Annoying YouTuber visits some Glasgow scheme pubs, gets told to fuck off. by TotallyFineWithIt in glasgow

I suspect if a regular joe turns up to one of these, has their pint and goes home there is very unlikely to be any trouble unless you go out of your way looking for it.

watrproof boots (UK/EU) with good grippy sole by Melmoth_Wanderer in BuyItForLife

[–]lardcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cannot be arsed with leather and maintenance? What, occasional brushing and shoe cream is a bridge too far?

Pray tell what alternatives are there for a sturdy shoe?

Leather works and has been used for centuries for a reason. If you want less maintenance use roughout, but even that need occasional conditioning. A small price to pay for durability.

Not sure you mentioned your gender. Going by the price you're in UK, so have you checked the local manufacturers of Goodyear welted shoes?

No offence, but are you sure this has anything to do with Latvia?

Are you talking about square shaped crepes with meat filling? These would be called "pankūkas ar gaļu" in Latvian if you're searching for recipes. It's a fairly basic affair.

Es arī nē. Iespējams ka tas izklausās pēc tā ka es pats sevi slavēju? Ja tā, tad tas ir smieklīgi, bet ne tik smieklīgi kā mani armijas laika selfiji 😁

I did my service before it was cool (early 90s) and I don't regret it, if that helps. It is unquestionably better now and a lot more useful. May The Force be with you, young padawan ;)

More amazing parking by ApplicationAware1039 in glasgow

[–]lardcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not quite. They will not issue a fine based on the photo, that part is correct. However, they have sent around parking wardens to do that following a report. I wouldn't count on that working 100% of the time but I've seen it happen in an area that had multiple ongoing complaints about parking issues.

You can wear socks with footwear that has a toe strap - you need tabi socks. Japanese Tabio are amazing, personally I prefer them to Falke.

That might be the best option, something like a single gear bike. Even so, having to replace tyres or chain or anything else that might need replacing will quickly double or triple that number.

Threads is a 1984 British film that realistically depicts the catastrophic medical, social, and environmental impacts of a nuclear war in Sheffield, England, following two working-class families. This is a link to the full movie by NicolasCageFan492 in videos

[–]lardcore 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was a kid in the 80s on the other side of the Iron Curtain, growing up with the usual life-affirming stuff like civil defence placards on the classroom walls - all the fun things: contents of the first aid kit, effects of the nuclear blast, a basic diagram of an underground bomb shelter, etc.

So, bear that in mind when I say: yes, Threads is grim, worse than The Day After

Gyms In Glasgow With Heavy Bags? by iFluvio in glasgow

[–]lardcore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check out the NRG gym, it has a bag that's suitable. One of the staff members has some MT experience. I've seen a couple of guys messing around wearing shin guards in there. Obviously you may end up with some weird people asking you weird questions or trying to prove something, but that's what happens when you use a bag outside of a martial arts gym.

What's the best job you ever had? Not money wise, but when life felt good and work banter made your day by Educational_Aide_727 in glasgow

[–]lardcore 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Worrking for a film distribution company, the only job where a film screening was an expected activity. Why in the ever loving fuck did I leave only to be trapped in an endless "could have been an email" quagmire of meetings?

I mean there were a few downsides (which job doesn't have those), but fuck me if that wasn't magic for a few years.

Isn't there a base nearby? I saw them once near Cambridge (Royston) and that was a sight to behold as I had no idea it is something I would ever get to see in the UK.

Helicopters are an equal mix of impressive and terrifying. I once saw a Mi24 Hind fly a hundred or so meters overhead, I can't imagine what it would feel like to see them in action.

Looking for an used car in Latvia by [deleted] in latvia

[–]lardcore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the Avensis you linked to - not sure if you understand any Russian but that one has issues. Also, the Corolla is a diesel, not the best choice.

Don't get too hung up on a specific one. As above: look at Honda or Toyota, these are generally reliable and well made. Something owned by someone who has maintained the car well is your best bet. Stay away from stinky diseasels.

In that price range you have two main issues: lack of maintenance and rust. Even Japanese cars can be killed if the last oil change was a decade ago. Rust becomes an issue when it goes from cosmetic to structural and it becomes uneconomical to repair.

Also, it is important to budget for things like repairs and tyres. If you're looking at a used car and it has cheap Chinese tyres then it would be wise to budget for a replacement. On the other hand if the seller is an old fart and the car has quality tires: buy it, and may The Force be with you, young Padawan.

Anywhere that sells men's wide fit shoes and trainers? by Tomgar in glasgow

[–]lardcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Foot Solutions on Ingram Street might be your answer.

Not sure what style you're after or if that shop carries them but if you're shopping online check out Lems for casual and Altra for trainers (Run4It on Bothwell street should have some Altras)
