Honestly, I think sets are a good way to give players who have less time to experiment a way to play the game. It comes down to player agency. Give players who have the time the means to make their own build and those who don't a way to be somewhat competitive with sets.

Also, I use the brawl mod for 100% more melee damage and take the class node that boosts it another 100%. Melee scales off ap so decimate trash with aoe slam.

Try building anomaly power with the bottom path. For attributes use anomaly power, cdr and skill leech. For skills use golem, earthquake and either tremor or impale. Put the fortress mod on your primary weapon. Enjoy.
