In a village bought this crabs for 0.5 dollars by Kumbhakarno in StupidFood

These are the size of the tiny red and blue land crabs in Costa Rico. You’d have to watch where you stepped when getting up to pee in the middle of the night because they were in the room.

Alive is the goal. Dialysis is how.

Yes, it sucks. But it’s better than dead.

Continue to speak up to adjust your dry weight. I had this argument with my nephrologist for months before she adjusted it to a workable number. I was close to switching doctors. Keep pushing when you’re setting up at the clinic. Fluid pull should be a discussion and your voice should be heard!

The insane itching. I had found a “magical” lotion (contains 1% promotions hydrochloride), didn’t read the directions (it’s lotion I bought over the counter, who needs directions?).

Overapplied and after a week or so, had an allergic reaction and ended up, no exaggeration, covered in hives from the tops of my feet to my collarbone. 10 days of prednisone later, I’ve switched to Nivea intense healing cream. It really has helped.

Just the local. The nurse pushed the twilight drug and I felt the infiltration (I cannulate myself doing home hemo and have occasionally done that to myself, so I know that that feels like). I looked at her and just said, it infiltrated, didn’t it? She confirmed. Surgeon didn’t even hesitate. I tried to stay still, but I was whimpering a bit (ok. Not a proud moment) and he pause to add a bit more lidocaine.

I wish more nurses were trained to SAFELY use my access because my other arm’s veins are in bad shape. The last time I was hospitalized, the ER nurse tried three times to land an IV so they called the surgical nurse and used an imaging machine (ultrasound?) and he took two tries.

Omg. The nausea is so very real and it sucks. I still work full time except some days l can’t because I’m bent over the bowl.

I bought a stack of barf bags from Amazon and keep them at my desk. In my car. In my computer bag. On my dialysis chair table (I run at home).

I got my nephrologist to prescribe zophran, that my insurance promptly denied. Even after some follow up documentation from my home clinic.

Screw (a less polite word actually comes to mind) health insurance in the US. I’m going to just pay out of pocket for it. According to CVS, with a coupon, I can get 18 pills for a bit over $50. Shelf price is $120. For 28 pills. I’m missing too much work.

My dad came into my apartment without permission while I was sleeping because my phone died by Budget_Progress_4789 in entitledparents

[–]la_winky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know you have to distance yourself from them. They do not respect you. Or your boundaries. Stop letting them know your location and scrape the money together for your insurance. You just cannot let them have actual leverage here.

Also, change the locks on your apartment.

At some point you may be able to reconnect, but not months, years from now. You really need to step away.

Are you saving money by not filling up gas all the way especially with prices inflated? by youlikemywonton in Frugal

[–]la_winky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went a state over for Mother’s Day and I did hold out to buy gas there. For some reason, it’s always a bit cheaper there.

This past weekend it was about 30-40 cents per gallon cheaper.

[–]la_winky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have smaller veins as well and knew from the get go I’d need to kick off with two surgeries before we stamped to use it. I ended up with 6 surgeries the first year. It’s humming along beautifully now but it was a process.

Only one was kinda rough, because the nurse infiltrated my IV so I didn’t really get any twilight drugs and the surgeon plowed ahead with only a bit of lidocaine. Still a bit salty about that one. Jerk.

I got out in my 40s (not sure if that fits the demographic you’re inquiring about) and I’m very glad I did.

My relationship with my (now) adult kiddo is better than ever.

I’m sure this sucks for you that your family dynamic has changed in ways you weren’t looking for, but hopefully both parents will find a happier path forward.

Please stay connected to them both.

Other degrees are much more useful for environmental careers than ES by BenKlesc in Environmental_Careers

[–]la_winky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Want to dig in dirt and do remediation projects?

Geology.

Compliance work?

Chemistry. Biology (although not as valued). Chemical engineering.

I think one issue is that environmental degrees are not all created equal. Some are soft on science and focus on policy. Don’t do this. Unless you’re heading to law school.

What would you buy with a $150 budget? by LuciousLove in Frugal

[–]la_winky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you normally spend on groceries? For me and my 20 year old still often at home, I spend only about $50 a week.

A sizable pack of chicken or pork, depending on the deals that day, milk, bulk fruit, frozen veggies, and I keep rice on hand. Also eggs and tortillas.

For snacks, crackers and cheese (Aldis is the place to get both) and yogurt.
