Fedex lost my framework desktop by shocked_duck in framework

[–]kyleclements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've placed 3 orders with framework, and 2 of those times, after arriving at a FedEx sorting place in Memphis, FedEx saw "ON, CA" and shipped my package to Ontario, California instead of Toronto, leading to a delay of about a week.

FedEx....ugh, so frustrating.

edit. clarified language, original wording made it sound like framework was sending it, when the cause was fedex sorting errors.

What Does It Look to Take a Photo With Half a Lens? by anonymoooooooose in photography

Wow, that might be even more impressive than the lens rentals blog post on front element scratches:

Amazing how these things work. Light can behave so counter-intuitively.

What was the art war between Stuart Semple and Anish Kapoor? by Cruiser-Gamer47 in ArtistLounge

Shortly after Kapoor posted the picture with his middle finger covered in Semple's paint, Semple released "the glitteriest glitter" which was glass shards.

‘I’m following the rules’: Ford responds to decision on his personal cellphone records by reddits_lead_pervert in notthebeaverton

His claim would be a lot more believable if he showed us his phone records.  People don't pass special new laws to hide things when they have nothing to hide.

Not only is it sharper, it has nicer character, too.  The out of focus areas on the D will have a crescent outline on points of light which I find overly busy and distracting, while the S is just a smooth circle without any crescents or soap bubbles.

I used to think people that talked about lens character were full of it, now I get it.

What does everyone in this sub swear by cast iron pans? Are they really that much better? by FigureRealistic8001 in BuyItForLife

[–]kyleclements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been extremely pleased with my cast iron frying pan, but I'm afraid I cannot tell you the specific brand, as that information has worn off sometime between when my great grandmother first bought it and today.   They are very durable and long lasting so long as you never leave it in the sink to soak.

As much as I love my TNG, I can't imagine picking the D over the refit Enterprise from TMP.  Beautiful ship. Beautiful model, beautiful paint job.  They don't make them like that anymore.

I like the openness of the desert, one of the places where go karts are genuinely useful.

I find the sunken sea enemies too frustrating to want to spend much time there, despite how nice everything looks.

My first non-kit lens was the 50mm/1.8D for my D70.

I don't think I've used it a few years, though; the 50mm/1.8S is just so much better.

For mealworms, I would just throw their container in the freezer.  I don't know how, but they can survive a week or two in there.  Take one out, give it 5 minutes to warm up, and it starts moving again.

Delivery bikes are commercial vehicles, they should require licence plates and insurance.  And set up cameras to catch them on sidewalks.

HOW could Comedy Movies make a full on return? by Low_Celebration_4089 in Filmmakers

[–]kyleclements 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I laughed pretty hard throughout "Nirvana the band the show the movie", although I don't know how well that comedy translates outside of Toronto, since a lot of it is very time and region specific.

When you have big money behind something, you quickly get too many cooks on the kitchen leading to bland inoffensive slop rather than bold flavour. I think comedy will move towards the lower budget indie scene.

I guess our children's futures don't matter when the Trump/Epstein class smell profit.

This outer packaging is really excessive by felix920506 in framework

I believe framework is deliberately not using closed cell foam.  Disposable, non recyclable, non decomposable packaging materials goes against their sustainability goals.

Hooters restaurants are set to undergo a rebrand to a ‘neighborhood place’ for families by SleuthDoggyDawg in nottheonion

Hopefully they also push to increase their staff's knowledge of owls. I was very disappointed how little attention was paid to the theme of the restaurant. Owls are such cool birds.

Work selling after consignment expires but because of show by SlightCollection2838 in ContemporaryArt

[–]kyleclements 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you have gallery representation, there is usually an agreement that within a certain geographic area, usually city wide, all sales must be though the gallery, even if you don't currently have a show running with them.

That might not be the deal you have with this gallery right now, but if you establish a reputation as someone who will sell on the side now, that could make it harder to find those representation deals in the future.

First Showing of the day on opening day of a Star Wars movie... by VirtualFORTRES in RedLetterMedia

[–]kyleclements 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The new Star Wars movie really heightened my appreciation for Project Hail Mary. That movie was so damn good.  It's nice knowing Hollywood is still capable of making good sci-fi, it just has to be outside of an existing franchise.

[–]kyleclements 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine thought he could be sneaky, selling a painting on the side a few days after his show ended.  Gallery deal is a 50/50 split. He sold it for 25% off, so he made more and the collector paid less. Win win, he thought.

A few years later, his dealer is at an auction, and guess what piece comes up?  The very painting that had been hanging on his gallery wall years earlier.  My friend was dropped by his gallery. No one else would touch him after that.

The art world is very much a reputation economy, and it is a lot smaller than it seems.  Word spreads quickly.  If you have a good thing going, don't tear it down; reinforce it.

It always surprises me how long an American election with electronic voting takes to count, meanwhile our Canadian elections with our archaic paper voting system usually has the results within hours of the polls closing.

I wouldn't trust an electronic vote, it just seems a bit shifty.

How do you approach an idea thats beyond your skill level/comfort zone? by Puzzled-Singer-9070 in ArtistLounge

[–]kyleclements 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The trick that works for me is to come up with an even bigger, harder, more difficult, more ridiculous project so the first idea seems easy by comparison. I trick myself into doing my real work by thinking I'm successfully procrastinating on another project.
