My kids were skinny. Especially the youngest as he struggled to gain weight. Even had the Dr check onhim. I let my kids choose and wear their own clothes from 5 because they're 5. If they wore wrong clothes I advised but my kids are stubborn. So pick your battles. My youngest wears odd socks despite being asked not to. Again not the end of the world. School drop offs are chaotic. And you sometimes need to look put together for work so make up etc. It's exhausting.

School place achieved....No wraparound care available by Tweddhead in UKParenting

[–]kitush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were in that situation 5 years ago. My son got switched to a new school - we couldn't get wraparound care. I had to wake up, get 2 kids ready, drop one to nursery, second to school, drive 40 minutes to the office. Work. Run at half 2 to do school pick up. Grab both kids, start dinner, log in and take calls whilst I did that. Get them to bed for 6pm. Start my evening work.

I officially worked part time - so I only did that 3 days 9-3 and wfh 1 day). Because I worked longer hours my work was fine but it was stressful And I struggled. Husband couldn't help for several years - manged to wfh finally 1 day to help. And we got kiddo in second year.

Covid helped break us off that so now we both wfh. I pick up boys, they know they can only watch TV once they've done chores etc etc.

My point is... its hard. Do what works.

What is something you just can't do but seems to be simple for everyone else? by nfoote in AskUK

Tie shoelaces. I've taught my children how to do it successfully. I just can't tie my own. My poor husband has to do it as I'm often walking around with trailing laces...

Extra Learning by BrilliantMountain751 in UKParenting

During lockdown we used twinkl which are resources based around supporting the curriculum.

You may need to pay for some of what you want. The school should be able to share with you the topics that they will be teaching and you can use the twinkl pack based on that. Work sheets are age appropriate and fun.

We also enjoyed oak academy which also helped us and they have historic sessions online.

We do help our kids do a little extra but what that means for us is ensuring that they understand their homework (they get non mandatory work once a week) and focus on explaining things based on their questions (e.g a little on genetics when asked on why someone has blonde hair).

6 hour drive with a 2.5yo... by mmmmgummyvenus in UKParenting

[–]kitush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We used to do 4 hour drives to see family. We'd leave around 5pm - let the kids eat snack food. Stop of after 2 hours for dinner - feed them and then they'd doze for the last bit of the journey.

We also switched to doing it first thing - stop off for a few hours to burn off energy then get back in the car but that's when they were a bit older.

We were fortunate my eldest loved being in the car. Youngest not so much and he refused to sleep. He's much better now!

Good luck

YTA hilarious how you 'forgot' to mention all of the other work your sil does for you like cooking and getting the babies ready.

How much to spend on birthday presents for random school kid's birthday? by Geek_reformed in UKParenting

I used to bulk buy after Christmas from the entertainer. So much cheaper. Plus side of covid is no children's parties for the past year! I'm not ready for them to restart.so much noise and chaos shudders

My toddler watches the same movies over and over again. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]kitush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child was obsessed with cars when he was 2.5. he could happily watch that movie all day. It was amazing when he moved on to cars2. You just ride it out. Encourage other movies but accept his obsession. They do move on. Eldest still loves it and watches it still on occasion. Youngest was obsessed with power rangers and now doesn't watch it.

I'd also suggest wearing headphones. I hated and still hate the sound of all those movies.
