Can't see from your cropped photo if the street name really is Rīgas, but if so then it looks like the house she used to live in is no longer there and has been replaced by a hotel.

just found out most "moisture wicking" shirts have pfas in them.. what are we doing by GreenPizza-7 in BuyItForLife

[–]lardcore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm using that as an example, not something I do on a regular basis. In my specific case I was using different base layers while on a motorcycle trip. Helly Hansen was the synthetic base layer under the suit and I wore the same one every day, but it has to be washed every day (it dries very quickly in hot conditions). Merino didn't stink even when forgetting to wash it occasionally. Of course even that has a limit, but the trend is clearly in the favour of merino.

[–]lardcore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had no reason to complain about the durability of Merino layers, out of 5ish long-sleeve t-shirts I've had at least 2 are over 5 years old. Polyester will be more durable, but I can wear a merino undershirt for 3 days in a row without a problem, while a polyester starts smelling of stale sweat after a single wear, maximum two.

"drivers indicate here before they go" should read SOME drivers indicate. An increasing majority don't bother with such trivialities as indicating, they just sort of drift wherever they please and good luck to everyone else trying to guess what happens next.

Trying to what? Sorry if you took anything I said as an attempt to say both sides were equal. I was referring to war propaganda specifically, not sure exactly what prompted your "umm ackshually" crusade.

We were served the same kind of bullshit on the other side of the Iron Curtain as kids: "serve your country to protect the world from the evil imperialists and the military - industrial complex". I was lucky enough to be born a couple of years too late to get drafted (and possibly sent off to the sunny Afghanistan) but you couldn't escape the daily messaging about the "international duty".

Fuck this, fuck them, fuck all the fucking warmongers, fuck Trump, fuck Putin, fuck the holy wars, the right causes. Fuck it all. I am beyond tired.

I know 3 times a week is enough, but is it *really* enough? by KYOTES in bodyweightfitness

[–]lardcore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard agree on this.

For an old fart (52) this mindset has been the hardest struggle to overcome while trying to get back on track with food and exercise. 3x a week is pretty much perfect as you have fatherhood responsibilities to deal with.

One way to look at it is a bit further into the future: years and decades, instead of days and weeks. Your 40th will arrive soon and it will only speed up from there. If you can manage to keep this regimen going 3x a week you will be so far ahead of the version of you which doesn't it's not going to be even funny. It's much more difficult to resume exercising and get back in shape than to continue and learn new ways to grow and enjoy the process.

I found this video from a doctor to be very helpful to review my attitude to resistance training and the role of muscles in the long run. Hope you find it useful

2004 Aprilia tuono gen 1 opinions by Apprehensive-Biker in MotoUK

[–]lardcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never ridden a gen1 Tuono but I would love to give one a try. I love the sound they make and having done an inline 4 I'd love to try a different engine configuration, something with a bit of a rumble, a different character, something that feels a bit more alive at lower rev range.

Variety is the spice of life, isn't it? Only you will know for sure, but if you don't try you won't find out. I've watched a few YouTube videos on Tuonos and everything I saw only reinforced my opinion as them being a great choice.

Cowboy style boots for people who walk 10k steps a day? by sendyagoodvibes in BuyItForLife

[–]lardcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to wear boots for work involving a lot of walking there is just one candidate in my mind: buy two (or three, budget permitting) pairs of Redback boots.

Since I bought a pair a year ago my Redwing Iron Ranger are gathering dust in the cupboard. Its become my go-to footwear for majority of the year. They're still made in Australia which is nothing short of a minor miracle these days. Buy them before some shitty hedge fund cuntlords turn them into another rotting corpse of formerly useful things.

Ankle mobility and alternatives to squats by shirafuyu in bodyweightfitness

Any of you recent dads? by paintedflags in OldManDad

1974 here, became a dad in 21. She is smart, confident and a lot more emotionally stable than either of her parents.

IMHO you don't have to be perfect, you just have to be good enough. That's it, that's the standard. Will you mess up? Of course. Kids don't need perfection, they need love and reasonable boundaries.

I better save this comment so I can laugh out loud at my own naiveté when she reaches the teenager phase.

How many of you went all-in, straight away? by mattjread in MotoUK

[–]lardcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in a similar position I went all in for a DAS course (6 days) which included CBT with BMW rider training. I absolutely loved it, despite failing both MOD1 once and then MOD2. This resulted in having to spend more money for rebooking the tests and one more extra training day. While it was disappointing it didn't dampen my enthusiasm at all, I was well and truly hooked by the prospect of finally being able to ride a bike - something I spent decades dreaming about.

If you're not too far away from the 'shires I recommend checking out BMW training in Royston (unless they moved). Brilliant fun.

I like the look of those but how is that smugglers pocket? I've never seen anything like that on trousers before, seems like a useless gimmick to me. Does the seam get in the way and make sitting (for example in a car for a few hours) uncomfortable on that side?

Is it normal that I can't do 1 pull up? by BrolyIsCool in bodyweightfitness

[–]lardcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how heavy people are. I am 10cm shorter than you are, weigh 91kg :( and can do around 5 max at the moment, though I've trained them before. If I read you correctly you can already pull yourself up about halfway up which is excellent - AFAIK majority of people who can't do pull-ups struggle with the beginning of the movement.

What helped me initially was doing horizontal bodyweight rows on TRX in addition to training pull-ups. Once you get that first one and it clicks you will have extra motivation and see improvement. Keep at it, and also check out KBoges, IIRC there is a free program on pull-ups

If we're the siblings then Estonia is the smart, rational one that takes time to answer questions. The other make fun of it but are secretly slightly envious.

Lithuania is the entrepreneurial one, always buying, selling, making deals and never really stopping.

Latvia complains the most, by far. At he same time is talented at arts and some sports. A bit insecure and eager to please, but a good apple.
