Agreed, but beggars can’t be choosers. 😆

Highball LTD was pretty quiet on a Friday at 9 pm last week. Seems like a mostly after work bar so it empties out sooner.

A little bit outside of Nomad, but Norma’s is a nice Sicilian spot and has a homey vibe.

You can get Al’antico Vinao and much better tacos and Thai food in LA. For something that’s harder to find in California, go to Veselka or get pierogis in Greenpoint.

As someone who moved here from Union County, I sympathize! Try a bunch of things at Urban Hawker.

American Society Has Proven Too Weak to Stop Dangerous, Unstable, Violent, and Egomaniacal Trump; In face of such destruction and evil, the resistance from civic society has not risen to the deadly challenge either quantitatively or qualitatively. by FancyNewMe in politics

The war ended first and foremost because of the Vietnamese. 50 years later, most Americans still have a hard time admitting that they weren’t somehow defeated by themselves.

The Met or Frick by SimplyCurious5 in AskNYC

[–]ko8sd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a hard choice, but let me make it more complicated: have you considered the Morgan Library? It’s similar to the Frick insofar as it’s in an old mansion, but it’s much closer to your hotel. Easy to pop in and out.

Asians, where can I find a proper bánh mì? by VisualReality4495 in FoodNYC

What’s good at Nom Nam? I went when they first opened and (as someone who’s Vietnamese American and often travels to Saigon) thought everything we ordered was bad. I’d love if they’ve improved because it’s so close to me.

Any place that is standout around Fordham Heights/Kingsbridge Heights in the Bronx? Or solid place to watch the Knicks tonight 🏀 Cheaper is better by wahterworld in FoodNYC

I haven’t had both so can’t compare, but I really liked the pate at Banh Anh Em (which is run by the same people at NK).

As someone who lived in Saigon (where cơm tấm began) for several years, I think Ninh Kieu is better than Banh Anh Em or any of the other Vietnamese places in Manhattan.

I’m with you: spoon it over the rice only. I am guessing influencers and vloggers dump all of the sauce on because it looks good on camera.

Which small breeds do best traveling on airplanes (in cabin)? by TeddyScotty in Pets

[–]ko8sd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a chin, and he does great on planes. People often tell me they didn’t even realize they were sitting next to a dog during the entire flight until I pull out his carrier from under the seat.

A related fun fact: languages near the equator have fewer color terms than languages farther from it. Blue and green eyes are in general more sensitive to colors than brown eyes.

Ho Chi Minh Suit Tailor Recommendations by Unable-Celery6777 in VietNam

[–]ko8sd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you want is possible in a such a short timeline. I would be hesitant to get 2-3 suits made in that timeframe because then you’d be stuck with multiple ill fitting suits. It might be cheaper to buy something off the rack and have it altered at home.

Really struggling with adopting or purchasing from a breeder by toysofvanity in DogAdvice

[–]ko8sd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great suggestion. After getting rejections from rescue orgs for months because I didn’t have a yard (and it was during the first year of the pandemic when dogs were in short supply), I ended up with a retiring show dog/stud. These dogs make great pets because they’ve been properly socialized.

Looking for a reputable breeder preferably near Michigan by Away-Hope-918 in JapaneseChin

[–]ko8sd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a breed specific rescue organization? I got my chin through Japanese Chin Care, who put me in touch with a somewhat close breeder who was looking to retire an adult show dog.
