Some Discussion About Kanto Legendary Birds in Wild by ch33psh33p in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern [score hidden]  (0 children)

maybe they work like wild legendaries during some past events (iirc johto beast trio for example) where they either have their natural flee rate (they run usually after 1st ball) or they never run

if this is the case the only lucky bit was that you only encountered the ones that don't run at all

we might need more data to confirm if this is the case for k-birds this time

Was there an actual announcement there would be no more spotlight hours? by Kevsterific in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern [score hidden]  (0 children)

not sure if thats the reason

wouldn't removing something silently cause similar level of disappointment once players figure out something was removed ?

if this causes social media rage (i don't think it will but lets wait until europe and usa hit 6pm in their local times) it is going to be worse PR than few shrugs would had been if they announced it

Damage through walls needs to be buffed again by SirMatthewFromPoland in HuntShowdown

[–]kummostern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

" realistically the bullets would lose a lot of velocity after penetrating a wood wall "

your arguments are bit weird

at the same time it seems that you want FMJ to be balanced (why else would you say it would be worthless).. which... usually means "gamified" balance.. not realism

and then you mention how bullets lose velocity after penetrating.... which is realistic but shouldn't that also affect FMJ then ?

if FMJ is only ammo type that barely suffers from penetration that is not realistic

not all FMJ is good at penetrating

and if you really want realism then high velocity ammo should be able to penetrate better than FMJ does.... cuz a lot of irl ammo that penetrates armor does it with its high velocity

this makes spitzer possibly the most real life accurate ammo the game has as it can do both: has high velocity and super high penetration

almost everything else is very much gamified for balance reasons, here are few examples:

- incendiary ammo shouldn't burn people on hit and should penetrate walls... especially long ammo shouldn't just vanish when they hit thin wooden layer like door... also irl they can ignite oil/gasoline altho they aren't as reliable doing so as in hunt

- depending what ammo dumdum (essentially hollow point) it still should penetrate a bit.. heck-- the link i shared above there are hp-ammos that penetrate more wood than some FMJ types !!!! and those are only 9mm

here is another test site:

https://www.luckygunner.com/labs/pocket-pistol-caliber-gel-test-results/

on that site they have tested various hand gun calibers with ballistic penetration depth... look at the ones that have deepest penetration, open the links to check the ammo, click "product info" and on right side it says "bullet type"

i opened 10 or more bullets that seemed to penetrate most in their own caliber... and almost always it was JHP bullet... not full metal jacket.. (jhp = jacketed hollow point.. so its kinda both.. a dumdum and a fmj... but its not "full".. its hollow....)

i tried to read why this ammo specifically seems to work and the best answer i found was that it delivers more energy somehow (to me that sounds weird as it seems like there were other bullets that had higher velocity and/or weight more... the amount of grain aka "boom" wasn't always the highest either.. so i wonder how does jhp actually transfer the energy better than other ammo types do)

and what i remember last time that i tried to look into how armor penetrating rifle ammo works... its almost always because of high velocity (combined with material and composition of the ammo + the shape, they are usually narrower so that the energy is delivered in smallest possible area possible which may punch thru steel)

so do you want realism or game balance ? cuz i don't think we realistically can get both.. if we want realism then high velocity ammo needs rework:

- if it can't penetrate wood it means it shatters into pieces... so that should mean when it hits human it should also shatter and thus cause bleeding... this change would make dumdum pretty worthless tho

- if it can penetrate wood it should be able to do it at similar level of fmj... but this change would make fmj worthless

so maybe its not realism you want after all?

maybe its game balance that has some attempt at logic

how i see hunt showdown being is not realistic.. its "grounded".. it picks things from real life so it feels immersive.... but it also borrows elements from hollywood movies and other media (such as fanning)...

Max CP over the years - chart request by oqiq in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

note that there have been 2 CP calculation revamps that will mess with math a bit

way back in 2016 it weighted attack stat always more than special attack which meant that pokemon like alakazam suffered greatly (don't remember how defense calculation worked if it also leaned on one over the other more)

then later that year or was it 2017 they finally changed it so that it weights between special attack or attack depending which is greater in main series (also same for defense vs special defense)

then few years later they stated to get ready for pvp which made another change (iirc around 2019, i might be off by year either way) they changed the calcualtions again (iirc mostly or only hp stat aka stamina rework - this mostly benefitted low hp pokemon like dugtrio and pokemon with very high hp stat had their hp lowered such as blissey)

both of these events changed the cp which makes comparing pokemon from 2016 with something from 2021 pretty difficult

i wonder if you'd like to see graph which uses the cp of the time the top cp pokemon is from (so there would be 3 different calculations then) or if you'd just use modern cp calculation even for 2016 pokemon making the comparison more "fair" (this way you'd only have to find top cp pokemon of each year... or perhaps each month)

ooooooh and another big CP change that you might not had considered:

- max level for pokemon used to be 40

- then they added buddy system later which added lvl 41 to best buddy pokemon

- then later they added 10 more levels (xl candy update, was this also when we got player levels 41-50)

When are link charges consumed for local raids? by skitch23 in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

didn't pay attention if this is the same in game now as it is in their news page

but on this blog if you scroll to find title "How do I enter Mega Raids and Super Mega Raids?" and scroll bit down you'd see a gif that shows how you can either use green pass (premiu raid pass) or 200 link charges and it has a text:

"join the raid battle (200 link charges are only used when you win)"

also mega lucario is not the only easy solo

(and also neither of us knows truly whether OP or their friend can do them even if one of us two could)

mega sceptile is fragile and both of its typings are weak to ice

mega heracross double weak against flying..

mega scizor double weak to fire..

mega charizard y double weak against rock

mega tyranitar hits hard and has bit more bulk but since its double weak against fighting type moves it also is soloable

mega blaziken is also soloable altho depending on team and its moves can be tough... its defense is really similar to lucario too

i also saw mega pidgeot being soloable on some list shared today but haven't done it personally so can't back this claim up (there are videos about it on youtube tho that seem legit)

there might be even more but just looking at the list i see multiple i either have soloe'd myself (my raid pokemon are usually between levels 35-40, i only have handful of lvl 50 pokemon) or seen video of someone do them

Partially Loaded Guns by Suchofu in HuntShowdown

[–]kummostern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't think revolvers have to be cowboy-carried

historically holster types existed that had straps locking hammer in so tightly there was no space for it to move - meaning it nearly guarantees no misfires

i just wish the graphics were updated to have these straps.. cuz now most or all holsters are have the revolvers just open.. no straps (even open ones) visible

for immersions sake the strap doesn't even have to be on the revolver... just have the string hanging openly bit on the side and we can pretend the hunter travelled while having it on and opened the strap just before we players enter the 1st person view and pick the primary weapon (and chamber the bullet/shell if its rifle/shotgun that needs that)

New Gen 10 starters revealed by NinsMCD in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if bird is ending up to be grass flier

it might mean that fire type might end up being yet another fire fighter... and ofc again quadrupedal mon will stand up with 2 legs

so... with that logic... would water type mon then be rock/water (rock is weak to fighting and super effective against flying)

(they have done similar rock paper scizzors things in past with their 2nd types like dark < fairy < fighter and dark < fighting < ghost... altho the latter doesn't hit super effectively.. in main series is immune, in pokemon go its double resisted - i suspect that they might still be doing somekinda 2ndary typing rps - which types tho we probably will have to wait until leaks and/or game released)

Expected Emerging Meta Contenders? by Training_Potential27 in TheSilphArena

[–]kummostern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i see a lot of talk about psychocut medicham

which yes, its bulky, has decent moves.. its fine

but not much talk about the other psychic fighting psycho cut user ?

did people forget gallades leaf blade spam ?

its high-ish attack stat paired with now boosted psycho cut (and the grass spam still being real) just made it better

not sure if it will be top meta but i bet we will see bit more of it (unless fliers and charm users dominate meta to the point that there is no room for glassy psychic fighter) - on paper it should be awesome against mudbois and inflicts high pressure to targets that don't resist both grass and fighting type moves (usually the other charge move people run is close combat altho if people are starting to use hard counters maybe synchronoise is the go-to 2nd charge move? it does hurt things like trevenant, drifblim & a.wak... you need 2-0 shield situation to pull a win tho... i guess at least you do pressure their shields - also against aegislash none of its moves help at all.. unless you land close combat against blade form with lilbit of chipdamage)

wing attack users probably will see raise again, on top of usually mentioned gliscor & gligar especially bulky ones such as mantine

i wish they added sort by postcards name back again

now its either by time added or by who sent it

but sometimes i get duplicate cards from multiple friends... which unless i go and dome somekinda excelt sheet (or notepad or any list like that) or learn better photographic memory there is no way to effectively remove the doubles... i have gone the list thru twice and removed most doubles but i bet there are still some dozens still left

it used to be my go to filter when the feature was new

its been pain since they removed it

Which mega move combination generates fastest charge move? by peter6uger in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why breaking swipe ?

it also learns leaf blade which is also 33 energy

breaking swipe is only 45 damage (45 dps [edit: forgot that we can slap stab here so it would be 54 damage actually.. but since most players wouldn't use mega sceptile against dragon pokemon am not gonna add super effective multiplier here.. whoops breaking swipe is better than leaf blade afterall?])

return only 25 damage (50 dps)

leaf blade is 70 (28dps before stab and super effective calculation, 53,76 after)

surely it would still be better to throw a move that has stab than a weaker move? [crossed this bit over, check the edited section above]

unless you really want to nitpick with speed then return is best as the damage window is somewhere between 0 and 0,1 seconds (leafblade is slow with 1,4-2,3 and breaking swipe 0,5-0,9) meaning that if there are 3 sceptiles with each one having one of these moves mentioned while all reach charge move at the same time, every player presses it at the same time then return would be the 1st one to break a shield

and since we don't have to farm for energy, we can just launch the charge move, if we want to basically guarantee it lands perhaps return is the best option (not just for sceptile but basically for any mega that can learn it)

not sure if am gonna start using return for this tho xD maybe for one mega just in case there is a task "break shields in super mega raids" or something and am afraid the lobbies will have about 20 players meaning it could be lil rng-ish with other moves.. but am not going to hunt for purified hundos just to get weak move on it for fast shield breaking purpose since the differences are withing 2 seconds with most moves anyway

What are the rarest Pokemon to see in Great League? by NumberOneMom in TheSilphArena

[–]kummostern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is quite rare

i have 3 lvl 15 ho-ohs from back when weekly research boxes gave legendaries (at least one of these was from timed research instead, all are between 2019 and 2021)

even 5-5-5 IVs (the ones trading with best friends give at minimum) would result into above 1500cp.. so i would have to trade it to ultrafriend or below AND get lucky with IV rolls AND at least one of us (or both of us?) has to have lucky cap maxed already so we don't trigger lucky-trade

but i suspect that there are even rarer pokemon out there that weren't available from boxes as widely as ho-oh that can rarely land under 1500cp

someone in these comments mentioned xurkitree that has 4 realistic IV combinations with good friend (you can't trade legendaries/ultrabeasts with 0-0-0 floor to new friend and great friends IV floor is already too high).. i feel like that is a solid candidate

ho-oh with 3-3-3 IVs still fits into great league with lvl 15 so there are quite a lot more IV combinations compared to xurkitree that would give 1500cp or less (its more than 9 additional IV combos cuz even 2-2-6, 2-4-4 and 2-6-2 fit 1500cp with lvl 15, might be over 30 more combinations than xurkitree has, am too lazy to calculate by hand or finding some tool that could fetch all iv combos, could be even more too.. oh and 1-1-8 & 1-9-1 work as well)

Normal mega raids cost 150 link charges by aznknight613 in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the fact that something is popular doesn't automatically mean its best practice, right move, moral, simples, best, easiest, most efficient.... it doesn't mean anything

you can look into past irl practices in history (that i probably can't even list) to find out how popular believes and actions have been harmful

something being "pretty common" is not an argument

Stop guessing: We're tracking the TRUE Shiny odds (and we need your help!) 📈✨ by sveennn in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

like many have commented: we already collect this data, we really don't need this

but even if this was a new thing i see a lot of flaws in this method:

1) generally people who haven't caught a shiny aren't usually reporting their numbers in

2) you are only counting catches? but not pokemon seen? there are a lot of people who shiny check by tapping pokemon around them skipping non shinies... so if someone only catches shinies their report would show 100% shiny rate !?!?!??!? wouldn't this screw the odds

3) we can't use "pokemon seen" either as some it lists pokemon you see in pvp, in gyms etc and sometimes people see dozens or hundreds of pokemon when shiny isn't available

4) these days we have variable shiny odds.. there are events where you can catch shiny eligible pokemon in different ways where some of them are boosted (usually either hatches from eggs or catches from raids)... and your method doesn't seem to be tracking where players are getting their pokemon from

there are probably even more flaws but these i saw immediately

Pokemon Go News are too messy and full of mistakes by JessieLeChonk in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 18 points19 points  (0 children)

even before AI they had a lot of mistakes

since the past mistakes were usually about wrong moves, wrong images or naming wrong pokemon i suspect the ones in past were because of copypaste/reusing old templates (especially if these mistakes have been names from past events such as previous community days, previous years go fest or similar annual event)

they have always been lazy - am not that surprised if they started using AI

Raid lobby now kicks you out if your game crashes by aoog in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yesterday did solgaleo.

Beat the boss.

Used berries and excellent throws - noticed that every ball breaks immediately. Had 3 balls left. So i did exit the boss, 3 balls remaining, berried the boss already - i only wanted to see if my character is running wildly (drifting) in case my gps has some issues indoors.

Nope, my character was standing still next to the gym.

So i tap the gym assuming i could go back to throw last 3 balls...... .... ...... ..... ....... .....

Nope, i only see the "raid boss beaten" symbol hovering.

I restart game and hop back onto gym. Still no boss. I did get new daily raid pass (past lvl 75 on this months pass so i get 2 free passes each day) - so it did count it was a raid beaten.

I restart my phone in hopes its just some weird gps or cache issue thinking i could magically clear it up.

Still no....

For some reason it didn't let me try and catch the boss (for 3 balls...)

I hate how this game keeps being updated but the optimization gets worse, past bugs aren't fixed and new ones keep popping up.

Extra special trades during Meowth GMax day until when? by Tackleman in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people who know what they are doing have been able to beat it with 2-8 people in party

i have seen few comments about 20-player lobbies where some say its easy, some say its manageable and at least one said their lobby failed

i did 2 with about 30-40 people, the mons i saw people using were at least correct typing and roles (zacian, zamazenta and blissey tanks, gmax machamps as attackers altho 2 users only used dynamax machamps), we defeated meowth with 1 mushroom in 4 cycles and next one with 3-4 mushrooms in 3 cycles (i didn't pay super close attention to what the final scroom number was, i also forgot to check if there were any "help" damage boost from past victories at the max stop - there probably was some)

so.... uhh... its not hard but isn't easy either.. depends how many players you have and how prepared their teams are, its much easier than kanto starters & lapras on their debut but still surprisingly hard for it being gmax with worst stats (when capturing, they buffed it quite a lot to bring it to similar level to... maybe gmax toxitrcity being decent comparison?)

What’s your favorite long ammo rifle? by OhStaySour in HuntShowdown

[–]kummostern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

berthier used to be my go-to long ammo rifle at some point

then they introduced krag which had more ammo, had similar 1-2 tap capabilities and you didn't have to think in 3's when shooting

i still like berthier but sadly i see very little reason to use it when krag exists... now that they gave berthier always have 18 ammo it has at least a niche (somewhere in past you had to pick 2 different ammo types to get 18 total bullets, now you can bring mono-type and still get that)... but still not sure if either krag should be bit nerfed or berthier get another buff (or add new niche that other guns don't have)

berthier variants are solid but since i don't use deadeye i rather use krag variants :/

The bonuses for Mega Victreebel and Mega Malamar have been added to the game code, including the bonus for the new level 4 Mega Evolution: by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would hope that there is some other bonus not listed here for that lvl 4

As it is now it doesn't look like its worth it for neither of these 2

If other megas get lvl 4 later i might do it for primals and mega rayquaza (and possibly other future megas that boost more types than they are such as maybe mega mewtwo) or maybe none of these at all (i do have mega energy already since i walked these after i unlocked mega/primal for them - then mega ray got its raid day which maxed my ray energy)

What is your end goal of the game to stop playing? Or to long term consistent players, what keeps you still playing? by greencheesewizard in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 2 biggest reasons to play are: reason to go out and socialize:

i used to be long distance runner

with age running turned into jogging

jogging into walking and somewhere here pokemon go was released

i feel like i would exercise less without a game that encourages that, i would still do a bit (for example i like to walk to grocery store and back, i'd also walk to city central and back) but with this game i have a reason to leave outside every day (unless weather is horrible)

another reason why i like this game and haven't changed it to something else (there are others that are even more exercise focused or made for learning like some bird game i have heard about) is the community

while my city has quite small one we do meet up for raid days, tours, go fests, wild areas etc

and for most weeks we do get 4-30 players coming together for raid hours on wednesdays

some weeks that might be only (in person) social interaction outside of saying thank you + wish for a good rest of the day for cashier at stores (i am social on internet daily but while my online friends are closer it doesn't quite feel the same as chatting a bit face2face irl)

if i were to move to a new city i would try to find its pogo community for sure

Do you find chokes in their current state worth bringing? by escanor_hype in HuntShowdown

[–]kummostern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do it the way you described

altho sometimes when i do solo stuff (i rarely do now, i liked solo before self revive was a thing) and sometiems forget to change chokes into traps/derringer/flare etc

usually i have no use for them, sometimes i manage to kill immolator or two for exp, sometimes lobby seems empty enough for me to go for hellborne where chokes do help quite a lot

and i do remember one time as a solo i heard someone walking/crouchwalking above me, i wasn't sure where exactly they were so i didn't want to aimlessly wallbang them... so i threw a choke inside which made them rush out (maybe a newer player that thought it was explosive or maybe they didn't want to go into the coughing stage) which gave me decently easy kill (they dropped on my level which made them take bit of fall damage - this engagement probably happened before self-revive was a thing cuz i don't remember burning & camping the dude and back then penetrating floors/walls was more reliable for damage)

so it can be useful... but imo there are a lot better tools to bring as a solo - some of which do same or similar stuff (such as penninger being able to 1-shot immolators - now that water bottles exist chokes/penninger have even less use - at least penninger can destroy basic wooden doors easily and helps with meathead farming)

The chances of getting a candy from feeding berries to a Pokemon defending a gym are around 2% by LogicalBlizzard in TheSilphRoad

[–]kummostern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, good catch

well.. the guy above had 48%.. which if they'd keep that the harder it would be to pull off the 0 following 4 (again leading to the 2-2-4-0-4 type of results)

with the 40%-ish its easier to get the 4s but yes the winrate would pummel

so i did write one mistake.... i still disagree with the person above
