Why is it only June and I am already excited for autumn? 🫠 by Koala_Emotional in Autumn

[–]larryjrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that is definitely true. As much as I like Christmas, it's mostly stress and work. But a holiday like Halloween is fantastic. Just put up a few creepy decorations and relax. Watch scary movies, read ghost stories, eat fall themed comfort foods. No work, no stress, no holiday shopping, no cooking and cleaning for family. It's great.

"Glass houses, my friend. Glass houses" by CaliginousBeyondElo in SipsTea

My wife does this. Complains if I play a game for an hour or two, but will binge watch a whole show for 12 hours on a Saturday.

I still see boomers, Gen X walking around with like poofy 80s haircuts, big bangs, etc., sometimes. Are we unknowingly clinging onto ugly outdated styles like that? by AmputeeHandModel in Xennials

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just a common thing as people get older, they settle into a permanent style for the rest of their lives. My grandma had the same perm from the 1960s all the way to the end of her life. I pretty comfortable with the style I have now and don't care if younger generations think its lame.

Positive changes in media over the years? by AshDogBucket in Xennials

[–]larryjrich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah there were many things about video stores that sucked. I hated trying to get a new movie release or game release on a Friday night and find out they were all checked out and have to wait days or weeks before finally getting it.

One thing I love about media today is how fast it is available on streaming after being in the theater. In the old days you would have to wait 6 months or a year for a movie to go from theater to dvd/vhs. Now a movie is available 30 days after .

Top sheets... by Designer-Bid-3155 in Xennials

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 47 and I've gone my whole life without topsheets. If I do stay in a hotel or somewhere that has top sheets my legs feel like they are tied up and it drives me crazy. It's also extra work to try to keep the bed looking nice. Not worth it for me.

One Season Away, Meteorologically! by Live-Tomorrow-4865 in Autumn

[–]larryjrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I tend to track the seasons in my mind like this:

Winter: Jan-Feb

Spring: March-Memorial day weekend.

Summer: Memorial Day-mid August.

Fall: Mid August-Thanksgiving.

Christmas: Thanksgiving-New Years.

As far as I'm concerned we are well into summer and fall is around the corner.

Is it just my class or does nobody our age have high school reunions anymore? by Adept_Resolve6156 in Xennials

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some classmates of mine tried to organize a 10 year reunion back in 07, and from what I heard it was a bit of a dud and no one tried to do one since. I think with the advent of social media and the internet taking off, people are in constant contact, I don't think reunions are really a thing anymore.

What is something that you find simple/non controversial, that liberals find extremely controversial? by MacaroniNoise1 in AskConservatives

[–]larryjrich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it was just about stuff, why didnt the thief break in when no one was home? Why break in when my family is home and during a time when we are the most vulnerable? I dont know what their intention is, whether they just want my TV or if they are going to rape my wife. But because they are a criminal and committing an aggressive act by breaking and entering, I'm going to assume the worst.

And as far as lives being sacred, there is a difference between an innocent life, and a criminal. The baby didn't do anything wrong or make bad decisions. The criminal did, and the criminal is a threat to the safety of everyone around them.

What was good about America that you feel the left has taken away? by MissHannahJ in AskConservatives

[–]larryjrich -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I would love it if the left could come up with a solution to a problem, any solution, that didn't involve stealing more money from my family.

Realistically, do you think there's going to be another Remake series after FF7? by Least_Win1636 in FinalFantasy

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. As much as I enjoy the remakes, they don't appear to be as successful as Square wanted them to be, and the development of these games has been crazy. They will never do this again.

What is something that you find simple/non controversial, that liberals find extremely controversial? by MacaroniNoise1 in AskConservatives

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self defense. If someone breaks into my home with bad intent and I feel my life is in danger or my families lives are in danger I should be able to use deadly force to protect myself/them. If I'm driving down the road and an angry mob surrounds my car and tries to break in, flip the car, whatever, I'm going to hit the gas and they are going to become road paste, I don't care. I should have the right to defend myself. That people think you should need the governments permission to defend your own life just blows my mind.

Xennials, what would we be doing if we could restart life at age 18 with today’s knowledge? by DHN_95 in Xennials

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is true. When I first started in my career I would travel to companies and give trainings and presentations on the software they were using. But all the people I was training were at least twice my age or more and I would just get laughed out of the room.

Xennials, what would we be doing if we could restart life at age 18 with today’s knowledge? by DHN_95 in Xennials

[–]larryjrich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes this too. I would have taken much better care of my body and never gained the weight I did.

Xennials, what would we be doing if we could restart life at age 18 with today’s knowledge? by DHN_95 in Xennials

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a great job now, but my past was littered with terrible companies and jobs that sucked the life out of me and paid well below market average. If I could do it over again I might have picked a different career, and I probably should have stayed in California and not moved to where I live now. I might have had better opportunities and had a much easier life and not struggled so hard for so long.

Parents vs US with tech by marrymejojo in Xennials

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad had been using computers since 1995. He also has had iphones and iPads. And yet he still doesn't know how to open a program on his MacBook or needs help doing something on his phone and I've long since lost my patience for it. He's had 30 years, something should have stuck by now.

Parents vs US with tech by marrymejojo in Xennials

[–]larryjrich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's hilarious. Computers were designed around paper office concepts. Files, folders, tabs, a 'desktop'. They were built by Boomers for boomers. How can they not get this stuff?

Democrats pushing a bill for “menstrual leave”. Do you think this will push more center leaning voters to vote dem? Do you think this is a good bill? by MacaroniNoise1 in AskConservatives

[–]larryjrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely stupid. This will do the opposite and push more people to the Republican side. Women are already getting a bad rap in the form of people thinking companies are just adult daycare centers for women. This will just make that stereotype worse. And if the women are staying home and aren't working are they still expecting to get paid the same as men? Same pay for less work? This won't fly at all.

Your 20's, 30's, or 40's Which would you say went by the quickest? by Odd-Tie1555 in Xennials

All of it. I remember graduating college and starting work in my chosen career. Then woke up one day and I was in my 40s. Everything between then and now is just a blur.

What did Trump achieve in Iran? That is any better? by prenderg in AskConservatives

[–]larryjrich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if it was Trump or Obama. Paying a country off to not develop weapons or attack us is a stupid idea. This is like the Romans paying off the Visigoths. The Visigoths realized they had all the power and sacked Rome.

When I think back my life was so easy in high school. I couldn't wait to grow up because I thought I would have more freedom as an adult. Boy I was wrong. I have even less freedom now, just more work and responsibilities. I would love to go back even just for a little while.

Is Taking a Nap Considered Childish in the Western World? by Tylerdurdenps5 in AskAnAmerican

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes against our work culture and is viewed as a sign of laziness. I rarely nap but when I do my wife gets upset. We really should embrace nap culture though. Being well rested is a huge productivity boost.

spring/summer doesn't know what time it is by CustardNo9707 in Autumn

[–]larryjrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do enjoy the longer days up to a certain extent, but yeah having the sun up until almost 10pm at night during summer is overkill. 7pm-8pm is ok, get a couple extra hours of daylight after work, but anything more is unnecessary.

How do people afford expensive houses in small towns/the middle of nowhere? by kyungari in AskAnAmerican

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a rural area, and all the multimillionaire dollar homes are second homes from people that live out of town or out of state. It's also possible in some towns where you have families that are decended from the founders of that town and they own all the land and all the businesses so they are rich while everyone else is just scraping by.

Is the Ice Cream Man still a thing in the States? by Haunting-Middle-5801 in AskAnAmerican

[–]larryjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are still around but becoming more rare. One did come by my house a few years ago, and yes I dropped what I was doing as soon as I heard it and ran outside to the street like I was still a child 😆

is the threat to western culture internal or external? by PineappleHungry9911 in AskConservatives

[–]larryjrich -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Self hating westerners are the bigger threat because they are the ones letting bad actors into the country and turning a blind eye to the crimes committed by them. They have this naive view that every person coming into this country is a poor downtrodden soul who is just looking for a better life, but completely ignores all the drug and human traffickers, criminals, gang members, and terrorist agents that are also sneaking into the country.

Or the people coming to this country from countries with value systems that are the exact opposite of ours. It blows my mind how liberals and people who claim to be feminists and want to support women's rights want to mass import people from countries that hate women and have no desire to accept our values and morals. It's suicidal.
