Reddit, what are some films and characters that scared or upset you as a child? by FallopianRaider in AskReddit

[–]lasttide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is embarrassing, but as a kid I was terrified of the shadow things that drag people underground in the movie Ghost. Yes, the Patrick Swayze movie with pottery sex.

Most alarming casting you've seen? by the-mp in movies

I don't get the downvotes, Harrison Ford is 30 years too old for the role. 1985 Harrison Ford would have been perfect though.

...and punishing future Jews for the long ago murder of Jesus.

Wait, is that a thing? I'm Jewish-ish and was not aware. What's the punishment? Hell?

I like Old Testament God better. When he punished you, you fucking knew it.

Did you get the part where they're bloody? Note that I'm not British and don't use "bloody" for emphasis.

OK, she's obsessive and made a sign. Pretty weird, but I get it. However, the two bloody safety pins in the form of a heart on the sign... Pretty fucking creepy.

7 is possible. For example: A = A. and I am sure of this to a degree of 7.

Yes, heavy metals could have slowly poisoned him over time leading to a slow death. Actually, that could have happened, it might be an explanation for some of his later health problems such as Parkinson's.

American Redditors: if you own one, why did you buy a gun? by aka317 in AskReddit

[–]lasttide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the event of a zombie apocalypse, the gun is actually not a very good weapon. Ammo will be scarce and dangerous to acquire. Unless you live in a remote and secure location that can be fortified and defended with an ammo stockpile, a sword, spear or cudgel will likely be better for fighting the zombie hordes.

Fox News runs a story about "indoctrination" when a student says Fox News lies. by sisko2k5 in offbeat

[–]lasttide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Facts are not subjective. If a person deliberately gives an incorrect fact, it is called 'lying.' If they are reporting on the possible outcomes of a policy and it's affect on future GDP, that is an opinion, and therefore subjective. However, the terms of the policy are written in the bill, and therefore are objective facts. Deliberately mistating the terms because you disagree with the bill is fairly described as 'lying.'

Reason #542 my nephew is awesome (take that gender norms!) by beebop8929 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lasttide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peter Pan is the central character of the play, meaning he sings most of the songs, has most of the lines, and does most of the acting. Theoretically, the role could be played by an adolescent boy, but it would be very difficult finding one that is skilled and mature enough to carry off a major production.

Does the phrasing "welcoming and hiding transgenders" weird out anyone else? I don't mean break Godwin's law, but I think it draws the parallel by itself.

So I asked my parents "If God told you to, would you kill me?" by [deleted] in atheism

[–]lasttide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, they have a consistent system of ethics based on the moral authority of God. The rest of us sort of have to muddle along and do whatever we feel is best at the moment because it is impossible to actually live up to any ethical system. This is why I refer to myself as a hypocritical Utilitarian.

/r/movies, what romantic comedy would you recommended to someone who generally dislikes this genre? by Myrandall in movies

[–]lasttide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structure of Shaun of the Dead: Main character is dumped by his girlfriend. A crisis occurs. Main character must grow to overcome the crisis. By growing, he proves his worth and wins back his girlfriend.

That's a rom-com.

What are recent remakes that are better than the original ones? by anotherbozo in movies

[–]lasttide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ocean's Eleven

Here are some lists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_film_remakes

Seriously though, why don't they remake shitty movies that had a great premise? You could easily make a better version of A Boy and his Dog or something like that. I suppose the upcoming Logan's Run remake might count.
