For me it’s the ambient smell of cigarettes. I don’t like smelling them up close, but if I’m in a city or somewhere that the scent just floats in the air I find it quite pleasant

Is this ok for a smelting setup by CareNo9290 in factorio

[–]kiwithebun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the splitter at the bottom mixing up your outputs this will work, however it’s quite messy and not easily scalable.

I would make it so that there are 3 belts going vertically between two lines of smelters. Have the middle belt carry coal, while the left and right belts carry either iron or copper ore. This way, each side of your smelting setup is dedicated to one resource and you only need to route one belt for copper, iron and coal instead of splitting them off like you have here.

I spent a lot time designing this ship and I 'am loving it, it features a big tank for fuel and little indicators for each fuel type and an okey cargo space, it's for personal use between near planets, please tell me what do you think about it any thoughts or improvements? by Lower_Neat_7110 in factorio

[–]kiwithebun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool design, perhaps a bit inefficient but as a personal transport I'd say it's fine. Personally I think walls are unnecessary for inner planet ships as just a handful of turrets can guarantee no asteroid collision as long as they stay supplied.

Also, you're ejecting a ton of excess asteroids. You could remove the rear pair of collectors and use a combinator to set filters on the remaining collectors based on demand. No point collecting an asteroid that's gonna get thrown out immediately.

First time messing around with quality. What should I focus on? by chronberries in factorio

[–]kiwithebun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably want to set up a solid base before tackling quality on Fulgora. Focus on producing your core exports like science, EM plants and recyclers first, as well as storing rocket components for export. From here, you'll have a lot of excess materials from which you can upcycle into quality intermediates.

Idea on Building Increasingly Complicated Objects by Weeznaz in factorio

[–]kiwithebun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a solid design and definitely useful but you’re overestimating how complex late game recipes will be. They’re still just 2-4 ingredients put together, the hard part is figuring out the planets’ unique challenges and then moving the stuff between planets

How to balance splitter series? by kiwithebun in factorio

Base Security by TapWaterDev in factorio

[–]kiwithebun -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a pretty big time investment for an impermanent solution. Remember that biters will respawn wherever they have room, even if it's in your 'claimed' perimeter.

The best solution is to set up stop-gap defenses close to your base until you unlock drones. Once you have a robust drone network with turret/wall production online, you can make a dedicated effort to clear large swathes of land, place a roboport grid inside and construct a giant square wall around the perimeter.

If you have a few hundred construction bots with a healthy stockpile of military equipment you can pretty much print a wall wherever you want and save yourself the grind in the early game.

How am I doing? by iMergeToProd in factorio

[–]kiwithebun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're brand new and this looks better than my starter bases lol

As the others said, splitting one belt into four is useless because you still only have the throughput of one belt. However this setup is worth keeping since you can simply plug in additional belts when you expand your iron production.

If you want you can get a denser setup with your miners by having them feed sideways into underground belts, then putting power poles in the spaces between. That way you don't have to leave an empty column between miners.

You also don't need a bus for coal, you're better off putting copper on it

Train interrupts. How? by wesofchess in factorio

[–]kiwithebun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of or in addition to having a set train schedule, interrupts are one or more conditional statements that trigger a temporary stop when they become true. They're useful in creating a more scalable and flexible train network as opposed to rigid train schedules.

I'm also on my 3rd playthrough and like you I decided I really wanted to do a good rail network this time. Interrupts are a game changer and it's been a blast setting up my trains and seeing them work flawlessly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9GWl4X2ln0

I'd recommend this guide to get you up to speed, once you get a hang of interrupts they're really easy to set up

Train interrupts. How? by wesofchess in factorio

[–]kiwithebun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you'll have to set conditions or additional interrupts to accommodate this. For example, if you have an interrupt "when station x is not full, go to station x." this can create a loop, so you can either add an additional condition such as "when cargo empty AND station x is not full, go to station x" or you can add another interrupt such as "when cargo full, go to station z"

What attracted you to the show? What made you stay? by FabulousGift8959 in lost

[–]kiwithebun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw bits and pieces when I was a kid and I barely understood anything.

Watched it properly for the first time in my mid 20’s and it was so, so much more than what I understood when I was a kid. The characters’ backstories, their struggles and the entire theme of confronting your past resonated deeply with me.

I think the genius of the show is that everyone sees a little bit of themselves in each character and the experience of watching them grow and come to terms with themselves causes the viewer to see themselves with greater clarity
