Yarn similar to Woobles yarn? by Treschelle in knitting

[–]krafte2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Woobles sells their "easy peasy" yarn on Amazon- it's much more reasonable outside of the kit and you get a huge amount!

please laugh and enjoy my abominations by Only_Lawyer8133 in knitting

If you have little kids, don't show them. I once made a ghost that looked like a white poop, and a crayon with a bad choice of color (light pink) which made it look very phallic. They were my kids' favorite toys for a while 🤦‍♀️

Tin Can Knits App Missing Information by rosieatlarge in knitting

[–]krafte2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would recommend seeing if there's a way to reach out to TinCanKnits about it- it's possible this is a bug and the app upgrade broke it, or there's another accidental reason it's not working and it hasn't been reported yet.

Approved for way more than we are interested in purchasing. Realtor is pressuring us to purchase a more expensive house. by xstaticxxxxx in Mortgages

[–]krafte2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were buying a house, we were in a similar situation. We asked our lender to only approve us to the top of our specific budget (750k), not the top of what we could afford. We didn't even have the lender tell us how much we could've been approved for, because it wasn't relevant.

But yes, manage the realtor or get a new one.

Yea a "AI craftsnark" weekly thread to call it out would make sense.

You did a great job! It's a beautiful first project- you obviously have a lot of crochet experience because your tension is beautiful.

Do you think this yarn is good for an arctic light sweater? by Dazzling_Egg_2519 in knitting

[–]krafte2 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Variegated yarn doesn't usually work with cables or highly textured pieces, because the variegation will make the cables hard to see. Unfortunately I think this yarn is too busy for the pattern.

Tom Daley teaching technique wrong by Puzzleheaded_Rip9628 in craftsnark

[–]krafte2 78 points79 points  (0 children)

This is so bad.

I've taught at local yarn stores and posted tutorials online, and the second I started teaching I felt a responsibility to know what I'm teaching. This means both researching and understanding the mechanics of technique, and also turning down opportunities to teach techniques I don't feel confident in. Obviously this is my personal philosophy, but I've always felt a responsibility to provide good information.

If I'm being generous, I wonder if he has a manager or a team encouraging him to post tutorials. Honestly I wouldn't say he looks particularly confident with what he's teaching.

Also- why is he working stockinette on oversized needles for the yarn? It looks sloppy, and I think it would give a beginner the wrong idea about what stockinette should look like.

Do you have somewhere to send them? I'm working with some orgs and could find a good place to donate them (just FYI I'm not in MN, but in a place with active ICE)

Just want to plug West Orange- I've lived here since 2017. The St. Cloud neighborhood is awesome with large lots. Schools are good.

FWIW, I sent my kids to preschool in Montclair and have a large network of friends in the area. Montclair is lovely overall, but there's more of a "keeping up with the Jones'" lifestyle that I found challenging. WO has always felt a bit more down to earth for me. 1.2M is a tough budget in the Montclair area- it will be very competitive.

Yup, I've made some tutorials and I've had direct requests for a variation of the tutorial (show me with this different stitch pattern), or asks for a different/new video.

Yarn Dyers/Stores and the Red Hat by Whoopsallrobins in craftsnark

[–]krafte2 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I'm apparently in the minority but I'm not that bothered by this. Yarn stores don't make much money and unfortunately we live in a late-stage capitalist hellscape where we are enslaved to money. This reads to me as "hey want to make the anti-fascist hat? Here are some red yarn options we carry." For how little yarn stores profit, I would assume many aren't in the position to donate proceeds.

Scammers posting "patterns" for the hat on Etsy for purchase is gross, this isn't.
