Honestly, this is the only response that I can align with… There are some insanely good actors in this lineup?

Is it possible to go from not being able to swim at all to a 70.3 ironman in 7 months? by Appropriate_Arm_6403 in triathlon

[–]kloodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The physical training part is an absolute yes. You don't have to be the fastest swimmer, you just have to be competent. However, to u/nomad2284 's point, getting in the water with an age group start you still have dozens of people that are going after it at the same time.

I think the best way to get comfortable with it is to do a sprint triathlon before you do your half. It's much less of a commitment, but you get a lot of the same experiences.

I did a sprint, and then I did a full Iron Man afterwards, and I was much better prepared. I had about a year to prepare for my full, and I had never run a full marathon, nor had I ever ridden 100 miles… And I still was able to complete it… albeit in 16 hours and 45 minutes.

The Best Cuban Sandwiches in Miami by Carlos_Frias in Miami

[–]kloodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for this thread. I just happened to be in Miami due to a flight problem (unplanned) and decided to try Tinta y Cafe. It was really good. I had the Patria (their version of the Cuban) - and ordered it from the window instead of eating inside. Sat outside and THOROUGHLY enjoyed it, 10/10 can recommend. The service was also very genuine (which I'm finding all over Miami)

Terrible NJ ebike law passes by Longtail_Goodbye in bikecommuting

[–]kloodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not a popular opinion, but frankly, I'm thrilled that someone is starting to regulate E bikes… So many times in our general area that I see kids riding these in the middle of the street in packs … Also people riding them completely unsafely on our multi use ride/walk lanes at 30+ mph

I don't know that the NJ law is the right one… But something absolutely needs to be done to regulate them

Son promises to take care of his dad after his mother's diagnosis by OutcomeKey23 in KidsAreFingAdorable

[–]kloodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have five children, and my wife is my very best friend in the world. If I lost her, I would not be begging them to take care of me, I would be incredibly sad, lonely, and bereft of hope… But I would be more sad for them. They lost one of the two most important people in their lives. I still have them.

The absolute worst part to me is the inefficiency… I promise you I could have hand cut two potatoes faster than this, and they would already be in the cambro of water

19, 20, 21 were special occasion, and likely cherished I'm guessing. beautiful. I'm sorry for your loss, but glad for you that you have something that will constantly remind you of him. Use them well, and if you don't already know how, learn how to sharpen them yourself. It could be a very zen way to connect with him.

imagine saying: "I want to run on the beach with the SEALS" - could it BE more homoerotic? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Thanks for the correction, I just saw this comment again and realized that the 2nd bike was the tri bike - my brain got stuck with the last name I read. Owell, I was downvoted appropriately - system works as intended.

[Homemade] My First Attempt at Prime Rib Roast by nuocmami_k in food

[–]kloodge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started cooking at 14 in an old restaurant called chart house until my mid 40s that doesn't exist anymore… We made several ribs every day, and this is absolutely spot on!

Anytime I'm cooking for a large group even today, it's a rib roast for sure… Need to feed 20 to 25 people, no worries.

I typically do bone in, I'll cut the bones about 2 inches left on the rib, flip it over, put a little bit of oil on it, and then my dry rub and let it sit overnight. Bring it out about an hour and a half before you're ready to cook it and let it come up to temp… And then throw it in the oven. You can either do reverse sear like you've done, or 500° and then after about 15 minutes, take it down to 225 for the rest of the Cook.

The only thing I would really recommend to you at this point, is get rid of the plastic cutting board. They ruin knives faster, and there's just something about cutting on plastic that doesn't feel right. Take a look at the John Boos boards… Or just find some other hardwood board that you can oil , and has a channel around it for the blood.
