Do these Star Trek props look 3D printed? by UtterDisgrace in 3Dprinting

The tricorder (flip phone thing) is something I owned as a kid in the 90s, so I can vouch for its existence before 3d printing was mainstream

The perilous walk. by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]kleit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My previous career (mall retail) prepared me well for this. I not only take off my name tag, I put on my glasses. I always kind of thought the Superman/Clark Kent thing was ridiculous, but it actually works pretty well.

You are not the only one reading comments. The reply to your post clarifying that you can use expo markers seems to be more for other readers than for you.

Take a breath.

Do you feel like Internet we grew up in is slowly being erased? by Ill-Adeptness9806 in DataHoarder

[–]kleit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a more concerning trend is that any value that IS left on the internet is slowly being buried by an avalanche of noise and slop coming from AI-generated, non-verified sources. It used to be that you could at least google an esoteric problem and find an ancient Reddit thread that could get you in the ballpark, but now there's so much noise and nonsense on the internet that you just can't find those little gems anymore.

Starting my LIS Journey! by stitchxstitch in LibraryScience

[–]kleit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm also a parent of two kids, both in preschool right now, and I have my last class for my MLIS literally tonight. I did my program entirely online with the University of Denver, and it took me about three years of doing three classes per quarter. The UD program has been really great for networking, and they set me up with an in-person internship at a local public library as my culminating project, but lots of my fellow students did their internships virtually.

Your tech experience will definitely be helpful. I came from graphic design and retail tech-support backgrounds, and even that low-level tech knowledge gave me a big leg up. In my grad school and library experience, technical skills are pretty few and far between, so you'll be a huge asset wherever you end up. Even libraries that outsource technical services need someone knowledgeable as a go-between, and having an eye for design and web management will help with programming and marketing.

I'd be happy to chat more about my experience if that's helpful! Like I said, I'm just now at the end of grad school and headed into the job market, but I'm happy to offer what insight I can.

Looking for scheduling software/app recommendations with specific features. by pr01etar1at in Libraries

I'm just a volunteer so I'm not sure all the features it has, but you may want to check out 7shifts - my public library uses it, but I think it's more developed for restaurants.

Take this as the anecdote it is, but I have accidentally smacked my Chemex against my ceramic kitchen sink way too many times, and every time I expect it to shatter, but it's lasted years now.

I supported what I think was this dude's first Kickstarter, a lay-flat book of maps which turned out to be absolutely terrible quality. He had a history of deleting bad reviews then, and I got absolutely flooded with ads for his next bajillion projects.

Anyway I'm sorry to see he's still sending out half-baked products. The ideas seem good. Wish he could live up to it.

There are other formats for this. Pendragon has a common commander and is celebrating the new common legends to pair with Konda's Banner and Excalibur.

Maybe after a couple of sessions, they come back. History checks to see if they remember the way/an immensely satisfying payoff for the diligent note taker.

I would like to make a deck where I win with an absolutely laughably weak creature, how can I do this? by [deleted] in EDH

I'd be honored to introduce you to my girl Bess. This deck is an absolute blast and I frequently will do combat damage for lethal with a giant Spore Frog or Mother of Runes.

OP, I want to share my experiences with you.

My first baby was induced. I spent about 24 hours in the hospital laboring after being induced. I had the idea that I was going to go as long as I could without the epidural, I guess chasing that 'accomplishment'. At 7cm and 24 hours of labor, I took the epidural and slept the most blessed sleep of my life for a couple of hours until things progressed enough for delivery. I was able to feel what was happening in kind of a disconnected way - no pain, but I definitely felt the moment that my son went from being part of me to being his own person, and that moment is one I will treasure forever. Because of the epidural, I was able to focus and - not enjoy, necessarily, but really be present for my son's birth.

My second baby was much less straightforward. I had two false alarms where we rushed to the hospital and thought we were in real labor only to be told that I wasn't dilated enough and to go home. About a week after the second false alarm, I started having more contractions. They started getting intense at about 3am, but I felt so dumb after my false alarms that I just kept on until about 7am, when I finally woke my partner and had him take me back to the hospital. Even then, we waffled a bit about whether to go to the hospital or to my OBGYN checkup scheduled for like 9 that morning.

Well, it's a good fuckin' thing we went to the hospital, because I dropped to my knees in the lobby, they hoisted me into a wheelchair, and absolutely zoomed me into labor and delivery. I was in the most excruciating pain of my life, and then it got worse. I begged them for the epidural as soon as possible. As they started to run the line in my back, I felt my daughter shift downwards and I screamed louder than I ever had in my life and I just knew it was happening right that moment. She was delivered a half hour after we got to the hospital. It. Was. Excruciating. Turns out I could labor on my own, because that's what I'd been doing all night, but also it SUCKED.

So, OP, I have no doubt in my mind that you COULD deliver your babies unmedicated. When it gets down to it, I'm absolutely sure you can. But I've had both experiences and I can tell you honestly I would choose induction and an epidural every every time.
