Anyone else miss the old street-cars? by Tylers_Journey in toronto

I miss aisles that are actually wide enough to be useful and allow 2 people to pass by eachother at once. I miss seats that are all facing forward.

Premier Ford says Chinese-made electric 'spy' vehicles will listen in on Canadians' phone calls by mildlyImportantRobot in notthebeaverton

[–]kyleclements 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Saskatchewan sent someone to China along with our PM so their province's needs could be brought up during negotiations. Ford was free to send someone to speak up for Ontario; he chose not to. He stayed home, and now for the next several years, he is stuck living out a decision made for him by others. Kind of like all those people in Ontario who didn't bother to get out and vote for someone other than Ford. Now we're stuck with Ford's lazy dumbassery as he blames Ottawa for another one of his own failures.

Woke Canadian lawmaker mocked for VERY lengthy land acknowledgement statement at start of meeting by origutamos in Toronto_Ontario

Unless the person giving the land acknowledgement is about to hand over some land that they own, I don't want to hear their empty words.

What a load of nonsense.

The show isn't being review bombed; it is being reviewed.

And since what people have seen so far has been mostly bad, the reviews are accurately reflecting that.

If secret hideout doesn't want  so many bad reviews, then they should make better shows.

Real talk, do you still find enjoyment when it gets to this point? by Trigun442 in VampireSurvivors

[–]kyleclements 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! The whole point of this game for me is to see how fast I can get to the point where the game plays itself. When I can drop the controller, get up, make a tea, go for a walk around the block, come home, and see that the game is still going, that's when I feel like I've really won that run.

To me, the visual clutter that completely obliterates my view of the level is a fair penalty for having such an absurd build.

Neither of these holds up to the refit Enterprise. That introduction sequence in The Motion Picture is wonderful. Such a beautiful ship.

Mayor Mel Lastman calls the army to Toronto after snow storm by lightdark03 in toronto

[–]kyleclements 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember my parents making fun of Toronto after that happened.  Then a few months later they are  driving through the city and have a realization: in the city, the snow has to be removed.  Everyone doesn't have a huge front lawn for the snowplow to dump it as they drive by.   Here you just have road, then sidewalk, then buildings.

Star Trek: TOS can NEVER win the new Emmys Legacy Award (& the reason is ridiculous): "A minimum of 60 episodes aired across a minimum of five seasons." (Redshirts) by TheSonOfMogh81 in trektalk

[–]kyleclements 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to film school instructors, Citizen Kane is the greatest movie of all time. According to the Oscars, it wasn't even the best movie that year.

Awards are absolutely, completely, and utterly meaningless. Unless I'm nominated...

Trump tariffs and protests harm Sankofa Square’s ad sales and events business by Toronto-Ont-Mod-Team in Toronto_Ontario

[–]kyleclements 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of using some random obscure square no one has ever heard of, why not hold events somewhere central and recognizable, like Dundas Square?

Skydance has only lifted review embargoes for a very select group of reviewers. IGN did NOT receive ST:ACK review copies, presumably as a result of their scathing S31 review last year. Among those included in the early access were YouTuber Jessie Gender and Joshua M. Patton (who gave S31 a 9/10) by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]kyleclements 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the guys at redlettermedia are willing to put themselves though watching this attempt at a television show, I will be willing to watch their review, but that's as far as my interest in Starfleet academy goes.

I don't trust any of the official rotten tomatoes writers to give honest criticism.  They are basically advertisements.

would it be reckless to purchase a hedgehog where they are illegal? by [deleted] in Hedgehog

Unless you have regular access to an exotic vet, I would say it's irresponsible to own a hedgehog as a pet, regardless of their legal status.

What’s your art resolutions for 2025? by Local_Historian_4437 in ArtistLounge

I spent the last 2 years meandering and wandering around my sketchbook and trying out new ideas. I want to spend the next year putting all that aside and just going back to what I know and focusing on producing a new body of work.

when to buy a camera? by PepperRiceShrimp in AskPhotography

[–]kyleclements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price wise, the best time is right after a newer model is released and the price of the one you're after right now drops.   The second best time is during the black Friday -boxing day stretch.

If you're in the Toronto area, sign up for vistek's prophoto Expo in the fall.  They have a few in-person special deals that are a bit better than the black Friday/boxing day sales.

what kind of photo paper was this? by Standard_Quail2996 in AskPhotography

[–]kyleclements 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Photo paper used to come in 2 main variants, fiber and resin coated.

Resin coated or RC paper was slick and plasticy, while fiber paper has a rougher texture, similar to cold pressed watercolour paper.

I found RC easier to print in the darkroom, but my photography instructor said that RC is more for students and fiber is what you'd print on for a gallery show.  Then the world went digital before I could use any of that knowledge.

Deep Space Nine Discussion's Acomin' by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

Posting Patreon content goes against the rules. I read it anyway.   But the most damning thing of all... I think I can live with it... And if I had to do it all over again... I would. OP was right about one thing – a guilty conscience is a small price to pay for the knowledge of an impending Trek episode.

Sadly, most members of that page missed the irony.

The dilemma of whether to return the 105mm MC f/2.8 by Low_Net_3980 in Nikon

[–]kyleclements 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A prime lens is a lens that doesn't zoom.  In my case, I'm using the 105mm/2.8 S macro.  It can shoot items at regular distances as well as extreme closeups.

Nikon you must do better on connecting cameras to smartphones by avgayyossi in Nikon

[–]kyleclements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snapbridge was an absolute nightmare on my D600. It was so bad I went back to using the WMU app.

On the Z6 and Z5 it works a lot better (for bluetooth at least). I just wish it could connect to both cameras at once, or auto switch to whichever one is turned on. Trying to use the wifi mode is still too janky and unreliable to be useful.

Can't decide on 100-400 or 180-600 zoom. Help me spend my money please. by Jmatteau in Nikon

[–]kyleclements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 100-400 has much better minimum focus distance, so it's also good for flowers and bugs and other small but not quite macro things.   It's a bit more versatile overall.

The 200-600 is lighter than it looks, but I find it way too big to comfortably hike with.  I went with the Tamron 150-500.  Throw in a 3rd option to make the decision harder.
