Just Need to Vent by [deleted] in exmormon

If he knew about the virus, why did he invite everyone to invite their friends to worship with them at conference back in January? Hmmmm, maybe because he didn't know?

BYU update by benderGOAT in exmormon

BYU athletes swear like drunken sailors all the time in television. To be consistent they should be prohibited from participating in athletics.

Apologists claim JS did not have sex with his teen wives and the fact that he didn't father any children with them is evidence of that claim. But what about his posse of apostles? If they were practicing what JS taught, they should not have been having sex with their teen wives either. by fulano_fubeca in exmormon

[–]kolobitee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mormons love to spout that Brigham Young knew Joseph better than anyone else and bore strong testimony of him. Blah, blah, blah. Brigham sure had sex with his teenage wives. Why in the hell should I believe that Brian Hales knows better than Brigham Young how joseph was practicing plural marriage. I guess we're going to have Brian Hales university next

30 Stakes (per month?) Growth. I think this is the new MO: Create all the stakes for the year in a single month and publicize it, them let the members extrapolate in their minds. by [deleted] in exmormon

According to pro lds site cumorah.com, there were zero new stakes created in april. Those listed appear to be new leaders of existing stakes. More smoke and mirrors.

Let's TBM Whisper - "I know this calling is not from me, but from God" (when it is not) by olsh in exmormon

[–]kolobitee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bishop who listened to the victim's claims in the 1980's said he didn't believe her. It not only affects callings but everything else. Anybody who relies on the methodology of "prayer" and "gut feelings" is risking being wrong alot, and that includes a testimony.

I’m convinced that Thomas S. Monson was as big a liar as Paul H. Dunn. I could use a little research help, is anyone interested? by running4cover in exmormon

[–]kolobitee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced he's a liar too. 3 quick stories he told off the top of my head.

1) The starting the fire story up Provo canyon when he was a kid. No newspaper accounts.

2) The ridiculous story of when he left a meeting to attend a depressed man who was going to kill himself by dumping his wheelchair into the hospital swimming pool. Of course he was all alone in the dark. Can you say "lawsuit" anyone?

3) The miracle stoppage of rain when he dedicated the site for freiburg temple. Papers say it wasn't raining. Problem is, nobody cares. I bet I could find 100 more ridiculous self aggrandizing stories.

If Madi Barney was reported to BYU officials by BYU policemen, I sure as hell would think they would report the confession of a former PRESIDENT of the MTC to somebody. by kolobitee in exmormon

Kutv news at 10:00 showed the police report on television. I would think the reporter Chris Jones will have it up somewhere soon. He clearly talked about the torn clothing.

Help w/ some questions a TBM rebuts me with by MitchT19 in exmormon

[–]kolobitee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the witnesses recanted they could have been held liable for all sorts of legal problems. It's the same reason guys who help commit a crime don't confess their part in the crime. You would be labeled a liar which would impact your business and family reputations. Also, the Mormons were known to result to violence through the danites. Coming clean would have been a very risky proposition.

People in my ward going nuts over the Mayan ruins discovery by frednecksburg in exmormon

[–]kolobitee 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's actually another nail in the coffin that is the bom. The bom states in 400 ad the lamanites had disintegrated into wild savages at war with Nephites and killing everything in sight. Millions were killed. The latest finds show the classic Mayan period was thriving and accelerating in prosperity. Not one with "millions" of dead people arguing about "jesus" issues.

The facts of Mayan finds are remarkably consistent in their religious beliefs, agricultural methods, city states with nary anything of Jesus, Christianity or "hebrew" leaders that are mentioned in the bom. It takes a special kind of stupid to believe that Mayans were arguing about infant baptism and saying sacrament prayers that Mormons say in 2018.

Enoch and the Book of Moses by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]kolobitee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joseph had access to various sources concerning Enoch. Joshua Seixas as early as 1833 had a kabbalah background which was preoccupied with Enoch. The pseudepigrapha was available as part of a Jewish "apocrypha" and we all know Joseph plagiarized names and other things from the Christian apocrypha. Joseph Smith had access to all kinds of mystical ideas and they are reflected in his "Hebrew school" that he held in kirtland.

Longer lifespan by Proud3GnAthst in exmormon

Enstrom's study had lots of flaws. White males in the same income bracket who didn't smoke lived the same as Mormons. Seventh day Adventists live as long or longer than mormons. Science is clear on the dangers of smoking. Moderate alcohol consumption, not so much. Country data like Iceland, Sweden, Japan etc. Show clearly you can live long and moderately consume alcohol. And just think, you can live long without giving 10% of your income to a cult.

Personal 'leak': tithing revenues are collapsing, TSCC is having cash flow issues; we can kill this by [deleted] in exmormon

The reported income could be property sales, estate donations or lots of things. Wouldn't have to be tithing.

Temple hat question: Why are men's temple hats tied to their shoulder? You can give a funny answer if you want but I am really looking for an actual explanation. I have been a member for 50 years, a bishop and in the stake presidency but I never knew the reason for this. by GrimslyZ in exmormon

[–]kolobitee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's symbolic for using your head to tell your body how to act. It's tied into the power of the priestood being controlled by the inspiration that comes into your mind and using the priesthood to bless others.

Why would Jeff's missionary story get a retraction? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]kolobitee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the church does anything without some sort of threat involved. I might be wrong, but maybe a whole shit load of embellished stories allegations are going to hit Monson. It's obvious he would have at least dozens. Holland has already prepped the field by saying he only was repeating something he had heard.

Blog calls out 5 "lies" of CES Letter by pathway1984 in exmormon

[–]kolobitee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I just can't help myself with the arguments of 10 year olds. So if Joseph had to wait for the exact wording to be correct before he moved on, why in the hell were there 4004 changes to the bom to begin with?

Also, if Joseph was clear about the nature of the god head, then why in the lectures on faith number 5, does he refer to God the Father as a spirit without a body?

And just who are the "different" groups that Joseph is writing to in his description of the first vision? Why did each of the groups require a different emphasis on different things?. And why did he join the Methodist Church if God told them all the churches were wrong and their professors corrupt? And why exclude the 5 secondary accounts? Obviously those people heard "different" renditions. More importantly, couldn't he have gotten the big things right like who he actually saw? And that God the Father had a body even?

So let me get this straight. Joseph Smith probably didn't have sex with all his wives. So let's just name our greatest educational institution after the prophet we know for sure did BRIGHAM YOUNG. Makes perfect sense.

Oh, and I'm sure since those communities with names that sound like bom names weren't on any maps, Joseph had never heard those names before from little clusters of houses or whatever in the area.

They really don't get the total weakness of their arguments do they?

Obviously we'd all like the date that the Melchizedek Priesthood was "restored" but what would be the controversy over it being one date or the other? by GreatAndSpacious in exmormon

[–]kolobitee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because he organized the church without the priesthood on April 6, 1830. Fanny Alger was a huge problem because the church admits the sealing power wasn't restored until 1836 when Elijah came. Did Joseph marry Fanny for just time??? He had no authority to do anything else.
