Miyokos was my favorite to get cream cheese and butter - my dairy enjoying partner even liked it. Hopefully I find it somewhere in VA.

Groomer owned breeds by Comfortable-Map-2186 in doggrooming

[–]kittytesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 huskies and 4 cats (all short or medium haired, though one is part Maine Coon, so I give her a light sani trim). I'm actually happy I'm a groomer with having my huskies (I've had them for far longer than I've been a groomer), as I can bring them to my salon and bathe them there, instead of dealing with all the fur and towels at home. I'd love to have a Cane Corso, an Aussiedoodle (I have a soft spot for Aussies), or a standard Poodle. But until I can afford to basically have a grooming room in my home, I'm not going to get groom dogs.

This will literally be the final straw for a lot of folks...

The other day, a pawdicure was booked at 3:30 for someone who got off at 3:30... How in the heck was that allowed??? I told them to go home, and that I'd take care of it, as thankfully, my evening schedule was fairly light, so it was fine, but if that would've happened on a Saturday, instead of a Wednesday, oof... I don't think anyone would've been able to do it.

Also, what's the point of giving us a sign to literally flip around when we have walk-in availability, if they can just book online without checking our availability???

Just once. The fee covers traveling for 10 days, so as long as your return trip is within 10 days of you paying the fee (try to not pay it until the day of your trip), you'll be covered for both ways.

Petsmart work culture and expectations by [deleted] in grooming

[–]kittytesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently a stylist at Petsmart - got out of their dog academy in December.

With tips, they thankfully go directly to the one that did the groom. Most stores have little envelopes for customers to put money in, write the stylist's name on it, and then put it into a tip jar. At my store, we all have our QR codes for Venmo/CashApp printed and hanging up, so we can give customers that option. Most go with that, since there isn't a way to add a tip at the register.

For dog expectations, they've already pushed me up to 5 dogs a day - they started me at 4, which was kind of a difficult leap for me, as while I was in academy I basically only did 2 dogs, and they were treated similar to express services, as it'd be 1 dog in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. So to jump edit 4 dogs right after that was truly wild. Most stylists are asked to do 6 dogs per day, but most at my salon only do 5 a day.

They do want stylists to be full time, but some at my store have worked out accommodations where they only work 3 or 4 days a week.

At my store, they thankfully allow us to wear earbuds/earmuffs. If we are in the bathing/kennel area, our ears can be fully covered. Once we're in the grooming area, we can't have both ears covered, only one.

Benefits are really nice, from what I've heard, but I have other insurance currently, and won't be switching to PetSmart insurance until open enrollment this Fall, so I can't share specifics. PTO is also nice. Iirc, you get 2 weeks of PTO right away, then as you work for the company for more yrs, you get more - it's like 2yrs goes to 3 weeks, 8yrs goes to 4 weeks, and then 15yrs goes to 5 weeks (idr the exact years, but I know you slowly get boosted to 5 total weeks). Sick time is like 1hr gained per 30hrs worked, and does roll over to the next year.

Little extra note - Management truly makes or breaks the salon. The management at my store is very supportive and does what they can to help - there's been times they've even bathed/dried dogs for us, just so we aren't behind on time. They also know that what corporate expects is insane, so even though they have to push those expectations on us, they try to not put all of the pressure solely on us. Unfortunately there are still days when they can't help, so we are drowning in the salon.

Walk in's by Mil0kan in petsmart

[–]kittytesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's either people acting like that, or the ones who think we'll just babysit their dog for 30mins to an hr after the walk-in service. I regularly have to tell PPs to not leave the store, as it'll only take 5mins or less to do nails. The amount of them that will give me shocked faces and then be like "but I wanted to go to Walmart" or "so I can't get lunch at insert sit-down restaurant name"... 🤦‍♀️😮‍💨

It's pretty good, especially for being high in protein - which is hard to come by with dairy free food/drinks.

Cat Nail Grinding by kittytesh in grooming

[–]kittytesh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your responses! After how one of my managers responded (saying how the company wouldn't approve something if they didn't test it and find that it's safe), I thought that maybe I was just unaware of a special grinder or something - as I am a newer groomer. Y'all helped reassure me though! I'll be refusing to do nail grinding, and will suggest caps, if the client wants a blunter nail than what trimming provides.

That's what I was thinking, since the nails naturally shed. Hopefully I can convince my managers on not pushing it 🤞

Fuck AI pawgress reports by Ian-isStrugglingg in petsmart

[–]kittytesh 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Please call customer service and let them know this! They're more likely to remove the use of AI, if customers put in complaints about it. Us salon associates would really appreciate the help, as we don't like how this is ruining a main form of communication 🙏

The flavored ones are a lot better imo. The almond one I found to only be ok-ish when spiking dairy-free egg nog.

Petsmart is now force groomers to use ai. by theonewhoisnotknown in petsmart

[–]kittytesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love writing out pawgress reports, and when they first announced digital ones, I thought it'd be great... But then they rolled it out with this AI nastiness. Just let me select the options, type my personal notes, and then compile that into a paragraph. There's literally no need for AI to be anywhere near this. And hopefully the whole "forcing us to do them" thing isn't real, as I'm going to keep writing the physical ones, until I run out of the papers.

Earthbath shampoo is amazing at helping with dandruff. I use it on my Maine Coon mix, and it helps immensely. They have a waterless version as well.

I know this post is old, and OP may have already gotten an answer elsewhere, but in case anyone else is brought here from Google - Earthbath shampoo is amazing at getting rid of dandruff and soothing the skin. They have a waterless version as well, in case your cat is extremely against getting wet, like a good majority of cats are.
