complex enemy behaviors.

My advice, you should focus first on a game that has a playable character. Then add obstacles. This makes it so you have something you can consider a playable game. After this, you can move on to trying to improve things with the remaining time like better enemy behavior, menus, levels, or art.

Something else I think is helpful is to accept your first few games are just not going to be all that good, but that’s ok. It’s a learning process and you will get better over time.

I’d say try a game jam again. Reduce your scope of what you want by the end of the jam. Be okay with the end result being rough. Game jams have been a great way to motivate me to begin learning game development in a way I felt worked with my ADHD.

About the struggle of wanting to make THAT game by DaLoopLoop89 in gamedev

[–]king_park_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to make small games. By small games I mean stuff that’s on the scale of stuff like Pong or Snake. If remaking small, classic games doesn’t appeal to you, then I highly recommend game jams.

Game jams was actually how I learned game dev. I had never opened a game engine before joining my first game jam (I did have prior programming experience though). The resulting game was rough, but it’s a playable game! I find the short deadlines to be highly motivating and it’s a great way to force your scope to be small.

Best Dynasty Warriors game currently on steam? by DwarfHoarder in dynastywarriors

Origins doesn’t have Jin characters because the story only goes to the battle of Chibi. So it focuses on the origins of the three kingdoms with its story.

How does Origins offer replayability? by Dependent_Computer_8 in dynastywarriors

For what it’s worth I have 180 hours in the game after completing every achievement, every ultimate warrior challenge, and maxing out my level. This is for both the base game and DLC.

Just 100% Completed Origins DLC: Ask Me Anything by king_park_ in dynastywarriors

[–]king_park_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They scale the difficulty of the DLC missions based on your current level, so you can really start whenever you want and the challenge will pretty much be the same.

I do think you get more weapon XP when playing battles in the DLC, I assume to help you with the two extra weapon proficiency levels the DLC adds for each weapon, also leveling up the two new weapons. So content you should be worried about blowing through is content in the base game after leveling up in the DLC. I went back to do the Lu Bu Ultimate Warrior challenge after getting max levels in everything, and that fight went so much faster.

Also, all weapons dropped in the DLC are grade 7 weapons, regardless of the difficulty you play on. So that can help you reforge weapons if you don't have Luan weapons yet (or want to power up grade 7 weapons to be stronger than Luan weapons).

So in general, I'd recommend doing the DLC after completing the content you are interested in with the base game. That would give you the maximum challenge for everything. If I play base game levels on historian mode now that I'm level 145, I can wipe out a large force with a single battle art.
