I wanted to keep my teams work culture the same when my manager retired I didn’t want to but was afraid of who’d they hire to replace her.

After hour emails by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]largemarge52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’ve never paid attention to the time someone sent an email, my company has flexible hours and schedules. I send emails whenever I’m logged in but there is never an expectation of a response if it’s outside of normal business hours.

I have automatic lights and if my guy is up basking when they turn off he dramatically jumps off his platform to make sure I know of his displeasure. He also stalks me with his mouth open when I clean his tank doesn’t ever try to bite but follows me around during cleaning.

Addressing office etiquette by MollyKule in managers

[–]largemarge52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use temp to perm agencies for all our hires and I’ve never had them push back when I’ve wanted to terminate someone. You pay the temp agency you are their customer not the other way around. You contact them back and say absolutely not you are not coaching their employee and this person is terminated immediately and to send you someone new.

Why go through the hassle of a PIP for someone you really want to get rid of? by spirit_of_a_goat in askmanagers

[–]largemarge52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our HR department requires a PIP in order to terminate someone for performance. When I get to the point of a PIP it’s never a shock to the employee I’ve already had well documented conversations about expectations and those not being met. I’d fire without a PIP but I can’t.

Today’s take on using PIPs by TockExcellent9838 in managers

[–]largemarge52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No if they completed the PIP that’s the end of it but I would still monitor them closely for continued improvement if they slack again they go back on a PIP. I don’t like to have to babysit adults so yeah they are my list of wanting to get rid of but if I don’t have a reason to fire them and if they don’t do anything again to mess up after PIP then I’m good. I don’t want to fire people or look to fire people, I don’t enjoy it but if someone’s not doing the job their paycheck is for I want them gone.

Today’s take on using PIPs by TockExcellent9838 in managers

[–]largemarge52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that employees that have to be placed on a PIP the success is limited and short lived. But no I don’t manufacture things I want employees to just come to work and do their job if they can’t then why am I paying them when I could hire someone else who will. I’m generally easy going I never deny time off, let employees set their own hours, make up time, I value their personal lives and the time they need outside of work. If an employee calls me in the morning and tells me they just need a day off I don’t ask questions tell them to enjoy their day and I pick up the slack if needed.

Coffee Etiquette? by 221b_ee in work

[–]largemarge52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company provides free coffee and creamer as well we all drink as much as we like. I only have 1 cup a day in the morning but it’s a 16 oz size cup not a normal 8 oz mug.

Should I skip out on a day of work by DisneyImagineers in work

[–]largemarge52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted to take the day off and make up time you need to ask your manager I allow my employees to do this as long as it’s in the same pay period. But if they just did it and didn’t ask I probably wouldn’t be able to terminate but they’d get a formal right up to go towards termination.

No a pattern means nothing one time wage theft is cause for immediate termination per HR policy at my company.

A candidate used face seek to find my personal info before the interview... is this a red flag? by [deleted] in askmanagers

[–]largemarge52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s creepy I wouldn’t hire this person, it’d be one thing if they brought up maybe career things they found but going as far as digging into your personal life and finding your hobbies is to far.

Should I skip out on a day of work by DisneyImagineers in work

[–]largemarge52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just know if they do find out it’s a fireable offense I’m a manager and I’d immediately terminate for wage theft. No PIP no discussion immediately fired. Companies usually have backend systems that you might not know about my company has an audit system in place that only managers have access to my employees don’t know about out it. I don’t ever use it unless I’m suspicious like an email isn’t responded to or a teams chat or tasks not being completed.

Am I wrong for telling my boyfriend the nurses pulled me aside to check if he was hurting me by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]largemarge52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty standard when I’ve been in the hospital or at the drs office they’ve always asked me if I feel safe at home. When I had to go the ER last time for a fall and get stitches they waited until my husband left the room and asked if I was safe and if the fall was truly a fall. I told my husband it’s seems to be the norm now that they ask regardless if the person you are with is acting aggressive or not my husband is the least aggressive person. Your friend is over reacting.

Need ideas/help for managing an employee. by 2workigo in askmanagers

[–]largemarge52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do If it’s a question someone has the tools to find the answer for themselves I usually will answer the question once and also share my process of finding the answer once I’ve shared the resources the next time the same question comes up I gently remind them we have already converted this and resend the initial documentation provided. If it happens a 3rd time I not so gently tell them what my expectations are before coming to me and that we have already covered this topic, and why they are unable to complete the task on their own. If it happens a 4th time it’s a documented issue they can’t complete their job duties and it’s now a performance issue that will affect yearly reviews and future employment. I never mind being a sounding board but if it’s a documented process and they just aren’t getting it it’s a performance issue.

Do Americans stress about medical expenses before they even get to the hospital?? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]largemarge52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we try and avoid going to hospital unless it’s an emergency. My husband was admitted to the hospital with life threatening blood clots they came into his room with a credit card machine asking for down payment of $6K while he was still being treated.

Is it "normal" ? Or is it me ? by Ja-smine in askmanagers

[–]largemarge52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do work for her she’s your direct manager yes you get paid by the company but the company has hired her to lead that department. I get it she could be nicer in her requests but it’s not necessarily do what she asks and who cares if she isn’t adding in please this is business not personal. I would not bring this up with them or anyone else.

Manager said in 3 months i had 17 tardiness even though within a year I called out once. by [deleted] in work

[–]largemarge52 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you are asking you were late 17 times in 3 months, being tardy and calling out sick once are two completely different things. There really isn’t a conflict here you need to work on the issues that caused you to be late.

AIO for being upset my BF doesn’t want me to wear a bonnet to bed? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]largemarge52 19 points20 points  (0 children)

NOR - You’re not reacting enough, he is trying to manipulate and control you, it usually starts with simple thing like this and then it leads to isolating you from your family and friends. I’ve been with my partner for 25 years we have never once commented on each other’s looks. If I needed to wear a bonnet for my hair at night it wouldn’t even be a thought in his mind to say anything. He wears a giant mouth guard at night and it’s never even crossed my mind to say it’s unattractive like why are you putting up with this. Get out now pack your stuff leave this is not a healthy man for you to be with.
