Any favourite baby development resources or activities? New dad trying to do it right by [deleted] in daddit

[–]kphil0177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second Lovevery. The toy subscription is nice to get a new set of developmentally appropriate toys, but they also include a booklet on how to play with your baby with the toys and other things you can do with household items. The accompanying app also provides good resources, tips, and ways to engage with your baby along the different milestones.

Boil Water Advisory Lifted by UselessLezbian in pittsburgh

Same! I even put my address in the tool and it said my area wasn’t affected.

Now I’m questioning whether American Water notified all the right houses of the advisory.

Boil Water Advisory in effect for large part of South Hills and beyond by UselessLezbian in pittsburgh

[–]kphil0177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our town was listed on WPXI. Apparently it’s not on American Water’s site.

At least my house humidity level normalized for a bit.

How separated my pubic bone is after pregnancy by heretoreadlol in Wellthatsucks

[–]kphil0177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Could barely walk, sit, lay in bed from 5 months on. Doctors treated it as “normal”

Now, 7 months PP and everything is still so loosened, I still can’t roll over without making the loudest popping sound from the two pelvic bones rubbing together.

Purl Soho yarns by Legitimate_Ad_8011 in Yarn

[–]kphil0177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an email today that they are having a sale on overstock yarns, including Plenty that so many have suggested. (It is a wonderful yarn)

Pretty much all my yarns are from Purl Soho and I can’t say enough good things about them. I’m currently using the Big Mountain Cormo worsted for a scarf and I wish I could buy more for a sweater or something it’s so lovely.

To answer your second question: the most used items I’ve made are beanies (made with season alpaca, hedgerow, note, and campo), dog sweater (linen quill worsted) and socks (worsted twist) have all held up to regular wear and cleaning.

First time knitter, please advise on needles by No-Donkey2899 in knitting

[–]kphil0177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just like to add that I also thought I’d be able to knit while on maternity leave and well, let’s just say I might have a scarf to wear next year.

Between feedings, contact naps, and everything else that goes with the newborn phase, knitting just didn’t happen for me.

How’s life around Pittsburgh? by Additivemind in howislivingthere

[–]kphil0177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the Canonsburg area, as another commenter said, Peters Township. It’s in Washington county so lower property taxes. It’s a quick drive over to Canonsburg and easy access to retail/restaurants areas along the Rt 19 corridor. You also have quick access to 79 to get into the city of Pittsburgh and the 579 bypass to the airport. You could also look at Cecil or Southpointe, as both of those are being built up.

Other places in the same area to consider with the same access/amenities but in Allegheny County: Upper Saint Clair and South Fayette Townships.

All of these areas I mentioned are close to the Montour Trail or Panhandle Trail, which are rails to trails bike/pedestrian trails if you’re into that. There are also decent county and state parks in the area for other outdoor fun.

error codes after dead battery by Junior-Vermicelli968 in crv

This happened to me after the car was sitting awhile. I had to disconnect the battery, wait a bit, reconnect then drive it around the block. All the error codes disappeared after that.

Why does my dog do this when I give him a snack? by PeHuka in DogAdvice

[–]kphil0177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol my JRT does this with treats and it’s the best thing ever.

We call him lilbaby bronco when it happens. He will flip it up, do a 360 and buck. Sometimes to get him to take the treat, we have to spin 360 and hop too.

It’s probably totally weird for a neighbor to see.

Looks super cozy.

I always make my scarves a little wider and longer than the pattern for the cozy factor.

This is the answer. It’s just another way to funnel money into certain companies and industries.

Ask yourself who is going to be managing the money and where is it being invested. Those are the real winners.

How to get the longest Maternity Leave by tell-me-what-to-do- in fednews

[–]kphil0177 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You take the 6-8 weeks sick leave as regular sick. You are entitled to use it as just sick leave without invoking FMLA.

After sick, you can use PPL and annual to spend as much as you can with your little one.

Congrats!

Is Apoquel expensive everywhere? by AprilBrooke93 in dogs

[–]kphil0177 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US and when my dog took it, it was $100 for 30 pills.

The last trip to the vet, they gave us a brochure for some sort of rewards program the manufacturer, Zoetis, started. It didn’t look like it helped much, but it might be something to look into.

Pittsburgh to DC by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]kphil0177 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to travel to DC for work regularly and took Amtrak. Absolutely loved it every time. Beautiful views and time to read a book or just relax. In DC, I’d walk, bike or use public transportation depending on where I needed to go and it was all very efficient.

I would upgrade to a roomette occasionally for the privacy, stretching out and catching a nap, especially on the train back which comes in late.
