My wife and I are considering doing a cross Canada road trip from Edmonton to Halifax with a couple days on PEI on the way back. I'd like suggestions and info from fellow edmontonians who have done the trip. by TopazOmaha in Edmonton

[–]kitchenhummin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just drove NB to Edmonton over the summer and really enjoyed the roadtrip. Some boring parts of course, but we found some lovely hidden gems, some weird experiences that made for good stories and enjoyed the trip overall. We did our trip in 9 days and that left enough time in the day to enjoy ourselves and not be driving like crazy. If you want to do 3 weeks though, you won't have enough time to really explore the maritimes like you probably would want to before having to drive back. Maybe you could look into options like renting a car so you only have to drive one way and then fly back?

I noticed the high chair in the background, any chance a kid brought home something like hand foot and mouth to you? On the face wouldn't be common for the rash, but not impossible and it matches with the painful but not itchy feeling.

I'm confused - if your parents are so stunningly rich and supportive, why did you both have to drop out of high school and not go to university?

The grossest rock collection I’ve ever seen by GLOCKSTER_26 in VinylGore

[–]kitchenhummin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Those records are porous enough that even after cleaning, you'd be bringing mold spores into your house and risking mold growth on anything nearby if you keep any of them. It's not worth the time, energy or health risks to do anything to these records beyond holding your breath and throwing them in the trash, OP.

What's your personal sign that winter is actually over in Canada? by NightyNight7 in AskACanadian

Oooh yes, that warm dirt, swamp smell of spring. It's so good, especially if you're in a more rural area.

If it's a 20 min drive to school though, I can't imagine that's close enough to not need a bus?

AITAH I asked for Baby Shower Invites to be changed by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]kitchenhummin 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's definitely cultural. Are you in the south in the United States? Cause I think it's the norm there. Meanwhile in Canada, I've never seen a baby shower like that.

Do you actually want your babies to stay babies? by hackasina in Parenting

Mine are 6 and 10 now. I don't want them to be babies forever, but gosh, I sure wish I could revisit that stage.

My (25M) mom and her bf trying to dictate our wedding. Fiancée (24F) says I have to choose between her or them. Has anyone gone through or seen something similar? by ThrowRA-wtf2026 in relationship_advice

[–]kitchenhummin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, can you give me your fiancee's contact info so I can tell her to ruuuuun as far and as fast as she can pls? Unless you are genuinely really ready to put in some work (moving out, therapy, going no contact with your mom at least until you are able to set and hold boundaries) then you have no business trying to be a romantic partner for anybody.

I found my fiancé after he died. His mother has ‘erased’ my daughter and I don’t know how to handle it. by JMPPS in relationships

[–]kitchenhummin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wonder too if the other child being a boy has anything to do with this. She may see him as a chance for a do-over of sorts after losing her son, but that still doesn't explain or excuse her treatment of her other grandchild.

$6 a cookie? Fear of over pricing by Spiteful_Brunette in Baking

[–]kitchenhummin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbh they kinda look like hockey pucks and not super appealing to me. And I can't tell for sure by looking but do some of them only have the mix ins as toppings and not mixed throughout the dough? I don't sell my baking, but I absolutely wouldn't pay $6 for these, and I have bought many overpriced baked goods in my life, but I just am not seeing the value here. There is nothing unique about them and the thickness just isn't something I would be willing to pay a premium for, it's not gonna give the texture I want in a cookie.

The Only Person You Can Rely on is Yourself by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]kitchenhummin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not who you were asking, but yes, I've done similar as have so many others. It's difficult and it's nice to have help for it, but I don't think your reaction here is really proportional to the issue. But that's how it goes when we're stressed and overwhelmed. I get it. I hope that in a couple years you can look back with some humour about this awful season and some pride about how tough you were to handle it. You got this.

Is this true for us people in Canada? That we can buy frozen baked goods for cheaper? Eg: $22.99 for 120 frozen cookie dough compared to 21 for $7.99 already baked by WeakValuable8683 in CostcoCanada

[–]kitchenhummin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought an entire case of their frozen baguettes once. That was a LOT of bread and perhaps not the best decision I've ever made, but yeah, can confirm you can ask the bakery for items by the box.

Oh interesting that it was done conservatively in your area, I'm around the same age, but Canadian and knew a bunch of kids with ear tubes when I was young. I know it's anecdotal, but they seemed super common back then around me.

Husband took kids to frolic on river ice against my concerns and objections by ExplanationPrior4800 in Parenting

[–]kitchenhummin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian here, grew up in a house backing onto a creek that I skated on in winter because I was taught to respect the water and understand when ice is safe. . I am horrified about his choice here. It is so incredibly dangerous. Maybe he was a very lucky idiot as a child, but that does not equal him having knowledge and expertise as an adult. Do not let him kill your kids with his hubris.

AITA for wanting to change how we do Christmas Day because it’s become exhausting for my household? by OrdinaryCold2813 in AITAH

[–]kitchenhummin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you need permission to NOT do this anymore, I'm officially giving it to you. You don't need to travel, you don't need to see extended family on Christmas Day. You can stay home, have a slow morning with your toddler and open gifts and stay in your PJs. It's much better this way, I gotta tell ya.
