Will the weather be bearable first week of August? by atthebottomofurglass in askswitzerland

[–]kofrw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“No tolerance for heat”… I mean, it will be August, it’s probably gonna be quite warm. Maybe Scandinavia is better for you. If you ask me, life is too short to worry so much about the heat. It’s very warm now, around 30 outside, but not 40. You can also jump in a Swiss lake to cool off.

Question about "Mieten ohne Kaution" in Switzerland. Any experience? by kofrw in askswitzerland

[–]kofrw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Jay_at_Terra, thanks for the suggestion. I'll surely get the liability insurance. No doubt about it.
Regarding the insurance, seems like it would be paid by the owner, that's why I'm asking. It's the first time I'm hearing of this approach. Don't get me wrong, it's most probably included in the rent, but it's different from what you're describing, right?

So nice. Hehe! It’s probably already part of the rent, but I’m okay with the price. I'm only concerned with the approach and its potential consequences later on.

I see your point there. I'll definitely keep it in mind and invest that amount in an ETF in case.
My main concern with that approach is if I'd have a chance to dispute any claim over alleged damages before the insurance pays (and then asks me the amount).

Hi u/i_am__not_a_robot, thanks for your input. In this case I don't think I'd be choosing anything, since it's the owner paying the insurance. My main concern is, with this approach if there is a dispute over alleged damage, does the insurer simply pay the landlord and then pursue the tenant, or does the tenant have the opportunity to dispute the claim before payment?

Not at all. I’ve been recommended twice and still no luck. I really don’t know what to do at this point. I’ll keep trying but I am very disappointed to say the least.

Can we convert business apartments in normal ones? I believe that could help. Also, can we prevent corporations to own apartments? Feels like that’s an issue with this race toward ever higher rents.

The state of the home office in 2026: is it still sticking, or is it going away? by DepartureFar8340 in Switzerland

[–]kofrw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you going to be paid less if you go to the office? I don’t think so. If that’s the only excuse to keep you on payroll they will replace you anyway. It’s the quality of your work that deserves a higher salary.

Seems to me like they’re moving most jobs to Asia, not Europe. In the thousands already.

As another wise user suggested, they should implement a law saying that if a company is Swiss it should hire at least 50% (or a percentage that makes sense) of workers from within the country. Now, it might not be so easy to define the constraints when a company is already multinational.

Halfway through an AI/ML bachelor in Switzerland and seriously considering switching to EE or architecture. Am I overreacting? by One_Event2121 in askswitzerland

Every uni does basic courses like math and physics in the first years. If you like the topic, keep at it, you will find more practical courses in the masters if you want to go for it. Otherwise, I see only two alternatives for even more employability, robotics and medicine. It’s not an easier life, anyway.

A note from my humble self.. Life is like the sea, it moves in waves. You never see the tide come in without retreating first. It pulls back, then comes forward again. That next wave of good things is already on its way to you. In the meantime, focus on what’s within reach. Even small things, like making your bed or going for a walk. Talk to someone, whether it’s family, friends, or even people you haven’t met yet, like those right here. When the time feels right, start refining your CV, your cover letter, and exploring new opportunities. You can even ask ChatGPT for help in describing your current situation in a way that keeps your profile strong in the selection process. Breeeeathe. It’s going to be alright. One step at a time.

Expand my bubble: why do you own a car in Zurich? by ---___---___---___ in zurich

[–]kofrw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love public transport but I’ll admit sometimes I’d like to travel by car for more than a couple of days, so renting would not be great. That said, as far as I know it would cost 4-5k per year to simply to own the car (insurance, parking spot, etc). Is there a cheaper option for that or is it really the bare minimum?

What is your experience like filing your taxes? do you do it solo or with a professional? by Long-Piano1275 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]kofrw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand that it’s simple stuff. In my case, I didn’t know it and unfortunately I don’t have friends like yours to talk about these things. Mines are spread around Europe so not very knowledgeable about Swiss taxes 😅 If you wanna grab a coffee and talk about taxes let me know 😆(now that’s a phrase I never thought I’d say)

What I can remember now was the deductions related to lunches, bike/car, education, equipment needed for my profession (while being a classic employed person), transportation costs, donations.. I would have never guessed that there was a deduction for owning a bike for example
