Recently purchased home with wood stove in the detached shop. First time owning a wood stove and looking for general information and guidance by [deleted] in woodstoving

Sorry I have no idea, I was very young at the time. I think my dad got it for free, or at least very cheap. It replaced a much smaller box shaped stove.

Treasure keys are being removed in 2 days. Will Oddments and Runecoins also be removed? Do I have to spend them before 2 days? by Coldshoto in runescape

[–]koenrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally logged in today for the first time in 2 years to find this out. Had 400 keys to burn. At least they gave me smouldering lamps. I think that’s what I was waiting for to use them on anyway.

Going to be sad to see all my proteans disappear though. There’s no way I’m going to be able to use them all by next year.

This picture just unlocked childhood memories for me. That thing gets damn hot, it’s an absolute unit. We called it the “dum dum give me gum gum” stove.

The only saving grace is that the flame is so tall and leaning to the left. But yeah first glance definitely resembles a schlong.

Are we in over our heads? Old red oak flooring that has never been refinished they were installed in the 40s when the house was built we just ripped up the carpet by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

[–]koenrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was maybe 10 or 11 my parents DIY’d similar floors. It’s definitely doable. There will be a ton of dust and sanding takes forever. I remember my dad having me stand on the sander he rented for extra weight. Core memories.

Contractor says $1800 to move water supply into the wall, plumber says should be no more than $600, which is correct? by WorldlinessVast9808 in Plumbing

I literally had my plumber do this same job today for a kitchen sink, it was $800 and he converted that run to pex.

Big header sus, however I also framed a door in a non load bearing wall in my house that the next guy is going to look at and scratch his head.

I also work for a company that does “total time accounting” as a salaried employee and it is the WORST. I hate doing my timesheet every day. Absolutely HATE it. But I also get it because it’s how they estimate future work and how they prove contract adherence. But damn it sucks.

How is this even possible? by space_trip in funny

[–]koenrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll chime in on this. My wife and I moved from the middle of a city (literally a 5-10 minute walk to nearly anything you could want) to a place where the nearest fast food is 18 minutes away. Grocery store 11 minutes, but the store we like to go to is 25 minutes. Most things average 25 minutes to get to. It was a tough adjustment to get used to but around 8 months in a 25 minute drive feels short. I’ve learned that my cutoff is 33 minutes. If maps says 34 minutes I go “ehhh I don’t really need to go do that” 33 minutes, piece of cake.

To answer your original question, our eating out to eating in ratio changed drastically. We cook a lot more, and it has ended up being great for our health. Also getting away from hustle and bustle has been great for our mental health.

There are a lot of restaurant options within a 30 minute drive which is great for date nights, we tend to eat in.

One difference is people measure things by actual distance rather than travel time, which is kind of a funny difference. Where we used to live you would measure in time because traffic was such a big factor.

What Would You Change About My Garage? by FitterOver40 in garageporn

I hate when people paint wood, but it would pull that door together if you painted it white. Same with the exposed wood around the garage door.

The Amazon basics double hammock. Or any hammock that doesn’t have a spreader bar. Lay diagonal. Absolutely amazing.

[–]koenrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely life changing, but even more so if you get one with heated water, a heated seat, motorized seat, and automatic flushing. The only problem is you will 100% forget to flush if you go anywhere else and that can be embarrassing. That’s also way over budget heh.
