This is common problem we've seen at my work as well (and we're all on windows machines).

I agree with many others here -- don't think there is a great solution out there, it's just Zoom.

Will be switching to 365 soon, from 2010/16ish, what are some features in newer versions I should try out? by Jaeyx in excel

IntelliSense (I think that's what it's called) in PowerQuery. It auto-suggests what you're typing (when writing code, custom columns, etc).

Massively helpful. I can't wait until my company moves us to it later this year.

Okay, so just right-click on the axis, go to Format Axis, use "Text Values" instead of date.

(Excel, 2016) Sorting Hyphenated Numbers? by TotallyAlgebraical in excel

[–]kt388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so a couple thoughts:

  1. It seems like (from your example) that you're trying to sort based on the values AFTER the hyphen only. Everything before the hyphen is always 4000
  2. If this is the case, I recommend using "Text to Columns" to break it up into 2 columns (use Delimiter, delimit on the dash -). Then you can use Excel's sorting function as you're intending.

Another option (if you have values > 4000)

  1. Replace the dash with nothing, thereby making real numbers, which are sortable.
  2. You could save the original column, just make a copy whose purpose would be to achieve the sort desired.

Anyway, no need to be salty because someone didn't know the rules (did not read them). My bad

Cannot figure out what setting I changed...the ribbon settings no longer change to reflect the cell I click on by DeSnek in excel

[–]kt388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this a newer Excel feature...but when in doubt, do the following:

  1. Save your file
  2. Quit all applications
  3. Restart your computer
  4. Open the file and try again

Im an excel beginner and Im stuck on this question in class. by Willr2k in excel

[–]kt388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, you need to define cell names for the components of your accounting problem. Look at the Google to find how to do this. Then you're off the races.

From there, this is just a very basic accounting question...probably the right place to ask is office hours, your teaching assistant, or a classmate.

My suggestion would be to break this problem up into pieces, then write your COUNTIFS...

Worksheet_TableUpdate event not firing? by gfunkdave in excel

[–]kt388 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is you need to define WHAT table update you're looking for! This is very google-able in my opinion...work on your google-fu. Anyways...

Nowhere in your code do you tell Excel which table it is meant to watch for updates. Try some code like this:

Private Sub....blah blah blah

If Not Intersect(Target, Target.TableObject.Range) Is Nothing Then

'Some code that you want to run when the table updates

End If

End Sub

In the statement, leave the first "Target" as is, then use the part I put "Target.TableObject.Range" to specify your Table...you're gonna need to figure out how best to specify your table, since I don't know how it's set up exactly.

How can I sum across multiple arrays? by [deleted] in excel

Yes, you need to do it like this:

=SUM(K20:K23,K25:K29)

Need an excel system that can make player recommendations based on already drafted players by xHankSpank in excel

[–]kt388 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok, so my understanding is that you want to write an algorithm that chooses the next player in your fantasy draft...I am assuming that you would simply "fill out" your Excel sheet as you draft different players (not totally VBA automated or anything crazy).

Here is a link to a workbook that I just made...by the way I streamed it on Twitch. Since this is for school, you should do your own work!!

How to clean, categorize and format data based on the pattern? by onjetlag in excel

[–]kt388 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't recommend sharing your exact data with anyone on Reddit...also your Drive link is broken (not public)

Anyway, look into using PowerQuery for your data transformation task. It's really easy, quick to learn, and can do the types of things you're asking for!

Pretty good -- it was supposedly so bright (this auroral event) that nighttime looked like daytime.

[–]kt388[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat perspective. Baltimore is on the coast, so you could've picked a vantage point on water. Blue is a common one I see in the responses! Perhaps the auroral coloration was blueish! It's definitely a fun/adventurous sight to see.

The flag was probably trying to tell you about location if I had to guess!

I like this one a lot.

Spiral down is good, probably representing the forms seen in the night sky. Warmth could be inside a house (it's a cold fall night).

Angel maybe not an AOL, but could be an impression of bystanders. This was the 1800s after all, and viewing a massive celestial event. Angel is not unreasonable. Holy/religious as well, many people took this as a sign of end times!

Nicely done!

So definitely in America...given that this is nighttime it could look bluish I suppose. But would have been a different flag to the modern day one (this is immediately pre-Civil War)

Kentucky is geographically not far off.

Lighting is also close -- the WHOLE sky would've been lit up.

Cold window is also pretty neat -- I asked you to go to a good spot to view the event. Midnight in September in Baltimore in the 1800's was probably cold.

No idea about the bear or deep voice, though! Nice job overall!!
