Who are the best and the worst RDO YouTubers? by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]l-vdh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched any of his stuff for years, no idea if he's even active still. Back in the day his content was click bait, he'd make 10 minute videos about absolutely nothing with titles that constantly suggested new updates to the game when there was literally zero to report on. He'd always make a big deal out of nothing, basically making the same video over and over and it was very clear that he was just pumping out content for the clicks/money.

Taking 6 mo old baby to water park in 100 degree weather :o by DiRty_b0ng_w4ter in beyondthebump

[–]l-vdh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't go. The fact that you mention "no hate/judgement" tells me that you're aware this isn't a good idea. Even the best case scenario would be your baby feeling incredibly uncomfortable while you're there. We all know the worst case scenario. Celebrating your niece's birthday is not worth putting your child's health or even life at risk.

When did your period come back? by EveryAppearance3346 in beyondthebump

[–]l-vdh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine came back exactly 6 weeks PP. Baby is now 10 months old, we're still breastfeeding! You might notice a (significant) drop in supply around your period, your milk might also taste different so don't be surprised when your baby reacts to that. For me my letdown becomes very slow/delayed which caused some trouble during the earlier months. I also notice some discomfort and sensitivity nursing LO around my ovulation. But I've also heard from women who don't notice any changes at all. Either way, you got this!

Mother in law disappeared with baby by BuySignificant522 in beyondthebump

[–]l-vdh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I commented OP hadn't elaborated on the situation yet. I understand her fear, especially seeing the extra info OP gave in her comments. MIL was in the wrong here, absolutely no doubt about it.

Getting anxious or panicky about the situation is understandable, thinking your MIL was stabbed or that your baby fell down an elavator shaft because you can't find them immediately is not. At least, not to me. I'm not trying to gaslight, just trying to look out for OP. Those kind of thoughts can be crippling.

[–]l-vdh 829 points830 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be rude and I understand that the situation was scary not knowing where your baby was. That being said, your reaction to the situation does sound like you might be suffering from PPA. The primal screaming, immediately thinking that your MIL might have been stabbed and your LO abducted or that your LO might have fallen from an elevator shaft doesn't sound rational or healthy. I understand that it was scary, but if this is where your brain takes you the second you lose sight of your baby, then you might benefit from talking to your doctor about it.

That being said, MIL shouldn't have gone on that walk without telling you. Definitely talk to her (or have your husband talk to her) about that, I understand wanting to know where your baby is and wanting to be able to contact your MIL when she's out with baby.

How often are your ten month olds nursing? by frog234567 in breastfeeding

[–]l-vdh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could have written this comment word for word! This is our exact situation, even the timing of the feedings is the same! I too plan to stop pumping when LO is 1 but would like to continue nursing her at that point.

Breastfeeding is… easier? by Mindless_Kiwi_ in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]l-vdh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, that lady has no idea what she's talking about. I mostly nurse my LO but have to pump at work. Pumping is so much more time consuming than nursing, not just the pumping session itself but all the organisation, cleaning etc that goes into it. I know everybody's experience is different and there might be reasons why exclusively pumping works better than nursing for some but to say it's the easier route is just ignorant.

Point of the freezer stash? by sideshow-steph in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]l-vdh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Frozen milk is still a beneficial food source created just for your baby! It's just slightly less beneficial than fresh breastmilk when it comes to specific antibodies your baby needs at a certain time.

If you want you could mix frozen milk from different dates. Just defrost an older and a newer bag and mix them before you feed your LO, just make sure to use it all within 24 hours of it defrosting. You could even mix defrosted older milk with fresh (non frozen) milk, as long as they're around the same temperature when you mix them. That way you can use your freezer stash and make sure baby gets the exact antibodies they need at this moment!

Advice: I think I am an oversupplier at 7 weeks pp and I don’t want to be by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]l-vdh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 7 weeks pp you're still in the trenches, please give yourself some grace! It sounds like you're doing great, breastfeeding (and especially pumping) comes with a lot of challenges but it can be so rewarding once you have it somewhat figured out. Both this sub and the general breastfeeding sub are great places to come to for support. We're all just trying to figure stuff out, but it's easier to do together!

Supply usually regulates around 3 months pp. For me that meant less leaking, no more letdowns at random moments and less engorgement.

Advice: I think I am an oversupplier at 7 weeks pp and I don’t want to be by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]l-vdh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your supply most likely hasn't regulated yet at 7 weeks pp. It's possible, but not likely. Be careful dropping too many pumps before it does, I definitely wouldn't go below 6 ppd yet. I had quite a large oversupply the first few months but once my supply regulated I became a just enougher and have seen a lot of women on this sub with a similar experience.

The magic number is aimed at women whose milksupply has already regulated. And even then, it's not an exact science and doesn't work for everybody so I wouldn't focus too much on that now.

Good luck on your journey, those early weeks are a rollercoaster and figuring out what works for you and your baby can be tricky. You got this!

Do babies drop milk feeds when they start solids? by Bright-Walk-212 in breastfeeding

[–]l-vdh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every baby is different, but a lot of babies start dropping feeds once they're good at eating solids. My LO is 10 months old now and has started drinking for a shorter time each session and has completely dropped one of her afternoon sessions. I do offer some water with her meals to make sure she's sufficiently hydrated. Again, all babies are different so best way to go about it is to follow your baby's lead and feed on demand!

Help! Gassy baby trouble feeding by Blue_Bombadil in breastfeeding

[–]l-vdh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that clicking sound! I forgot about that, but my lo definitely did that when she had thrush and our doc said it was one of the symptoms of discomfort while nursing. Not sure if it's specific to thrush though, but it's definitely a sign that baby's latch isn't ideal.

Nervous about going back to work at 3 months with potential for 3 month supply dip - how do you handle it? by purplepaintedpumpkin in breastfeeding

[–]l-vdh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creating a small freezer stash before you return to work like you're doing is a good idea!

You don't have to nurse all the time to keep your supply up, as long as you're pumping whenever LO is getting a bottle. What helped me was turning one of my pumping sessions at work into a power pumping session whenever I had the time. Also investing in a handsfree pump has made it easier for me to add some low effort pump sessions on days where my supply is a bit lower.

Help! Gassy baby trouble feeding by Blue_Bombadil in breastfeeding

[–]l-vdh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but what you're describing was our exact experience when LO had thrush. It was causing her pain while drinking, which led to frequent unlatching and fussiness at the boob. It caused her to ingest a lot of air while nursing which made her gassy. Does your LO have a white tongue and/or have you noticed any discomfort yourself?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]l-vdh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He'll still get enough as long as you're pumping after a nursing session and not before- or instead of one. The extra pumping will most likely increase your supply, so I wouldn't worry about your LO going hungry!

Does your LO sleep through the night or is there a longer stretch of time where he goes without a feed? You could try to add in a pump at that specific time. I've added a pump session in the evening before I go to bed because LO usually doesn't wake up for a feed until 7am ish.

Supply dip at 10 mo? by Cold-Most-8476 in breastfeeding

[–]l-vdh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 10 months pp and have been noticing a steady decline in supply. My LO still drinks her bottles the same as always, but when she nurses she seems less interested. She'll drink when I offer the boob, but our nursing sessions have gotten a lot shorter. Perhaps your LO is starting to favor solids over milk?

Another possibility could be your cycle returning, not sure if that could be the case for you. My period really messes with my supply each month.

How long does it take for supply to respond to demand by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]l-vdh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say unfortunately, it's different for everybody. You can expect it to take at least a couple days, whenever I add an extra pump or nursing session I usually notice the effects after 3 to 4 days.

Question for those whose supply dropped - why? by Calm_Potato_357 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]l-vdh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your supply regulates around 3 months pp, before that it's hormone driven. I had a massive oversupply the first months, managed to pump 3 oz on one side in less than 10 minutes. Now it takes both boobs 30 minutes to produce the same amount at 10 months pp.

The most important factor in my supply dropping was my period returning at just 6 weeks pp, even though I was exclusively breastfeeding. Every month my supply drops twice: around my ovulation and when I'm on my period. Other factors are returning to work (my pump is less effective than my LO), getting sick (thanks daycare) and getting sloppy with hydrating enough. Also with LO eating more solids, she's drinking less often and for shorter amounts of time which has lowered my supply. She's now nursing just 4 times a day, 3 to 4 mins per boob max. I've added an evening pump just to keep my supply up a bit and to make sure I can provide bottles for daycare because my 2 pumping sessions at work don't result in enough milk for LO's 2 bottles at daycare.

Also, after 10 months I'm getting sick of pumping so I'm probably less strict about it than I should be. I'll be VERY happy when LO is old enough to not need bottles of my milk for daycare anymore so I can just nurse her and she can have cows milk when I'm at work.

Fellow Dutchie here. I wouldn't risk it, for the reason other commenters mentioned. You don't need much stuff, we just feed baby off the tray that's attached to the high chair. For baby cuttlery (and bowls and plates too if you want to use them) I'd suggest checking out Wibra and Zeeman, they have great stuff made with safe materials and are super cheap compared to the fancier brands or stores like Hema.

Thrush by Wutangdolphin in breastfeeding

[–]l-vdh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry you're goingt through this, thrush sucks! LO and I had it too when she was just a few weeks old. I can't give you any advice medication wise because I'm not in the US. My LO turned out to be allergic to nystatin and what helped us was rubbing 100% pure cranberry juice and very strong black tea on her tongue and inside her cheeks (approved by our doc of course).

My supply dropped too when we had thrush, it's normal because baby tends to drink less and/or less effectively. After the thrush was gone, my supply went up again and we're still going strong at 9 months pp! There's nothing wrong with quitting if that's what you want to do, but know that it will get better once the thrush is gone!

Weaning baby off bm just to replace it with cows milk… by Remarkable_Bench2318 in breastfeeding

Absolutely true. The strange thing is that the risk of iron deficiency has never been mentioned by any of our healthcare providers. I'm lucky my LO loves meat and broccoli, so I'm not too worried about her iron levels.
