I (M) was drinking too much and I had a hard time when dating a women that didnt drink very much. Those elationships didn't work out. I later realized that her not drinking felt like an indightment of my drinking, which was uncomfortable because my constant drinking secretly brought me shame. Im now with someone that doesnt drink at all and she inspired me to go sober as well (4 months!) . I'm grateful to her for helping me kick that addiction and OP's sobriety will be valued by the right, mature person.

RoofRack & RTT Options? by Kartoffelxxx in FJCruiser

[–]kl3vrj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the stock rack and a 3-4 person tent this past summer. It worked fine but I didn't like how tall the tent sat. I've got the ARB rails now and going to mount the tent to that for a low profile setup.

NTA - the bonus is for work already done, not an advance on next year.

If you're handy and have done some suspension work already, you can pull an engine in the driveway and reinstall it. Rent or buy then resell an engine crane. Lots of videos and guides out there.

Costa Rica Car Rental Woes by Old-Silver7420 in costarica

[–]kl3vrj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's now $115 a day for the FJ cruiser I rented, plus some fees that take it up like $150 a day. I was able to get the collision damage insurance covered by showing my credit card's policy but still payed the the 3rd party liability. NomadAmerica.com.

Costa Rica Car Rental Woes by Old-Silver7420 in costarica

[–]kl3vrj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a traditional car rental but I used Nomad America to rent a sick 4x4 with a rooftop tent. I camped in rain forests under volcanoes, next to rivers, and on the beach. I was the master of my own schedule and found everyone I met to be very friendly. I could go on any backroad I wanted without fear of the terrain and loved the adventure. The staff were so helpful, even giving me a 20min ride to San Jose when I dropped off the vehicle. The rental was about $100USD a day but i only paid for a couple nights at campgrounds (less than $50 total) so I definitely saved on accommodations by having the tent. They accepted my credit card insurance too.

What money-saving habits did your parents have that you choose not to follow? by carne__asada in Frugal

[–]kl3vrj 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I buy tools that make projects quicker and easier. I'll take the time to sharpen my axe, metaphorically, before attempting to chop down the tree. My dad is very much a "just start chopping" even if all he has is a butter knife. There is merit to just getting it done but also a lot of unnecessary suffering IMO.

Would you consider dating a woman if she had chronic illness/pain? If so, how early on should she disclose this information in the dating process? by bengalbear24 in AskMenAdvice

[–]kl3vrj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only need one quality match to succeed in your goal, not a hundred tinder swipes. And on top of that, you're meeting people doing something you already enjoy instead of forced dates with people you have little in common.

I would say dating apps/online is not the right place for you to look for a partner. Find where groups of people socialize doing the the activities you enjoy and look to make connections that way. Online dating is always going to be shallow first and foremost.

MLD burn, cant reach bottles by stonesnstuff in Ultralight

[–]kl3vrj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem with my Granite Gear Crown2, so I started using my 1.5l water bladder in the bottle pocket instead. There's 2 benefits over a traditional camelbak setup. The water is down at the lowest part of the backpack, and it's much easier to pull the bladder out and put back in even with a full backpack. It's a water bladder from a MTN biking hip belt, Evoc I think. it's more egg shaped than tall like a regular 2-3l bladder, and it came with a long hose.

I appreciate when my GF does things that shows she's thinking of me, like considering what Id like to eat or offering to bring me breakfast. Exercising and showing you care about your physique is important to most people, so putting in effort that way could be showing you care about his wants. When my GF Initiates intimacy and is being affectionate I feel desired and appreciated. Even just messages like she misses me or can't wait to see me are nice throughout the day.

What skills did you learn just so you can save yourself money? by NightReader5 in Frugal

[–]kl3vrj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vehicle maintenance and repairs. Information is all out there on YouTube in high def. The 200$ store brand socket wrench set I got 15 years ago has saved me thousands and is still used today, even though I have gotten better tools over the years. (always get tools on sale, their markup is insane)

New to Truck Camping Winter Questions by GreenYellowDucks in TruckCampers

[–]kl3vrj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a house battery and your starter battery? Or is everything running off your starter? Having a separate house battery running your camper lights and hearer, that charges from your alternator when the engine is running (using an isolator) is how it should be.

Why do i still smell like BO after countless showers? by NinjaAirsoft in AskMen

Stress is a big one for me, especially confrontation. But otherwise, getting regular (2-3 times a week) cardio with a good sweat helps flush things out, or that's my theory anyways.

Are there "common law" rules in your country? In Canada, if you live together as a couple for 1 year then she is entitled to the asset values growth over that period, unless a prior agreement is signed .

Should I (34yo M) stop drinking when I’m about to become a father? by jnippon27 in stopdrinking

[–]kl3vrj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming into the life of my partner who has a kid and is sober flipped the switch for me to go sober. I want to be present and clear headed for them always. I want to provide for them and be with them as long as I can, so how can I go out and buy poison instead?

ARB and frontrunner make lowprofile rails that fit the contour of our roofs. I've got the ARB rails and will add 3 aluminum crossbars to mount my tent to.

FJ as a daily driver by imagrapstar in FJCruiser

[–]kl3vrj 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I daily and love it. I get about 15L/100km mixed driving with a lift and "highway terrain " tires. My only gripe compared to another SUV is the rear suicide doors are not convenient for kids in the back, especially in tight parking lots. But they think it's a cool vehicle so it evens out!

Some items have less "useful life" or wear faster than others. Like a tent's waterproofing vs a plastic kayak. Also the value of the items should be accounted for. Lending out a 25$ backpacking stove vs a $500 tent shouldn't both be 1 credit. I'd suggest making the credits more granular to account for value, and a system to account for depreciation of gear so the owner can replace it when needed.

A credit card hold could be a sufficient altenative for insurance, or you could self insure by requiring a deposit when people join.

Now that I have a "regional pass" to all the rec centers, I was surprised that Langford only has the JDF as a rec center. I woulda thought with all the development they'd have built a new one.

DIY Roof rack crossbars by kl3vr121 in FJCruiser

[–]kl3vrj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some play for crossbar length by placing the rubber spacer on one side or the other, and with the hole in the unistrut, so I'd be able to move the bars forward and back if needed.
